This a great but potentially dangerous add-on as I'm sure other people wouldn't take too kindly to you "misreading" what they actually typed xD Aside from that, it's awesome; thanks!
I love this addon because i can censor many word that i don't like. But since the 0.17.2 update, some words in mobile version of facebook website and in texbox remain uncensored and it's not good. So please fix them so I can surf without any bad words
So nice to be able to get rid of things like 'Just Sayin', changing things like 'totes' to 'totally', 'sorry not sorry' to 'sorry', and best of all goofy personalizations like.. changing 'Walmart' to 'The Zoo'. Awesome addon.
Just a thought.. this could be the end to the box stores providing price matching services... None the less... Super app! Don't believe anyone else has done this on the mobile platforms as of yet.
Thumbs up to the dev.
I see a lot of comments touting practical uses for this add-on, but it has some santiy-restoring humorous applications, too. Give all your least favorite politicians snarky nicknames! It makes reading the news a little more entertaining.
I've been using FoxReplace for about three years to correct common spelling errors, replace American spellings with British ones and hide racist slurs. It's one of my favourite extensions for Firefox.
It's generally worked well for me, though most recently I've seen the extension correct some instances of a word on a page and not others. I had to re-run the filter in order to have the words displayed properly.
There's also the issue that the filter doesn't seem to run on dynamic pages after the initial content has been loaded. The same applies to side-loaded content that's being embedded from another site; I'll still see the errors/unwanted variants/slurs even with the filter applied.
I was about to start smashing keyboards over ambiguous date formats, but this plugin let me change all dates to the proper format so I could calm down and let my blood pressure return to normal (quite literally).
As a Canadian I encounter dates in both d/m/Y format as well as m/d/Y so you never really know and it is incredibly frustrating.
With this tool I can figure out what the date format is for a particular website and set it to automatically correct the date to the proper, unambiguous Y-m-d format eliminating all confusion once and for all. I am finally at peace.
Thank you FoxReplace!!
I love this add-on. It's made the political primary season a lot more entertaining (reading about how Trump/Sauron won the nomination of the Death Eater Party, to the consternation of Elven and Dwarven Lords).
I'd love to have a little more functionality in the RegEx though. Specifically, being able to use lookbehind would be helpful (especially since this flavor already supports lookahead). Also, being able to use back-references (like incorporating parts of the matched text in the replacement) would be really useful (and could also replace the lookbehind feature...whichever is easier to implement).
But it does, it's awesome.
When I first installed this, it worked pretty well. But recently, filtered words are beginning to slip through. A certain word starting with "f" started showing up, and wouldn't go away until I set up two separate entries for it. Also of not is that words that pop up on Google Images when an image is clicked used to be filtered, but now they're not for some reason. It's like FoxReplace is slowly deteriorating.
I want to thank you for this amazing app. It is indeed pretty good. However, it may be perfect with a minor update. Just add an option to auto-replace after webpage loading (after it is totally loaded)
Option "Auto-replace on page load" doesn't always works well on some pages due to slow loading or action of some scripts which take some time after the loading. For these you may use the "Auto-replace every 'x' seconds". However it is so annoying having it working on the webpage for every 'x' seconds, and while it may be useful in some cases, it is not if the webpage is static. So for this I would add an option to do the replacing just once after you make sure the webpage is loaded (e.g., 'y' seconds after loading or just whatever the user wants).
It will be a 5-star app after this update.
This app is amazing and simple - once you figure out how to use it. I agree that it isn't quite straightforward. It takes some playing around to get to define what you want it to do.
However, the app doesn't work too flawlessly with Facebook. Since the site loads new info constantly, a simple "Auto-replace on page load" does not cover the incoming text from scrolling down to load new stories. Selecting "Auto-replace every X seconds" fixes this... but the issue with backwards writing is still present. Not sure if a new release was issued since this was addressed in Feb 2016 (I installed this on my new computer around May 1st), but just wanted to let you know the issue is still here.
I want to stop seeing two or three particular words on the internet. Not hard, you would think.
This is supposed to be able to do that.
But it is utterly incomprehensible.
