  • The old version (1.4) was much better!
This new (2.0) seems to be heavier + missing that good advanced search + "delete all with same value/name" ready on right click... The old one was not saving the "message field text" and it was good! In this one I've found full mail conversations, google translate field etc etc... Pity!

PS: just found the 1.4 ver here that works on FF 56!

5 stars to this one!!! ;)

    Developer response

Almost a complete rewrite of the original code base is necessary to migrate to the WebExtension based version. The most important bits are now done and I am currently working on the remaining features to make it as awesome as it was before, so please be patient because it is a ton of work.
  • Love it when it works. However, today I lost all data and it's not saving new entries. Haven't changed anything. Don't know what I need to do.

    Developer response

Do you use cleaning or optimizing software? They can be the cause. Also downgrading your firefox profile can cause data corruption. Please checkout the FAQ and Known Issues on the Help pages of this add-on.
  • Quite possibly, the best add-on available to mankind!!!!!!
'He's a madman!.....', 'He's drunk!...', you might be thinking???
I'm not going to deny either....... neither are illegal, in most places...... anyway, Form History Control (+ some kind of clipboard app) are the first additions to any browser I'm going to use, I wouldn't feel safe without it!!!! These very words, for example, the potential dangers that are out there, itching to wipe every last letter out, beyond rescue, never to be heard of again.......
They're everywhere, these 'text-takers', I suffered horrible losses, painful, heartbreaking losses that a lesser man may not have got past.......
This was all before I found out about FHC, + just in time it was, too, I was probably one textual tragedy away from really getting angry......... + you wouldn't like me when I'm angry............
There's a fair chance, you wouldn't like me when I'm happy as Larry + at one with Mother Earth........ let's just say I was tired of something happening that wound up with what I'd been writing, disappearing + staying that way.
That crushing loss is a thing of the past, the psychotic rage, that would often accompany it, is gone, too, for the most part........ It's true to say, FHC can improve your health + all around sense of well-being........ more controversially, it makes you more intelligent, better looking + more attractive to women...... It did for me, anyway, perhaps I was just lucky?...?.... but that's how it was, I kid you not!
It works, + it even tells you how to go about using it, a 'user guide' type vibe is provided which as ridiculous as though it might sound, that's often not the case..... Add-ons that work, as well as try to ensure you'll be able to use them, go a long way to earning my love + admiration, neither of which I dish out like confetti.........
Form History Control rocks + it rocks hard, if you've not got it on board already, then get a grip of yourself, pull yourself together, + go + do something about it!
It does a bunch of stuff I've not even touched upon so you'll have to look into that yourself, I'm not going to do it all for you........ you're not on your Dad's yacht........

    Developer response

    Wow! and amen to that,
    you just made my day!!
  • This is a lifesaver, thanks a lot! you did reach perfection with this addon.
  • Thanks for the 2.1.0.1. Looks like it takes care of everything I was asking for in previous review. Not sure how to blacklist certain fields, but will look further into the documentation.

EDIT: actually, not seeing how to blacklist a field. Don't want text saved. Have entered both "message" and "textarea" in the field blacklist area, and hit Apply, but neither removes saved item.

    Please see

UPDATE: SOLVED, blacklisting a field area doesn't remove an existing entry, only future ones of the same type.

  • First of thanks for keeping it updated, I'm a long time user. I have a few nitpicks that haven't been addressed in the latest version: The small pop-up clips too much information and I never use it, could you make it re-sizable? Could you add hot keys? One last thing, will advanced search ever make a return?

    Developer response

There are size limitations set by the browser for small popups. If you want to see more information use the bigger and resizable dialog (right mouseclick, first option).
User definable shortcut keys are on my todo list, the possibility for this was made available to add-ons recently.
  • This is one of the essential add-ons on any Firefox. At work, I have to use Windows Vista, so I'm stuck with Firefox 52 ESR, but luckily, version 1.4 works wonderfully there! Recently, I noticed it works somewhat better than on the Firefox Quantum at home: I cannot edit password field entries with version 2.0! I know the field names, I know the data there are in them, but they simply don't show up on listing or searching. I wonder if that's a Firefox Quantum limitation (for improving security, that ends up opening a security hole, because I cannot delete those fields' data).

    Developer response

Password fields are not stored by this add-on, that is by design. Firefox itself however will save this data (if you chose to do so), but will do that in protected storage. The Form History Control (or any other extension) has no access to that internal storage of Firefox.
  • Looking forward for a sync across devices.

    Developer response

Syncing settings using the standard synchronization mechanism would be no problem but syncing data (form history) would be impossible because of the 100KB size limit.
  • fantastic
  • Would be nice if I could disable "remembering" certain field types or sites. Otherwise, a great replacement for lazarus :)

    Developer response

It is being developed and will be available in the next release.

