Found it on accident Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've been searching for this for months, and the main reason I couldn't find it was because I didn't even use it for a dictionary, but other search engines, which is something it does better and faster than the leading addons in that category. It's the only one I know of that lets you put them in the very first context menu layer, and not in a sub-menu for faster access. Also no extra hassle with downloading search engine toolbars, like many require you to do. It does currently work on latest stable version of Firefox for me with no problems, i can't confirm for betas.

The only suggestions I would give would be picture icons next to each search but it's no big deal, room for more slots of course which i'm sure everyone wants, and change tags or whatever on this site so it pops up more often so other scan discover it(not sure how this works). thanks for one of the most simple and useful addons i've seen

Update? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

When is an updated version going to be available for FF 8? I miss this add on!!! :(

One of the best add-ons I've ever used with FF. This is something I can't do without since I can't spell to save my life. To bad it's not compatible with the new release FF (and TB) keeps bugging me to download (win7). Hopefully it will be soon.

Working now with Mac FF8 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've been using DictionarySearch for years and rely on so much that if it had remained incompatible in FF8, I would've stayed with the insecure FF 7.0.1. Unfortunately, even after incrementing the maxVersion from 7.* to 8.* in its install.rdf, Mac FF8 still would not declare DictionarySearch compatible. Thanks to Steven's suggestion on 11/14/11 (below), I added Mozilla's Add-on Compatibility Reporter extension, followed its procedure for testing and deeming extensions compatible, and DictionarySearch is now functional once again. Whew!

I found that it will work with FF 8.0 if you use the Add On Compatibility Reporter.

Firefox 8.0 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The extension works fine here (with no errors in the error console) if I manually bump the maxVersion from 7.* to 8.* in the install.rdf file.

Goes beyond a dictionary Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is cool I use it as a Google/Wiki/Dictionary search context menu and it speeds my work up a lot.

FF 7.x Rated 5 out of 5 stars

For me it works fine with the install.rdf trick. (Win7)
Thanks for the explanation!

"install.rdf trick doesn't seem to work in this case."

Really? I modified the value '6.*' to '7.*' in the 'install.rdf', pushed the modified 'install.rdf' back into the latest 'Dictionary Search' .xpi, Installed the modified .xpi via the 'AddOns Manager|Extensions|Install AddOns from File...' and it worked for FF 7.0 installed on both my Desktop and my Netbook. (Anyone unsure of what I'm typing about here should do a Search for: "modifying .xpi" with their favorite search engine.)

One great step forward, one back ?

VERY good add-on, worthy to get and support author. Sorely needs to be usable with Thunderbird 6, and even with browser Firefox 6 and above.

Favorite Add-on! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is the first add-on I install when dealing with new installations of Firefox. A must have! Still wish there were room for more dictionaries (8? 10?) :)

Mike Parker - Thanks so much for the update there! Was waiting so impatiently for an FF4 update, this is seriously one of the most useful addons I got when I'm writing, can barely survive without it!!

DictionarySearch will work with Firefox 4 if you unzip the .XPI file and change the "maxVersion" field in the INSTALL.RDF file to something like 4.5.

Or you can download a copy that I updated myself. This .XPI file can be installed directly into FF4:

Great plugin! The only bad thing is the title as it is a bit misleading; you can use this to search anything obviously in the simplest way.

One suggestions: make it open a tab next on the list instead to the end.
