  • Nice! FF Portable 22.
Note: cleared history after few hours.
  • No problems in Firefox 21.0
  • Works with firefox portable 19.0.2 no problems. I would suggest adding an option to also remove cookies alongside with the history. That would be a gift from the gods since no other cookie addons seem to have a remove-per-day functionality
  • Dosen't work in firefox 18.0.2.
  • From what I see this add-on is still working as it should. Good job, keep it up.
  • The functionality is not what the add-on actually provides if you are trying to store more history; it's only useful if you want less. It just changes the max # of pages to save. That "infinite" is "999999 pages" doesn't have any relation to actual days; I could set the about:config settings manually and have a similarly useless result.
Did you read the whole code or just a part of it? Setting a large limit is the first step, there is daily expiration code running on idle, as properly indicated in the description.
  • This extension functioned well for some time after I installed it. However, it seems to have failed completely about a
month ago, judging from the contents of my browsing history list. Too bad, since now I am back to the plight of the
standard Firefox user, who will danged well keep as much history as the Mozilla developers say he will.
  • I had over a year worth of history, and I only wanted to keep 90 days worth. I decided to give this add-on a try. Before I knew it, nine months of history was gone and I never noticed any slowdowns while using Firefox.
  • This add-on seems to be just what I've been looking for: a way to delete old history data that is over a certain age.

I have one request though: could this add-on also be used to delete Form & Search History older than a certain age, as well as deleting the browsing history as it currently does? That would be an awesome additional feature I think!
  • This capability should be built-in in Firefox, as it used to be. Without it, History gets really big and causes some slowness.
  • Hello,

For me, this addon doesn't seem to delete my history and leave the number of recent days I specify. I am using the latest Firefox release 9.0.1

Is this addon known to work properly on the latest Firefox or do any other addons or settings conflict with it?

    Thank you.
    My reply to MaK77:

Hi, thanks for replying. I appreciate this isn't a suitable place for an ongoing detailed discussion.

Is it the pc which needs to be idle or the browser? If the browser, when is the required idle state? Is it any time the pc is on with the browser closed? Or is it specifically just after closing the browser?

Usually I set your addon to 2 days, because my motive for using it is to keep the visited status of pages for 2 days.

I view the history via the Menu Bar, History, Show All History.

Also, if I use the Session Manager addon to change Firefox's default handling of sessions, is that likely to affect browsing history? Or is that completely separate to sessions?

Just to add finally, I removed your addon, disabled places.history, reset the expiration.transient values, enabled places.history then reinstalled your addon, all of which might now be giving me a better experience.
Can I check that the following config settings which I see / have are as expected and the only settings required for your addon to work correctly:

    extensions.bonardonet.expire-history-by-days.days 2

    extensions.bonardonet.expire-history-by-days.disable_expiration false

    extensions.bootstrappedAddons {"expire-history-by-days@bonardo.net":{"version":"1.1","descriptor":"C:\\Users\\xxx\\AppData\\Roaming\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\fi09gcbf.default\\extensions\\expire-history-by-days@bonardo.net.xpi"}}

    Many thanks,
The removal happens on idle, did you try to leave the computer idle for 10 minutes and check back later?
How many days did you set and where did you check for the removal?
By idle, I mean leave the browser open and go making a coffee, come back after 5 minutes with your hot coffee and check.
  • it does what it says. no problems.
    thanks a lot!
  • Thanks for updating this for 7.0.1. I installed it - opened the addons tab - FF froze. I realized it was deleting my history based on its default setting - EDIT : according to the dev it was not - ok - please add a window in start up as detailed below /EDIT. I switched to another open window which was not frozen and hit exit. Reopened FF and let it open all night - in the morning still frozen. Exited same way and opened MyProfile\extensions and deleted the damn thing - then restored my history - happily I could.

You should have a window pop up on first run for the user to set expiration and all - with an option to do it later - and till then have this sleep (EDIT : suposedly it slept). What would I do if I had no other windows open (you forgot about them happily) - kill the process ? And when I exited and restarted the addon did not expect it and just sat on an infinite loop. Well done !

EDIT : my places was not corrupt - I had tested it with your other addon
The addon does not do anything till you change the options value to a certain amount of days, and it does its work on idle, so I can't see what may have happened in your case, unless the database was corrupt. I'll double check to see if it may have done something unexpected.
  • I was looking for this since the feature disappeared from the browser. Thanks a lot!