I have no idea what a "substitution list" is or what "strings" are. Nor - working for myself 24x7 - do I have the time to puzzle it all out.
There is no meaningful help. F8 does nothing. It is just a complete waste of time unless you are a geek. And I am not.
Why cant someone just write a nice simple app that allows me to 'Enter word you dont want to see any more = xxx'. And that is that.
I have deleted this app. A waste of time. Geek speak.
I solved a big problem with it, congratulations to the developers.
great addon to replace bad words, but i would like to see next changes:
1. Please add site exception list and substitutions exception list.
2. Also If this addon enabled (Rb mouse click - Replace With) - youtube not play video!
3. Also please add optional flag for rules (for "FoxReplaceOptions") like "auto-replace is on"
For Russian lang you can use my mini "antimat" substitition export: http://myfolder.ru/files/44932911
Для блокирования мата, вы можете импортировать мини словарь мата http://myfolder.ru/files/44932911
This is done since many years ago. Add the URLs where you want to apply substitutions and add them with a - to exclude them, e.g. add -example.com to exclude example.com.
It solved a big problem for me. Please, if possible, put an option to highlight text changed, it would be awsome! Thanks
I've been SO sick of seeing all the stupid crap about sucking my dick, and really wanted a solution to my problem. This solved it. I was able to change "sucking my dick" to "sucking my dick" and instead of rage, I now crack up every time I see something about it. I also replaced "Micro$oft Faggots" with "those micro$oft douchebags". I have to tell you, it really is satisfying as all hell. Thank you for giving me a solution for this problem. Believe it or not, this whole Win 10 thing is making me crazy, and even this little thing will make an impact on my stress. :) Thanks! Works great. A little lag, but as to be expected. Could be a lot of fun to use for multiple things, but for now this is all I really needed.
P.S. I can't believe that guy is actually leaving a stupid review about spamming the right click menu. There's only ONE entry there for it, and it's useful. Stop whining.
Also, who the hell is complaining about no documentation? Seriously? This couldn't be easier to use, it doesn't require reading. You would have to be beyond stupid not to understand it by just looking at it & using common sense. It's very intuitive & simple. I'm pretty sure you would have to be illiterate not to understand the basics of using this. Here's a suggestion; just try doing something! See what works. It's not hard to do. It'd take just as much time as you took to write the stupid bad review.
This works beautifully until you try to make a comment on YouTube or post on Twitter. It causes the insertion point to move around weirdly and is quite frustrating (happens on Windows and Arch Linux).
As I said to another reviewer, this only happens if you enable the replace every n seconds option and have some substitution defined for YouTube or Twitter. It will be fixed in the next release, but you can disable that option meanwhile, or don't define substitutions for those sites.
Hi, this is working great for replacing Drumpfs for me, too—except for the comments sections in places like YouTube.
Is there a settings choice to fix this??? Thanks!
Update: Thanks for the quick response :)
Now comment words are replaced for me, too. The world just got so much nicer/better looking. Great job!
There is the replace every n seconds option, but it has the bug commented by others.
I am liking it so far.
I had issues with it typing backward on Facebook. To fix:
In options, add a New filter with 'Match Case'
After creating filter, Enable
Check 'Auto Replace on Page Load' and 'Replace URLs'
DON'T select 'Auto Replace every X seconds'.
It will be an issue on auto update feeds, but it is still great.!
All the stars.
This add on makes messaging in Facebook type in backwards.
Example: If I tried to type "Hi, how are you?" It would type out as: "?you are how Hi,"
In other words after each completed word is typed, the cursor moves back to the home position.
Otherwise - this extension worked great - for replacing Trump with Drumpf.
This only happens if you enable the replace every n seconds option and have some substitution defined for Facebook or for everywhere.
But the good news is that it will be fixed in the next release.
I didn't know something like this existed and it does what I want. However, it adds horrible and long entries to the right click context menus of Firefox! I really don't want them. Provide an option to remove them. This way, I'm looking for a "replacement" to this add-on, one that doesn't spam my right click menus.
would love it if I can choose "inputs only" for form element changes.
I am happy if it can support Autopagerize.
I use it very often, this should be in FF by default
