Excellent Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Better than any others extensions, like it alot!

Works nicely Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Please, move the "Options" part into the extensions' settings page and put the actual "Close" button above the tab list. IMO it would make this extension simpler and better.

Thanks for the review.

Sorry but I'll not put the "Options" part into the extensions' settings page because I like to use it this way myself.

I find it easier to be able to change the filters options or the close mode from the panel instead of opening the addon-on page then go to the add-on options (and do the same actions when I want to rollback to previous state).

What I can do, it's to remember the "Option" panel state so you can "hide" it and it will not bother you until you click on it.

Let me know.

Great add-on

Must-have addon for heavy tab users Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This does exactly what it says it does, with no bugs. Make sure you play around with the filters to make sure you're getting all your duplicates.

One suggestion: Please add a whitelist! I would like to whitelist some domains to have duplicates of those sites NEVER detected and never shown to me.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.2.2).

Thanks for the review.

I'll add the whitelist but the main idea is to not close the whitelisted urls and still show them (if you want to clean all).

Based on your comment I'll add some options to please everyone. :)

Great Add-on, little request. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Think you could add 2 lists
1. Ignore these sites through all tabs"YouTube.com, About:new-tab, etc."
2. Ignore tab groups/widow duplicates for these sites "About:NewTab, youtube.com, etc"
3a. Maybe for now just allow an option to select specific about:about pages. Like for example I want it to detect multiple about:addons. However I would rather it ignore New-tabs IF they are in separate tab-groups/windows YET detect them if they are in the same TabGrouping/Window.

Also why no support e-mail?

Hi,

Thanks for the review.

About your ideas I'll try to propose something which should allow to do something similar.

This is one of my must-haves. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm rather profligate with tabs; anything I can do to keep the total down is a bonus. This does.
I have the "ignore hash" on, so that different areas of the same pages are treated as duplicates, and everything else in this group off.
The only downside, if you can call it that, is when I sometimes I want to duplicate the page and use the dup to explore the site. It's an extra couple of clicks to avoid being caught.

Yes as user of my add-on, I have the same problem with the intentional duplicate tab :)
but I cannot find a way to detect it for the moment.

[Fixed] Icon not showing up in FF v52.0a2 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Edit 2: has been fixed.

Original review:

With v2.2.0 of the add-on, its icon doesn't show up in the nav-bar (where v2.1.5's icon was placed) or even in the Customize mode for that matter.

I get the following error in Browser Console: http://i.imgur.com/k6Ldj1B.png.

Please look into this. Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for the report.

Sadly, I cannot reproduce the problem with the nightly... it would be to easy....

In the Browser Console, can you click on "Object" in the line "duplicate-tab-closer: Object { stack:"", 5 more... }"
Then you should see a panel on the right of the browser console.
Can you send me what is written in it? (be sure to extend the right panel so I can see the full stack)

Thanks

Nice tool with headroom, proposal included Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Nice work, clean results, thanks for that. What I am missing, but maybe didn't find it yet, is the option to find duplicate tabs that live in one of many open FF windows. I use to keep some windows open, with an actual count of just > 1,000 cumulated tabs open. Yes, weird, but useful (for me). Now I saw that, probably due to some not so perfect saved session reconstructions (or also directly done by me), there is a pretty large count of tabs pointing to the same URL that are in different open FF windows. Presently, these obviously are not indicated as duplicates. Is there a simple way to locate these using this tool already (maybe an option setting), or do you plan to add that function? You would immediately have at least one happy user who woul love to add the fifth star for that.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.5).

Thanks for the review.

I'll add on option to consider all the opened windows.

Very good, but I have some suggestions. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Very useful addon, thanks!

As for suggestions:
Please, make an option to whitelist some URIs such as new tabs. I use new tabs as separators between groups of tabs and don't want them destroyed.
Also sometimes I need to open same page in two tabs at different positions and they should be whitelisted too.

One more alternative way, I think it's a good idea:
Auto-close only newly opened tabs and show list of old duplicate tabs. In this case we eliminating all mouse-related problems (doubleclicks-doubletabs by lagging wheel button) and not destroying anything already existed and structured.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.5).

Hi,

Thanks for the review.

I've planed to provide a whitelist so it should help with your usecase,

For the other alternative "Auto-close only newly opened tabs and show list of old duplicate tabs", you can do something similar by using the option "On duplicate tab detected => Do nothing" to allow duplicates (and so list them), then switch to the option "On duplicate tab detected => Close tab automatically".
But maybe I've missed something in your explanation. :)

Note: maybe you could simply use add-ons which provide group functionality like
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-groups-panorama
or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-groups
or https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-groups-button....

Nicely done Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Well thought and concept for indicating & closing duplicate tabs. Could you add shortcut key setting to execute the closing?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.5).

Hi,

Thanks for the review.

I've added the hotkey Ctrl+Alt+w to close all duplicate tabs (this can be configured in the options).

Hi,

This should be in the next version.

NEEDS whitelisting feature.. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Thumbs up for a perfect idea!
But as others already have asked for it; a whitelisting/blacklisting feature using url patterns is a must have..

so please add it thus we'll have a perfectly implemented idea

much much Thanks.

It's planned but not for the next version.
But I'm working on it.

Useful does the job (bug report as wel) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hey first off love the addon really great.

I tried posting in the support section about this but it says it doesn't exist.

Awhile ago firefox update the newtab feature and renamed it to "about:newtab" and currently this addon doesn't detect it as a duplicate tab and close it. If theres anyway you could fix this that would be awesome.

Hi, This will be fixed in the next version.

Thanks for the report.

Great for Productivity in an office Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I have staffers who repeatedly open tabs to the same website from the bookmarks Again & Again & Again & Again...as much as over 30 tabs, many of them duplicates. It doesn't really EVER occur to them that the TAB Bar is actually a Navigation Tool! Instead, once Firefox starts clogging up they complain that the Internet or the PC is slow!

This Add-on is PERFECT! for my situation. The options are simply useful for someone managing PC & Network resources of Standard Users. But I could see how PRO users and web professionals might really not need this.

Confusing Info Rated 5 out of 5 stars

On AMO addon page and about:addons page, it says "e10s (electrolysis aka multi-process) is NOT supported". But on AMO version history page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/duplicate-tabs-closer/versions/), for version 2.1.3, it says "e10s (electrolysis aka multi-process) is fully supported". Hence, confusion, and supported tough after test.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.5).

Yes, sorry for that. In my previous tests I thought it was supported but I've found some issues and as I'm working on a new version with the webextension SDK (which support e10s) I don't want to loose time.

It works. But
Duplicate Tabs Closer 2.1.5 (with FF 47.0.1) can't see filters options.
Please fix.

OK. I can see filter options from Duplicate Tabs Closer button. For saving space, I often hidden addon's button from navigation bar, so I need to access from the about:addons page.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.5).

Hi,

I've hidden most of the options in the about:addons page because they can be access directly from the panel when you click on the Duplicate Tabs Closer button. Do you really need to access the options from the about:addons page and why ?

*** Edit ***

Ok I'll put it back then. :)

Thanks

recent update sucks: freezes browser when switching tabs. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

cool addon, but the recent update introduced major freezes, making switching tabs a pain in the ass.

had to disable this addon to be able to somehow use the browser without 5 sec freezes when switching tabs. :(

hopefully you fix this problem soon.

Note that in my point of view you don't need to give a bad rating in case of bug, it will not make the fix comes faster. :)

//Edit: I'm working on the issue, sadly not fixed in 2.1.2

Thanks
