It works for a while but then it breaks the page.
For sites with toggle-able gifs, it works once but when toggled it stops working.
One thing that bugs be about this addon can be explained by an example: I'm in college, and I use a website called OWL for my online chemistry homework. However, when the addon is enabled, certain (static) images that the site uses (like chemical reaction arrows) appear out of place, having loaded after the rest of the page. When I disable it, the problem goes away, but this has become annoying, having to essentially turn it off and on like that. My point: can you update the addon or add a menu option or something that can prevent it from delaying static, one-frame GIF images?
Until it is loaded the GIF starts playing, so no more need to start again in order to see it. You could install this animation to improve gif playing https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/toggle-animated-gifs/
It addition, I got some memory issues with the addon.
I noticed when testing in peacekeeper y sunspider it would take way to long doing those tests even though it did not affect the results and amazon would be very slow and reload way to many times. A loading in the jquery library and request to stop the script made me notice it. After removing the addon everything worked as it should and many websites loaded a little bit faster.
I will install it again when this is fixed.
this addons messes up some websites like my bank websites(i dont know why) when i enable this addon i get logged out of website and i tested this with only this addon installed.
this is bad. i have to disable this addon and remove it maybe.
It is great to have this extension, since Firefox bizarrely decided they WANT it the other way (see bug nos. 522741 & 899861). On a small and minor note, I would love to see the "yer" fixed, though.
Doesn't work all the time, some 10-20% of GIFs still load normally and are not delayed. Also, please use proper English, not schoolboy slang.
When the gif finally loads, the gif is already partway through. I don’t see the beginning until it loops.
Excellent, excellent. Combined with Toggle Animated Gifs (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/toggle-animated-gifs/) this makes browsing pages with large amounts animated images possible again for netbook users or older systems.
First ever review by me, so y'all know this one fills a niche. ;)
For 5 stars, it needs more:
1. A same-sized placeholder for all of the gifs that are not loaded yet. This should be inserted as early as possible in the rendering of the page by the browser (before starting to download the first animated gif).
This prevents the layout from being bounced... and stops impatient people like me clicking a link or item on the page and having the browser shove something else entirely under my mouse pointer just as I click.
2. More info could be supplied about the loading of the content in the placeholder (or a tooltip, if need be).
By this I mean simple text displaying
- the file size in kB, optionally color it green/yellow/red for tiny/medium/1MB+ gifs
- the total amount of frames in the animation to be loaded.
- its download progress in %...
- ...or at least some visual indication that the space contains a file which is loading queued to be loaded by Firefox.
3. I would also like to see some toolbar or tooltip or mousover popout display of the total amount of gif animations on the current page and how many of them have been downloaded. Like: "20/45 loaded, 800kb remaining)".
As it is now, this specialized add-on (it does one thing very well) is IMHO best realized as an integrated part of another addon with broader functionality (like the one linked above). This reduces clutter in the add-on manager, among other advantages.
Alternatively, adding additional functionality to Gif Delayer (like for example my suggestions above) will make this addon stand on its own as a must-have extension that is not just for niche use.
Lacks an exception for small-weight gifs. Add this please.
Great addon, but i am not seeing any progress loader for some reason, which is slightly annoying.
Cured me of my aversion to jerky .gifs! This should have existed ten years ago. I created an account solely to review this add on. Download it now!
really works, thanks!
Thanks! Now I can watch the gifs without interruption. =D
