Firefox 4?

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I have a love/hate relationship with this addon. At the moment, I hate it.
In an ideal world I'd see twitter and facebook statuses running happily side by side across the status bar. I would be able to update both with shorterned urls. But, for the second time in the past few months, it has lost Twitter making it completely redundant.
Don't bother updating the support forums. The assistance from the Friendbar developers is non-existent!
It's sad that I feel I have to give bad review as I'd recommend 100% if it worked.

its nice!

Hangs between "alright" and "unusable" Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This add on constantly surfs the line of being alright and almost unusable. The updating it does, which you can't turn off, causes all sorts of issues from time to time, the most common being a full freeze of Firefox(resulting in your having to manually kill the process). It adds to Firefox's already-unbelievable ram usage and just recently it lost Twitter. People ask about it on the official forums, but the devs don't seem to care. Granted, it's a free add on and they have every right to blatantly ignore its diminishing functionality, but for all the hype they dish out on it you'd expect more. Still, I will say that it is useful for those who link to add urls in to their tweets as it has a Tinyurl-maker built in to it. ..or did, I guess I should say.

I agree with rwmtiger and then some. I am someone who is working all the time so I love the idea of being able to both work and chat at the same time, but this addon needs those modifications to become really useful for me. I'll give a four for effort.

I really like the idea. Having my twitter and facebook feeds right there in the browser without having to remember to go to a separate webpage is great, and I love being able to post to multiple accounts (eg. facebook and twitter) at the same time.

However, as has been previously mentioned, the toolbar doesn't match the rest of the browser. It would be nice to have transparency or for it to use the same style classes as the rest of the browser so it matches, especially when you've gone to the trouble of customising how Firefox looks elsewhere.

I also found Friendbar can be a resource hog, making Firefox freeze up for a second when it's bringing up the latest update. This can be annoying when you're in the middle of typing a sentence or clicking on something, only to lose half of what you've typed or click on the wrong thing.

Sadly for me, Friendbar just isn't the appropriate add-on. I need something that will manage more than just the single twitter and facebook accounts, and I found the glitching just cut too much into my browsing experience. It has a lot of promise, though.

Not bad but a lot to improve. When I send a post it keeps on the text bar in load, though already sent and then I cannot see anything else. The feed cannot be monitored and actually keeps flashing which becomes eventually annoying. I have to say application has ugly display and looks cheap. It is the only apps where U can monitor Twitter and FB @ once which makes it attractive so there is a real good point. It could be less flashy (the FB bar is actually the best, just need a twitter extension)...
Sometimes needs to re-send the login data cos it keeps logging out (on FB only). The big Friendbar on the leften side is useless:why do I need apps advertising on my PC? We´d win some space by taking it out.

The idea is nice, but the interface is kind of ugly; it doesn't match the rest of Firefox's appearance. I found the constant cycling of status updates to be distracting; I'd prefer something that only changed when there were new updates. On top of that, the custom popup dialogs for configuration did not play nicely with my tiling windows (stumpwm on Linux).

You can!

Hi - if you go to settings on Friendbar, you can select "Show Newest Update Only"!
Thanks for the feedback on Linux - we'll check it out.

I love Friendbar. I've been using it on my Mac and my PC since v2, and I recommend it to all my Friends. Best way to use Twitter and Facebook from Firefox, hands down.

Great but what about my hidden friends? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I will probably look for another facebook addon if I continue to get updates from people that I've hidden in facebook originally... otherwise it's a great little program!

Not bad ... Rated 2 out of 5 stars

... but why does it insist on changing my homepage? Without notification/option, too. I'm using your add-on, but don't assume I want anything else from your site/company, okay?

Will make clearer

Thanks for the feedback! We actually do show a popup window with a checkbox, however we will try and make it clearer.
