  • So far, only one of the studies I have been involved with has been a hindrance to my browsing, and it was a simple matter to stop participating. As long as privacy is maintained—an issue Mozilla has long been a leader in—I am happy to participate in Pioneer studies if my participation helps to improve Firefox moving forward.

  • I AM IN A STATE OF BLINDING SHOCK THE DAY AFTER JOINING "PIONEER" THIS PIECE OF PIONEER SH** DELETED MY FIREFOX BROWSER AND REINSTALLED FIREFOX HAVING ERASED 200 BOOKMARKS COLLECTED OVER FIVE YEARS. GONE! VAPOR! OVER AN HOUR RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET. GONE! FIVE YEARS! IT'S GOING TO TAKE ME MONTHS TO RECOVER THOSE BOOKMARKS AT GOOGLE CHROME. GOODBYE FIREFOX.

  • It interferes with my use of https://www.ufcu.org/. After I disabled it and disabled a related survey extension, that site works properly.

  • It's great that i'll be participating in this continuous experiment

  • Great causes for participating this but please help to show the source code of this extension. It should be open source for transparency.

  • Mouse Click not working in some dropdown (e.g. Google Drive) with this addons.

  • Add more studies

  • It was nonobtrusive, I was thanked for using it, and during the time I participated in the study, I was somewhat more aware of my usage of my browser, though not to the extent that I refrained from my usual behavior, with one exception. I did not binge as much on Netflix as I usually do, and I was trying to finish a series that is closing on December 1st, 2017. Given that I was not binging, I looked into my other interests more deeply, namely software development. I once was trained as a UNIX system engineer, with C/C++ languages for development. More friendly languages are now in use (excepting Java...), so I am now learning Python and Scala, even dipping my toes into Haskell and finally really learning Functional Programming (in Scala). I wouldn't have done so if I had been spending all my free time binging on Netflix....
Once I get finished self studying, I think I will sign up for a Coursera Master's certificate. I think your Pioneer study might be a possible tool for objectively following Coursera students (and subtly motivating them ) so maybe not so objective after all...in any case, as Foucault pointed out, the historian is always part of the history, just set in another part of the time line (history), looking, looking...
Be well, and thank you for allowing me to be part of your history. LJM

  • I was very surprised by the very US-centric questionnaire I just got. I cannot imagine what value Mozilla gets out of asking these questions from people who don't live in the US, are not US citizens, and don't otherwise have a strong affiliation to the US. I imagine this means you might get very noisy data, especially given that you didn't ask about location in the survey itself.

  • Just partially participated in your survey about political attitudes. Don't understand why you would be asking this. Seems like a school project. And I am not a US citizen, so my opinions on this subject are not particularly relevant to you. I imagine you have quite a lot of non US subjects that received this survey.

  • I've been running Nightly with mods to about:config for several months. Only in the last couple have I learned of Rust and all the wonderful changes coming to 57 and beyond! I just got all my addons updated to webext this week. Now Pioneer makes it feel all the more like a garden I can tend to and I'm ready to see this grow.
