Confusing Info Rated 5 out of 5 stars

On AMO addon page and about:addons page, it says "e10s (electrolysis aka multi-process) is NOT supported". But on AMO version history page (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/duplicate-tabs-closer/versions/), for version 2.1.3, it says "e10s (electrolysis aka multi-process) is fully supported". Hence, confusion, and supported tough after test.

Yes, sorry for that. In my previous tests I thought it was supported but I've found some issues and as I'm working on a new version with the webextension SDK (which support e10s) I don't want to loose time.

It works. But
Duplicate Tabs Closer 2.1.5 (with FF 47.0.1) can't see filters options.
Please fix.

OK. I can see filter options from Duplicate Tabs Closer button. For saving space, I often hidden addon's button from navigation bar, so I need to access from the about:addons page.

Hi,

I've hidden most of the options in the about:addons page because they can be access directly from the panel when you click on the Duplicate Tabs Closer button. Do you really need to access the options from the about:addons page and why ?

*** Edit ***

Ok I'll put it back then. :)

Thanks

recent update sucks: freezes browser when switching tabs. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

cool addon, but the recent update introduced major freezes, making switching tabs a pain in the ass.

had to disable this addon to be able to somehow use the browser without 5 sec freezes when switching tabs. :(

hopefully you fix this problem soon.

Thanks for the report.

Note that in my point of view you don't need to give a bad rating in case of bug, it will not make the fix comes faster. :)

Caused Firefox to start freezing recently Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The add-on worked great, but for some reason it started making my Firefox freeze every few seconds today. The issue resolved after I disabled it; I didn't install any other add-ons, so it doesn't seem to be that kind of a conflict.

//EDIT: I used the newest version of the plugin with the default options (Initially I reset and then reinstalled Firefox and all add-ons because I didn't expect any conflicts since I hadn't made any changes for a while). My other add-ons are Adblock Plus, DownThemAll, MultipleTabHandler, Perapera Chinese, Rikaichan, SessionManager and Youtube Video and Audio Downloader. Since I reinstalled everything today, all have newest versions.

I always keep around 500 - 1000 tabs at the same time, although I only load ~10 at a time (the rest remain dormant until selected since I get them through restoring the last session). Up until now, Duplicate Tabs Closer worked with 1500+ tabs though, so I don't think that's the problem.

I tried to reinstall it just now, and FF started hanging up immediately for a few seconds with brief periods of proper functioning in-between, and again the problem went away once I disabled it.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.1).

need more information

To be able to understand the problem I need more information like:
- Do you have the previous version 2.01?
- What are the selected options?
- The list of your other addons

Exellent! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Love this add-on, really usefull when my mouse's batteries are in the charger and I have to use an old one with a crappy wheel that ends up clicking 2 or 3 times when pressed. But right now it's not working since I updated to Firefox 45. Thank you very much.

Hi,

Thanks for the review.

Fantastic Add-On! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This add-on is incredibly useful for me! I have an issue with my mouse where clicking the scroll wheel once will randomly count as 2 or more clicks, which leads to me trying to open a link in a new tab opening way more tabs than I need.

The options this add-on comes packed with also make modifying which tabs get closed and which stay open when duplicated easy as pie. The one thing I wish the add-on had as of this post is a way to track how many duplicate tabs were closed during the session/lifetime of the add-on's installation and a list of the URLs of those closed tabs. Other than that, Duplicate Tabs Closer is exactly what I was looking for to make my life just a little bit easier.

Thank you for making this!

Thanks for the review.

I'll add on the todo list an history panel this should correspond to your needs.

I miss this addon! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I recently switched to Pale Moon v26+ to stay away from the changes Mozilla is making to Firefox v46.

I can install older versions of this addon in Pale Moon but they don't work, it doesn't detect duplicate tabs.

Can you please make this work with Pale Moon v26 and up? Thank you!

Ok I will look at it.

Very useful idea! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Its a very useful idea, i just miss some kind of whitelist system.
In my case i would like to keep the old page and activate it on the internet, but from file:// i would like to keep the new site and activate it. Actually i can only close all new or all old tabs, it would be perfect if this would be adjustable.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.0.0.1-signed).

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. There is a new version coming with new options and a panel which should allow you to choose what to kill. I will see after for the white list if needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is incredibly useful. The label indicating how many duplicate tabs there are is absolutely superb.

When an option is changed, it doesnt take affect on the number in the icon until next tab select, it would be cool if it took effect on option change.

I am afraid to actually tell it to close, is there someway it can list out the duplicate tabs, i would like to focus them and check if i had text typed in it etc before closing. I will then focus the tab that i want to keep open and click something telling it to close all other tabs that are duplicate of my current tab.

