I love the idea of this. If he's still developing it, I can see some possible improvements;such as being able to choose your own color, but even as is, I really like it.
Fab tab has now made my session, very much easy. I can easily distinguish the websites by just seeing the tab color. I really enjoy the concept and net browsing now.
Colors sometimes too bright/solid (pure red, blue, yellow are hard on the yes) ..
Not always the colors are applied, when I disabled/enabled the addon the colors suddenly disappeared on my Windows 7 machine.
Linux had a few problems with it also, it didn't give the same feeling.
Otherwise a great idea and a low installsize so far ..
pretty great idea i quite enjoy this add on
Very good idea, has potential, but there are a few inherent problems. 1) Simply put, its a good idea and will certainly keep my eye on this for updates. 2) Seeing which tab is the currently open/active is difficult because of the different colours (although there are some options to tweak this, opacity for example, its still not great). Opacity doesn't help much, and the bold text looks ugly, and doesn't help much anyway. 3) The way that the colour is chosen is very rudimentary/limited. Sometimes it gets it so spot on, other times it gets it very wrong (e.g. a Google search should not have a black tab (with default settings) or a purple tab (with larger screenshot settings) - because of the "dominance" of the navigated links. Also, the default 'screenshot' options often, maybe just for me, choose a colour not representative of the page/site but of a slither of the top of the site - often above the main content of the banner). Again, there are some options to tweak this, like choosing the screenshot position and size, but this is a harder one to try and solve.
Highly recommended - and hopeful of future improvements.
FabTabs doesn't work on all pages, specifically mainly-white pages. It just turns the tab black with white text. The tab should be white with black text, right?! This is throwing me off numerous times- I'm TRYING to use it the way other people say they're using it- to locate pages. But the darn thing disguises Youtube, Google, the Add-ons page, ect. where Newgrounds and other mainly-black pages are!!! PLEASE fix this, it's getting on my nerves!!!
I'd just like to suggest a setting so the tab text color is the inverse of the created tab color.
There is also the problem of recognizing which is your currently selected tab among the forest of colors.
I like the idea a lot, but can't find it to be too useful for me unfortunately.
Perfect !!! ;-)
Not only does this make it very quick tell which tab is what when you have many open, but it also make FF pretty. I just love the effect of the page color continuing up through the toolbars and fading into the tab. :)
The rule more than the exception - when using Firefox - is that I, on average, have about 15 tabs open. It is quite a frustration and time consuming when trying to find a particular web page (i.e. tab). But since the installation of the 'FabTabs' extension - which simulate website colours on tabs - it became a lot easier, less of a frustration and a whole lot quicker to identify the website / page I want. For example: When I want to go to the Twitter website, I merely "filter" the search to light blue coloured tabs. Nice! Incidentally, favicons are better defined and tab text more contrasted. The latter features also makes locating tabs less of a frustration.
Some may argue that FabTabs does not add functionality; that it is merely eye-candy that makes your Firefox look as gaudy as the plugin name implies. As an avid power-user of Firefox, I absolutely and most wholeheartedly disagree. Not only does FabTabs breathe life and color into an otherwise bleak shades-of-grey world of the default UI, it dramatically improves your own personal cognition and mental identification of tabs. At least, that's what I found personally. It's hard to see with only a few tabs, but open a few dozen, and the tabs start to categorize themselves visually, without the need for any additional tab management plugin. This makes powerbrowsing a simple, smooth, and almost joyful experience. I know tabs with a particular deep shade of blue will likely be Facebook, a certain shade of red is a CNN.com article, and a familiar bright orange is the Blogger dashboard. Color-coding tabs by page colors has radically improved my speed and efficiency in finding the right tab without resorting to a search, thumbnail view, or some fancy tab-management method/plugin. I can easily work with dozens tabs as if they were just a few thanks to the gorgeous functionality of FabTabs.
This is definitely the best of its kind. Unfortunately what ihavenoneedfornicknames said a year ago still apply: on a Mac, the active tab's color is always gray (the default), and the overlay of the color doesn't match the curved edges of tabs.
It doesn't just makes the tab colorful , It makes me Cheereful , gives whole new Life to me to browse the web on the go.
I simply can't remember when I had my firefox opened without fabtab.
Looks great. works great.
Captain, the latest update is creating issues. I see 4 close buttons now in different colors. Please give us a way to disable the new contrast switching tab close button.
Great, but how can I deactivate the new function "contrast switching tab close button" ?
Really handy to regroup tabs from the same site by color.
My only regret is that it makes the tab very thicker than the old ones, and I dislike it. Could be perfect if at least an option is added to adjust this behavior.
Have been trying this out and seems to be a good idea though some of the tabs end up having darker and slightly weirder colors. Good job overall!
I just love the Different colored tabs
К сожалению никакой красоты не увидел.Всё непонятно ,желательно доработать контраст текста и фона.Но задумка замечательная!!!
I keep telling people there are just two extensions that have made my browser both beautiful and sensible: Tabs Always in Titlebar and FabTabs. (OK - Tab Utilities too)
In my opinion most of the readability gripes I've seen here can be handled with the extension's options, as well as Tab Utilities >Options >Appearance >Tabs - although admittedly I don't bother with personas or much in the way of themes - with FabTabs I just don't feel the need.
The Captain is a pretty awesome fellow and author of some other extensions as well and has his own forums on his website where he listens. Upon my suggestion he wasted no time at all in extending the FabTab (new version 1.4.4) treatment to my Vertical Toolbar. Oh yeah, the gradiated button coloring is really cool too.
I love my FabTabs and don't understand why more people don't use it. If they're that hung up on their precious personas you'd think they might also try a little simple tweaking.
This is nice extension with one exception: if tab's color is dark then black letters on dark background is not user-friendly. Color of caption of tab should be automatically changed to color contrasting with background.
I used to use PageStyle2Tab before. I tried your addon now, but it creates an annoying space between tabs (about 2px).
Also, I think that it would be nice if we had the option to use css color codes of the page in order to calculate the tab color besides the screenshot method. We could even use an average of the calculated values of both methods.
Finally, you need to provide a way to make the tab text color have a value that doesn't make it "disappear" in case it is the same color as the one calculated for the tab background. This needs to work in conjunction with TabMixPlus's current/unread/other tab styles or perhaps override its settings.
I really like this add-on, and the effect it has. I do wish, however, that it didn't have any effect outside of the tab, I use a Persona for a reason, and it's a little annoying not being able to see the Persona itself because this add-on has either colored that area in, or just entirely wiped it clean...