[update 25 aug] It is available in release 2.1.0.0
  • Just works fine on different sites.
  • I love how this can help me save my work when I'm typing directly into text fields! This extension is a must.
  • This add-on is a life saver when a site borks and removes the text you've drafted, or reloads for no apparent reason, or just decides to log you out. Couldn't live without it.
  • Just the thing for tax forms that might take days to complete but say:

    "One-time submission

The online FBAR form does not allow you to save your progress during
form completion as it is designed to benefit filers who are ready to
file the FBAR today. If you have gathered all information needed to
complete and submit the FBAR in a one-sitting, then the online form
    might be right for you."
  • Finally found something that replaces Lazarus completely for me. Textarea Cache didn't have dropdown list history, this one does.
  • the developer spent many hours to bring the addon back to life and make it compatible with the new FF platform. the result is an extension that works even better than the old one. i'm happy it's back.
as for the user "RmichaelR", the old version was very complicated and extremely outdated. keep in mind that FF 57 no longer allows installation of addons that use the old API.
  • 1. Make it user friendly like Lazarus was: The most common use is to recover comments from boxes that didn't upload. But you have to find the selection in the middle of a long list of choices, which then opens another menu list.
    2. Slow? My Firefox v.57 is running much slower since the last version upgrade. I disabled Form History Control and it's running much faster. Maybe it's related to something else when I had to close and reopen Firefox, but right now my problems are over except for finding a new replacement for Firefox

    Developer response

Have you tried the latest webextension enabled version? It should resolve all your problems.
  • A bit complicated to use, but a real life saver of a program

    Developer response

    Thank you for your review.

I m happy to announce that the upcoming new version will be a lot simpler and easier to use.
  • This addons saved me a lot of times !
Do you plan to use WebExtensions in a future release?

    Developer response

Yes, I am developing a new WebExtension based version. Please be patient because it needs a complete rewrite so it is a lot of work.
  • Must admit I did not use this addon much until now, so this is more of a question than a review.

I just installed because I hoped there would be a solution for the following.
Many sites share the same field names in their forms - of course. And while sometimes it is good to find all "email" adresses entered elsewhere for new input, there are also fields like "login" or "username" where you really would prefer to only have those available used with this one site previously - mostly the one-and-only login of the site (not pick i out of lots of logins of other sites).

Did I miss this somewhere in the settings, or is it not possible currently? Could it be added?
    Thanks!

About your answer (Thanks): where "at the bottom"? In settings, Tab Display (German localization, so I translate back), there is the second checkbox from above: "standard display option is 'only current page'"
Using this (probably tried that before) did not change anything: all values used on any page for a certain input-name are still shown at all of the pages as input values.

About your second answer - seen at July 31: there seem to be quite some misunderstandings (on my side, but..) - I was not even aware of that "main window" (not sure if after installation months ago I was): it is not in the Firefox menu by default, needs to be put there by adjusting FF-menu, now put it in toolbar. Otherwise only in old-style menu (that shows up pressing Alt) under Extras.
And then yes, I can set that checkbox. Which means, that there is every value for every input-name found on the page. But not only the ones for the current website/host. There are listed a lot of values of all the different hosts that have such a field (same input-name). Yes, I can filter that there for the certain domain. But then for other pages the filter is active too it seems. If I read "only current page", I would understand that in the way that only values previously used for the current page's host are presented.
But most of all - I always spoke of the little value-choose-window that FF itself opens directly below the input field. I thought this plugin could filter the values presented therein. If this plugin can only be used with its own window, it is not what I searched for. My only wish is to have the FF selection of values presented for some "login" or "username" field filtered to the values used at that particular site I want to log-in. Seems quite obvious to me, but probably cannot be done with this plugin then. (Thanks for reading)

    Developer response

The main window displaying all formhistory entries has a checkbox named "Show only current page" ("Nur aktuelle Seite anzeigen") which will do exactly what you need. The preference setting you are referring to will actually check this option by default.

Alternatively you can also use the Advanced search option in the same window and enter the domain of the site you wish to filter.
  • On a daily basis I need a simple form recovery which precisely identifies the same form and previous data entries.

I have to admit, for that I've chosen Lazarus, as FHC fails in many cases to simply fill-up same form again.

Nevertheless, FHC has all the features Lazarus doesn't provide - access any time for data without presence of original form.

4 of 5, although the work done and commitment of author deserves a 5.
  • Given the private nature of most of the information collected, it may be worthwhile to offer the possibility (not the obligation) to protect the access of this extension with a password. Thank you anyway for this extension!
  • I love being able to clean up pesky auto-fills that I used once but never use again without having to clear all of the auto-fills that I use on a regular basis - don't know why FF didn't provide this option in the first place!
  • ... waiting for a multiprocess compatible extension fot the 5th star :) .
  • It would be wonderful to have an editable field in the grid for a label or little comment. THANKS FOR YOUR JOB.
