tl;dr Don't bother with this addon, it works only at Wikipedia accessed through HTTP.
I was originally looking for addons similar to "Blank Your Monitor + Easy Reading", i.e. tools that change color scheme and font of the website. Only changing link color&decoration wasn't what I expected, when I first saw the name "Easy Read". More like "Distraction-free Reading".
I got even more disappointed, when I found out that it didn't work outside Wikipedia… Then I thought the name should had been "Distraction-free Wikipedia".
However, when I actually tried it, this "Easy Read" didn't work even at Wikipedia. It took me a while to realize that I was accessing the site via HTTPS—of course, it was 2014. Yup, it worked only with *unencrypted* connection. Therefore, "Distraction-free Wikipedia if you don't care about privacy".
Yes, this addon sucks.
Hi davkol, Easy Read now works on the HTTPS versions of Wikipedia as well.
I was initially aiming to support other sites but got too busy and left the extension working on just Wikipedia. It helps me a lot and I think it will help others as well so I'll leave it up.
I've updated the description to be a bit clearer about working only on Wikipedia.
You make it easier for me to study. I wish you all the best and hope you can come up with an OS version that can be applied to any document as PDF.
Very useful and helpful.
Somehow the original review got lost, so here it is:
Just wanted to say thank you again---I can't manage without this add-on. I'm currently reading a 30 chapter thing, each chapter being in a small font that won't zoom into a large enough one for me without exceeding the page width and requiring the use of the bottom scroll bar--what a pain!-- and I'd be aggravted or have given up long ago without Easy Read. I really appreciate being able to just right click and select "Easy Read" and then "yes" to "select all text"--so quick and easy.
This add-on is essential to me. So a majorly huge "Thank you" yet again. Six out of 5 stars.
Very handy. Does just what it says. I'd like a toolbar button with a drop down menu in addition to the right-click context menu, but it works just fine the way it is. Thanks!
Good job. Now it works on French Wikipedia. Also tried Spanish and Russian. Thanks a lot, Byron!
I tried Easy read 0.2.0 with Firefox 6.0.2 and that's not working for me!
EDIT: I do not know that Easy Read 0.2 only works on Wikipedia and only for English language pages so it's working now...
Pour l'instant fonctionne seulement sur les pages anglaises de Wikipédia, l'auteur m'a dis que peut-être dans les versions futur d'autres langues seront ajoutés!
Amulira, Easy Read works for me on FF 6.0.2, although the status bar icon only appears after you enable the Add-On Bar (Ctrl+/). As reviews aren't meant for problems or issues, please go to the Support site (http://groups.google.com/group/easy-read/) and start a post there and I'll try and help you out. It's a Google group, so you can log on using your Google account details.
Clean and efficient.
Easy to install and use; Wikipedia pages look cleaner and are easier to read! And the links are still there!
Does exactly what it says on the tin... I like it!