The drop down on the toolbar button takes up space, the drop down menu is simply the options, and if someone wants to edit that, they should do so from the addon manager/options page, which you have. Maybe instead of this drop down menu being a copy of the options, make it a list of duplicate tabs? :)

A screenshot of the toolbar button on this AMO page would be nice, by default it should start in the nav bar, it took a second before I realized I had to go "Customize" then drag it out to the nav bar.

Would it be cool if you set pointer-events none on the number badge/label? Because I use "Puzzle Bars" addon to move all my buttons to the URL bar so the badge gets in the way of the click. Here is a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/nVJcnfu.png

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.0.0.1-signed).

Thanks for the review!

All your comments should be fixed in the coming version. Now I use the sdk Toogle button and a panel to display the option and duplicated tabs.
I've made a test with Puzzle Bars and there is no problem also (but the badge of the button is not well displayed).

Useful addon Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is really a useful extension. But it was better to have «Exception» list just as opera has.

Thanks for the review. The «Exception» list is in the todo list.

Yea Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works nice so far, does exactly what it says it does!

I'd have two and a half feature requests though:

1) Tab management add-ons like Tab Mix Plus often provide the means to duplicate tabs (including their history). Could you please add an option to keep two tabs (at least temporarily), so it wouldn't close a manually (intentionally) duplicated tab if there aren't more than two. Sometimes, duplicating a tab and then working from there is a lot more convenient than using the existing tab's history (let alone a new/blank tab).
(There's more, like, such an option should work with restoring a closed tab (that I may not consider a duplicate per se), as well as manually browsing to the same page (by accidental clicks or as an intermediary page), so, depending on your implementation, these may then be inclusive already, or they'd need discrete handling.)

2a) In addition to a dialogue or list or something (mentioned in other comments) to let the user choose/confirm whether to close a tab or not (as an alternative to the automatic mode) - some kind of notification would be nice as well. I'm not sure how this would look so it isn't too obtrusive, but it would be especially useful when the existing tab is way off on the tab bar. (Maybe combine the confirmation list/thing with the notification.)
2b) Alternatively (or additionally), maybe you could add an option to move the existing tab into the same position as the closed one. (I suppose this could make compatibility with other add-ons (and even FF updates) an issue when they don't conform, so it's something to be pondered.)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.0.0.1-signed).

Thanks for the rating and the feedback.

1) I will provide a new option to allow "intentional" duplicate tabs. (if I can detect all these "intentional" duplicated tabs.
2) The next version will provide a way to identify the duplicate tabs when you're not in autoclose mod and so let you decide which tabs you want to close.

Seems to work completely fine, but does not function with tabs unloaded using UnloadTab 0.24.7. While I'm sure this is due to the nature of UnloadTab, it's a little disappointing as I need UnloadTab to keep my memory usage down, and loading all tabs to check for duplicates isn't practical. However, this is no fault of the developer, it's just because of the way I use my browser.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.3.2.1-signed).

Thanks for the rating. I'll make some tests with UnloadTab to see if I can fix somehting. I'll release a new version very soon but it may be not fix the problem.

messes with session restoring Rated 4 out of 5 stars

whenever i tried to restore a crashed session it autocloses the tabs even before they get loaded , offcourse i can disable the autoclose option but i guess autoclose should work when the tabs get loaded

edit - thanx developer :)

Closes tabs that have the same URL, but have completely different content Rated 5 out of 5 stars

If I have many Gmail accounts, each tab for each different account will have same URL, like this:

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox

Even though they have the same URL, they are displaying completely different content, and they still get closed by DTC. If you can programmatically detect that the tabs are different and not close them, that would be ideal. An easier way might be to allow the user to edit a list of exempt URL's that will not be closed, like the one above. You could put Gmail URL's in the list by default.

Of course, you can do both different content detection, and a list of exempt URL's.

Hi,

Thanks for the review.

I've already tried to look at the page content but it's not reliable because of some not static information like date time, num of people logged,...

But I can add an option to also compare the tab title (with your gmail example it will work).
I may also add a white list later.

I love it, but... Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As someone who consistently has 100+ tabs open at any given time, this is a lifesaver!
he only thing I wish it had was a small startup delay. I run Nightly, and whenever I restart it, the DTC sees all the loading tabs as the same and closes everything!
It's not a big enough gripe to stop using it, I just need to remember to disable it before restarting for now...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.3.2.1-signed).

Hi, thanks for the review.
I'm working on the new version and fix some issues. I'll make some tests with the Nightly to be sure.
