Still have some problems if you want to fully hide the address bar and its buttons (never shows it again until you restart firefox)
Flexbar could not be installed with version 25.0 any help
It is an excellent idea, but I would not recommend it until it get's fixed.
My bookmarks toolbar is empty after restart.
Version 0.95 is not fully functional in firefox 17.
Wonderful idea, but the addon does not work in firefox 14.
I was looking for something to auto-hide the addons bar. I like the clean look of firefox with no addon/status bar, like safari. But I don't have enough room on my toolbar for all the addon buttons. This seemed like a good solution.
Well, it works, but... when it hides the addons bar, it's replaced by a blank grey bar, nearly the size of the addon bar itself! What is the point of it then?
The auto-hiding of the toolbar works, but is also very annoying. If you don't use "tabs on top", then whenever you go to click on a tab, you nearly always overshoot a little - this causes the toobar to un-hide, which drops the tab bar down, so you have to re-target the tab you wanted to click or else you'll click somewhere on the toolbar.
One more thing, the bookmarks bar autohiding doesn't work on a mac (well, it hides, but it won't show again) and the control buttons in the tab bar don't appear.
Seemed like it had potential, but I was disappointed, and uninstalled it.
An excellent idea, but flawed in execution. FlexBar works fine until you restart Firefox (5.0.1). My Bookmarks Toolbar shows up blank after a restart. A pity. This is a genuinely useful addon for those with small-screen laptops.
Needs ability to disable menu bar. I agree with hacKim, toolbars should be controllable from context menu when disabled in add on.
disabled due to uncompatibility with Hide Caption Titlebar Plus
Great concept, and it certainly adds a much needed customization to Firefox; however, this add-on is unfortunately unusable in it's current state. (ver. 0.9.5)It's biggest flaw is that it completely overrides all default functionality of ALL toolbars, including the search-bar and the sidebar; and it does so irrevocably, without any possibility to restore previous default behavior for said toolbars.
Setting them to permanent OFF state doesn't help either, as once you use them via their hotkeys ( Ctrl+B for Bokmark sidebar and Ctrl+F for Find as examples) the add-on simply switches the back to Auto-Hide mode. One example of an instance where this can become annoying is when I tried to drag a tab inside the Bookmark side-bar and it disappeared before I have a chance to allocate the new bookmark.
This, and other future compatibility issues could simply be resolved by allowing a toolbar to fall-back to it's original default behaviour when disabling it in the add-on.
Another annoying hiccup is the big blue button which doesn't even appear in my case, probably because of compatibility issues with the multi-row bookmark bar Add-On I also have installed. Instead it just creates a big void where it's supposed to be; this also poses the dangerous possibility of locking myself out of using Firefox's menu-bar altogether.
In my opinion, this button should be replaced with a more innocuous icon, or better-yet a customizable hotkey.
For now I will keep this add-on disabled and hope for a better updated version which will resolve these issues.
This the best way to configure OUR Firefox!
Works great for me!
I have the bookmarks item next to menu items (in the same bar), and there seems to be a bug that those bookmarks are not always shown immediately after restart. However, I got them back by right clicking on the menu bar and selecting and deselecting the bookmarks toolbar. I can live with this since I tend to restart FF very seldom :)
The idea of hiding toolbars upon the user request is great. This add-on does the work, but has effects that could be considered as negative by some users. For instance, it kills the big orange Menu Button in FF4 and it doesn't let the user hide permanently the Menu Bar (FF4 default). After some restarts, the bookmarks in the Bookmark Toolbar disappeared. They were there (still appeared under the Bookmarks Menu in the Menu Bar), but were not displayed. I'm disabling this add-on until a new version is available.
Now after I made some hacking in it, it is working. The defect is not so big as i thought in the beginning but for thous that do not know programing it is a big thing. The user should not need to do some hacking in it as did to make it work. Now it works fine that is why I am giving it 3 stars. I looked on the programing and if I did not have other add ones it would probably work without the program tweaking that I made for my Mozilla. My advice to the programmers of this is: Test it better before launching it, It helps to test it first.
No issues here. Delivers as promised.
Do hope to see update for next Firefox 4!
Don't see buttons on tab bar. Bars refuse to unhide with mouseover--must manually unhide in FlexBar's toolbar icon pulldown menu. Annoying.
As Addy#1 said. Let me choose how longe to hover for autodisplay :)
(1) Time limitation for the auto-display too
(2) Its Icon/button movable from/between the toolbar to/and the status-bar
good addon but you must fix find bar problems...
Love this. I used to browse with the screen space maxed (F11) - but then the F11 wouldn't work sometimes. This gets rid of a lot of distracting stuff quickly and easily, and it's right back when I need it.
Some ideas to make it even more fabulous: include an option to click the little triangle instead of having it react to the proximity of the mouse cursor, as it it frequently activated unintentionally.
Still a great add-on though.
Flexbar icon should definitely be unhideable. When I hid my highly customized toolbars using the extension the extension's button got hidden as well so I could not work with Firefox any more.
Solution for the problem was this but it took some time to get everything back as it was: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Back+and+forward+or+other+toolbar+items+are+missing
Also, Flexbar seems not to be working well with Tab Kit extension at least when the tabs are on the left side: the tab area keeps shaking and the right-click menu is not stable and accessible.
This is a nifty add-on, but ctrl+f (find function) does not work AT ALL with FF3.6.6 Disabled all other addons and piled them back on one by one until i found the one that caused this. Checked and double checked. Flex bar inhibits the find function. would be 5 stars other wise. I use my ctrl+f WAY more than i need that screen space
This is a great idea. I love it! It works really well except for the problem with the search bar (or find bar, whatever). It keeps resetting it to off under various circumstances. I'm not sure of them all but I know it always does it when you start up Firefox.
This addon is working great for me. Being on a laptop with limited screen space, it is very nice to hide some toolbars that I really don't need to be seeing all the time.
Some criticism though: The icon is unhideable. I like having constant access to tools like Adblock and Lastpass, but I don't need constant access to FlexBar. Being able to hide the icon (which is much larger than all the others) would be aesthetically pleasing to me.
