I have no advertisements and my pages are loading so fast once again! I gave a small donation and thank you and your talented developers for the wonderful work you've done. Thank you so much from Ubuntu Land :)
So I used Facebook Disconnect and Google Disconnect before you released the new Disconnect addon.
I am wondering why does the Goolge disonnect block captchas and Youtube videos where as the new one does not? It seems as if the old one discriminates more against what it blocks. Not always in a good way, though.
I am assuming the newer version is superior and I do not need to be running all three addons, but just the new Disconnect?
And why does the old one block all that stuff and the new one doesn't seem to? Is that intentional?
With our new Disconnect private browsing extension you do not need to use our older Google, Facebook, and Twitter Disconnect extensions as their protection is included in the new extension. Our developers worked hard to help streamline this new extension to ensure you are protected from trackers and social widgets while keeping the interference with websites to a minimum.
Google detected the author's website activity, they try to redirect searches but their method doesn't work anymore, & captcha's are returning again. The best method wouldn't be to redirect searches, but to auto renew responsible cookies without affecting gmail. renewing cookies is the only way to prevent googles idiotic attempts to block searches & assume everyone who clicks a bit faster to obtain different results is a robot or the stupid allowed searches per ip. google's becoming paranoid & stupider than ever anyways.
cookies must be renewed & if googles coders become stupider with time, & try to disable searches per ip excluding cookie's ids, it will be time to move to other search engines that collect googles infos too.
Thank you for taking the time to give this feedback on our extension. We really appreciate it! Google Disconnect is one of of our older extensions, and you may want to try our newer Disconnect private browsing extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/disconnect/
This extension takes the protection of Google Disconnect and expands on it, blocking over 2000 trackers and suspected malware sites.
Recently this app started blocking Google's ReCaptcha.
I first noticed this today.
Hi, I've been using this great addon for several months, very happy with it (even though it could be improved by letting choose which requests to unblock), but since a recent upgrade (Firefox 45 on Fedora 23/64 I think), I can't see the button/icon anymore. Any clue ?
Thank you for letting us know about this! Google Disconnect is one of our older extensions, and we have a new extension that combines the protection offered by the Google, Twitter, and Facebook Disconnect extensions into one and expands on it. If you'd like to check it out, you can find it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/disconnect/
It does a good job, but the options for unblocking aren't flexible: 1) you get the option to unblock but you can't see what they are before they are unblocked. 2) you can't automatically unblock some some requests forever, which I'd like to do for ReCaptcha forms (which I never see by default).
Thank you for sending us your feedback! We are looking into adding the ability to universally change blocking defaults on our newer add-on which incorporates Google Disconnect's blocking protection into it.
Is it possible to change the youtube blocking only, so that youtube videos are shown on any page? Maybe through about:config page? I really like this plugin but I'd like to know if there is or could be such an option available.
Thank you for the suggestion! This is one of our older extensions, so you might want to look into our Disconnect Private Browsing extension that lets you unblock individual trackers: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/disconnect/
Like lymphoma, Google metastasizes across the World Wide Web into businesses, homes, phones, appliances, etc. – And happily facilitated by the useful idiots. For example: Keeping within the "Dumbing down of America" guidelines, ‘web developers’ no longer need to write or even understand Java – Let a Google server service handle Java for you! Google Disconnect is proof positive of how well Google invades one’s life under the guise of simplicity on the back of immediate gratification. Unfortunately for Google Disconnect, it might work too well, as more people and companies trade freedom for laziness.
Please include on the Main Bar of browser "An Icon Button" that users can use to turn this add-on OFF and back ON again when I need to see what's blocked. It is troublesome to have to go into the Firefox extensions page to disable and restart the browser to see Whats Been Blocked. Needs to have more control then current configuration, which is to just block ALL or NOTHING. I look forward to your update. Developer thank you for your time to make this add-on.
Captchas by Google are not displayed, either.
Couldn't it be possible to differenciate a little more?
And... if not... what does this addon makes sense after all - because when I want to "use" those pages I need to hit "unblock xyz google requests" without being able to say "this one yes, this one no". So I want to make the page usable, but my usage not trackable more then necessary.
This is a "all or nothing"-tool.
Please add a addon bar/bookmark bar button icon that I can use to turn this off when I need to see a video. That would take it from 3 to 5 stars. Its a pain to have to go into the Addon page to disable and restart to see a damn video.
Not sure what everyone's problem is. It blocks google. Google provide youtube, google maps & ReCaptcha, so it blocks those. You click the red urlbar icon, hit F5 to reload and voila, disabled on that page, couldn't be easier. Yes, if you filled out an entire page of form and then it's lost because you got to the ReCaptcha it's a really annoying, and if you're making a financial transaction it may be best to disable it (not as bad as NoScript blocking payment gateways) but it couldn't be easier to unblock it temporarily. Something like DoNotTrackMe might be more suitable if your choice between privacy and convenience is different.
I quite often have to disable this tool to make sure the ReCAPTCHAS provided by Google and used on many web pages to make sure you are human are not visible. It would be nice if there were an option that the ReCAPTCHA embeddings are not blocked.

After uninstalling (properly, and according to all instructions) disconnect, it still operates as if still installed, yet it does NOT show up as an Addon in Addons of Firefox.
FireFox is v33.1.1
Disconnect AddOn for FF is v2.4.2
Also, since May of 2013, the addon STILL blanks Google Maps and ALL EMBEDED YouTube videos - that's just stupid.
it misses a usefull option,
we should have the possibility to chose wich request we want to block or unblock.
and infos about it to chose.
Else it works fine.
Works almost too well. A wake up call to those of you who do not realise how much Google spies on you, even on sites that have nothing to do with them.
Yes it blocks lots of ReCaptchas etc as many are provided by Google (nice way for Google to track you on sites they have nothing to do with)
Easily disabled on a site by clicking the red button.
You can't have it both ways - either you are happy for the Big G to track your every move, or accept some inconvenience by chopping off their creepy tentacles. I go for the latter.
I also have Facebook and Twitter disconnect too. Excellent tools. Should all be installed by default on every browser IMHO.
Does not do a good job. Blocks too much. Flash gets deactivated with no option to un-block. Do not see RE-CAPTCHA images and have to use other browsers for that. YouTube videos are blocked by default. I thought this would let me view the web as it is while protecting my privacy -- instead of blocking me from seeing any content.
in using a favorite homepage site of mine (all my faves) with this addon, and after signing in, under all nine tabs which i had set up, there is nothing but a blank white page-absolutely no clickon icons are displayed, though each tab does.
Appreciate the thought that went into this extension, but it renders browsing useless on most sites. I was wondering why images like CAPTCHA and other media weren't showing up. This extension is blocking Flash without an option to activate it. It would be great if a version of this extension could come out that still let you view CAPTCHAs and fill out forms.
What? Google tracked me all the way? Thank you for opening my eyes!
Great Extension, Simple, easy and working,
I love that it blocks the mess that Ghostery, Google Privacy, Disconnect, DoNotTrackMe, Social Privacy Protector, and TrackMeNot doesn't catch from Google but ReCAPTCHA is something that is necessary for many sites to work.
