Great Addon Works Fine. Using Frequently Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a very good addon for me. I usually used to replace lot of words in my wordpress blog posts and editing css of various codes on the fly. Great functionality and very good addon 5 Stars.

great add-on but it does not work for me Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The replace option wors as i can edit the lines in the form with the desired updates. However, when i click on "apply" or "save", the updates are not kept so whatever i edit with the add-on is not retained.
If i manually update the form, the changes are being applied.

Could you please help me on this?

Great add-on Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works as advertised, and I'm very happy with it.
The only feature I sorely miss is "Undo" action, ( I see is on the wish list ), otherwise an excellent add-on - 5 Stars.
Thanks to the developer.

Did not work for me Rated 1 out of 5 stars

1. shift+f2 is taken by another firefox function.
2. turkish translation is apparently made by a machine (probably google translate). I hardly understood what the menus and the help file tried to tell.
3. the only thing that worked was he FoxReplace settings and it was really too hard to understand from the bad ranslation which settings that part was supposed to change (looked like something about urls)

Please remove machine-translated languages from the list of supported languages. At least you'll make it possible for english speakers to uderstand the extension better.

1. In the latest version FoxReplace uses F8 and Shift+F8 because of this. Although now in Firefox 20 Shift+F2 is free again.
2. The translations are suposedly made by humans. I will contact the Turkish translator and notify him of this, and disable that translation in the next version if it's not fixed.

You must change Shift + F8 with F2 only Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hi,

You've changed a lot in 0.14 version, but something is very wrong:
Please change back the way you apply "replace with substitution list" with F2 as it was in the older versions.

Regards,

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.14.0.1-signed).

Hi, Shift+F2 was taken by the developer bar in Firefox, and since thought using F2 and F8 or Shift+F8 would be inconsistent, I decided to change both shortcuts to use F8. At the same time I changed to use the Shift combination to apply the substitution list and and F8 alone to show the replace bar because applying the substitution list can change the page and so it should be harder to hit by accident (it happened to me sometimes with F2 at Google Docs).

But if you want to change the shortcuts there's an extension that allows you to change any shortcut. It's this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/customizable-shortcuts/

Cleaning up and editing substandard code is a tedious chore, and my job is to QA hundreds of sites, day in, day out. As such, I was delighted to find FoxReplace, which replaces boredom with speed.

Very useful, incremental replace would greatly help Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I use this plugin to replace part of text in web based editors (such as etherpad, or yahoo mail). In some editors, such as google docs, the replace action is not detected by the editor. The undo works fine. The replace also works if there are multiple input fields (e.g. yahoo mail)

I'm mostly lacking the partial substitution. It might be difficult to implement because it would require user interaction, and may require to scroll the text. A useful alternative could be to replace only within the current text selection. Combined with the built-in search feature and "highlight all", this could be a good compromise to get the incremental replace feature.

Many thanks anyway for this very useful plugin!

Exactly What I Needed Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've been looking for something like this for ages, greasemonkey scripts just don't have the ease of use that this extension has and it's so useful... Combine this with an app such as Firebug to read the code in a site and your able to do almost anything to a page or site.

This app is so easy to use I picked it up in minutes :)

Note... The only negative comments I have is that in this version you can't duplicate lines without exporting to a .json file and editing it manually and it's a little slow to have to keep hitting edit on each line if your changing 20+ lines (my 1st script had 800 lines lol).

Overall one of "The Best" extensions I've seen in some time :)

As mentioned in previous comments, works perfectly if you have to replace entries in the complete text. However, I want to replace entries only in the selected text. Do let me know if I'm missing something that's already in place.

No More Boffins Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The Register likes to use the colloquialism "boffins" instead of "scientists". With this addon I can finally rid myself of that annoying word!

Dangerous! Somewhat... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The plugin has a nice interface and great options, if it only did the job. I need to replace a repetitive word in some 250+ Youtube video descriptions. I entered the rule and checked it to be applied on page load.
The I clicked to edit the description, the plugin replaced the text.
When I checked the video page, the text was also replaced. However, as soon as I disabled the plugin - the text was back to the original.
That means, at least for youtube, the plugin just changes the display of text in your own browser, but doesn't fill the form.
And that is very dangerous, because you may be sure that you've changed everything while in fact, you didn't.
The potential is great, but while the plugin just censors some text for your eyes only, it's useless.
And one more thing. On plugin removal the extensions.foxreplace.substitutionListJSON is still in the config, so the rules are all back if you reinstall the plugin. I don't know if it's a bug or a feature,

PS: MarcRA, thank you for replying so fast. To enable Save in Youtube you must fiddle with the text. After the replace is done, I made some other alterations and click save. The plugin-replaced text doesn't save in the form. The danger lies in that your browser shows an illusion, and other people see the real thing.
However, I found a work-around by switching to the mobile version of the site. And this time, the plugin works! So I guess it's the way how desktop Youtube site treats text input that's yet to be implemented in the plugin. Anyway, the workaround should still save a lot of effort, so thank you so much for the plugin.

Did you click the "save" button after editing the form? If you didn't, then of course it didn't do any permanent change. If you did, then it may be a bug and you should report it at https://code.google.com/p/foxreplace/issues/list .

On the other hand, I don't see how this can be "dangerous".

PS: OK, I'm happy you could find a workaround. I'll take note on this problem to see if it can be solved.

Problem with Xanga Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This is excellent ... If it worked on all sites.

I tried replacing "abcdefgh" and "abcdefgh" at an HTML level to ensure nothing was modified on the page and my Xanga page loads differently when it replaces. The images and ad window do not not appear.

And since there is no HTML command of abcdefgh, nothing should be different at all. I am presuming you are using a different HTML viewer than the default Firefox one ?

Try as I explained here:
http://dw817.xanga.com/763293875/home/

Any chance of you getting it to work with Xanga ? Really would appreciate that. Seems to work all other sites so nice job on that !

This add-on saved my life! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I used drupal on a site, and it had a ton of terms like TermName-suffix (where the suffix is the same all over). I had to edit them all to remove the "suffix", and there was no simple way to do this. I went into phpMyAdmin, searched for the "suffix" in the term table. Then I checked all results and clicked "edit". Then I installed this addon, and replaced all "suffix" on page with "blank space" - BAM! my work is done! I just had to click save and move on...

Granted I could have probably written and SQL query, but I hate wrestling with queries when on a deadline...

Useful, but could be improved Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It took me only a short time to figure out how FoxReplace works. It definitely made my work easier for one job that I was doing. Here are my suggestions to make it more useful. (1) Have an option to make replacements in the same capitalization as the word being replaced. (2) Have an option to replace the text in input fields only (or perhaps they're called form fields?). (3) The search/replace bar would be greatly enhanced if there could be more than one, even if the multiple bars take up window space. However, this add-on, as presently written, is better than nothing. Good work.
