  • Need the ability to delete a file from disk
  • Six out of Five stars!
Should be default part of Firefox, or at least about:config-able. My finger-bots don't care for the F4 hotkey {and understand why Ctrl J could not be used), so I made a very simple Autohotkey script to replace 'F4' with 'Ctrl J' in Firefox:

    Autohokey File:

    EXE File:

(The EXE file may be put into the Windows 'Startup' folder to run in the background)

For those of you with Autohotkey who don't want to download a file from a stranger, here is the code I used:

#NoEnv ; Recommended for performance and compatibility with future AutoHotkey releases.
; #Warn ; Enable warnings to assist with detecting common errors.
SendMode Input ; Recommended for new scripts due to its superior speed and reliability.
SetWorkingDir %A_ScriptDir% ; Ensures a consistent starting directory.

    #IfWinActive ahk_class MozillaWindowClass

    Send {f4}

    Thanks again for the add-on!
  • The icon doesn't auto-hide and the extension doesn't redirect Ctrl+J hotkey, which probably is due to limitation of Firefox's extension framework. But it takes a while to get use to the new hotkey and it is confusing because I have another computer in which I am not allowed to install extensions.
The real reason I take a star away is that icon show the download sidebar, but cannot hide it. It is very counterintuitive.
  • Downloads sidebar and the download history of Firefox are displaying often different sizes of the downloaded content. Often it shows up a size from only 13 kb on a downloaded picture while in the download history of Firefox it shows up with a size from 200 kb. So i often have to double check, if picture is downloaded correctly.
  • Oh God, thank you so much for this, great addon! (Hvala! :) )
  • still love your extension but is there a way to retrieve the downloads after a firefox restart ?
  • Good. Can it be translated into other language?
  • sgn does not load in firefox
Hi! I'd appreciate if you could explain a bit further what exactly doesn't load. Thanks!
  • Featured!

    FREE Licensed!!

    = Excellent!!
  • Works as it says, however.. It would be nice to be able to change the hotkey, or maybe change the default one to Ctrl+J, which is the normal keybinding for the "downloads" within Firefox. And then obviously disable the one within firefox so it doesn't open 2 menus
And in general, just some sort of options for it, like being able to make it open once you start a download.

    Otherwise, great work! :)
Unfortunately, extension shortcuts are not configurable (yet).

I thought it would be better not to override the default downloads shortcut as it still has more options than this extension.

F4 used to be the downloads shortcut in Opera, and its current ly assigned to "search engines menu" in Firefox, but only when search bar is focused, so there's (hopefully) not much harm in overriding that shortcut.

As for the automatic opening of the sidebar once a download begins, that's also not an option with the web extensions API (yet).
  • I'd surely be a big fan of this extention, if only it featured drag'n'drop file interactions, just as the default firefox downloads dropdown-menu does.
Unfortunately, that's still not possible to do with the current Web Extensions downloads API. As soon as it's supported, I'll add it.
  • Muy pero muy conveniente
  • Awesome! Just needs the speed and time left line (on the right side of the stop/pause or above and below the bar on the right side) and to be able to click the icon again to close it...
  • Thank you! This is great and convenient. It may be better if it can twinkle 3s when download success, so that we will know which download is done.
  • Awesome, only thing I'd like is if it automatically switched to the downloads bar if a download started (not sure if that's even possible though)
