Variable replacement Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Can this extension use text from one part of the page (set as a variable) to replace text from another part.
Not just a predefined "I want to replace [apple] with [orange]"

i.e.
I have this text www.yourdmain.com/files/1_12543.jpg
and I want to grab the "12543" part (actually whatever is between "1_" and ".jpg") as a variable and use it in some other replacement string.

Can I do this now? or is this beyond this extension?
If not, can you add this feature?

Re: Variable replacement

What you want to do is beyond this extension. You can use "variables" with regular expressions but only can use them in the same substitution.

I will study if it is a good feature to add or if it is outside of the scope of the extension

I love the idea and find it very useful but it is hogging my (QX9650!) CPU like crazy. Web pages scroll slowly, takes ages to switch tabs etc.

Probably another cause

It can't be because of my extension because I use it in my very old Pentium 4 without any problem.

3.5 Compatible? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Is this addon compatible with 3.5. I use this addon for a online job and do not want to update and lose it. Thanks

Yes, 3.5 compatible

Yes, I updated the compatibility up to 3.5.

This is a great add-on. I've been looking for a solution for ages to replace annoying and superfluous signatures on a message board I frequent. This has allowed me to no longer get irritated at certain users, but actually giggle everytime I see it.

FoxReplace is a great add-on, I've used it for language study while I surf the web.

If its useful to anyone, I have made a small web app that converts Google spreadsheets into FoxReplace XML files. Since I use regular expressions extensively in my use of FoxReplace, managing a large list can be unwieldy, which is why I turned to this solution. The URL is http://elliottandlara.com/babelfox/.

However, I was hoping Marc would consider giving the option of importing an online XML file? That way I wouldn't have to continually import substitution sets; I could just alter my online version, and then the changes would be immediately reflected in my FoxReplace. And that would even allow for sharing my list with others...sort of like how AdBlock's subscription system (in my understanding) does right now.

This at all possible for next version? ;)

A Blessing when I had to replace multiple tags on a MySQL project.

Great tool if you want to replace 'all' the exact same text, however a improvement would be a "Replace All" button or "Replace" to sort between those you do and those you don't.

Use a regular expression

You can use a regular expression like this:

Switch type to regular expression
Replace: \[mark=".*"\]
With: [mark]

This add-on is in particular very usefull when you have a webinterface in one language and when you have to provide the same interface in an other language. Great tool!!

Very useful Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very nice - good to shorten page titles for tabs.
One small limitation: it won't add a space after the replace text.
It would be nice to edit a page title without slowly searching the whole very long page.
Hopefully tracemonkey will speed this up.

This is pretty cool
however, It replaces the entire page, wouldn't it be better if you could add a feature to move the next one like notepad does.
Example: Find what/Replace with/find Next/Replace/Replace All

Also, a implemented feature to replace only text within a textbox would be great.
