Not working on FF 57
Quit working in FF ESR 52.5.0. Almost worthless now...
This the the add-on I use most! I will also miss it the most. PLEASE rewrite/update it so it will work post Firefox 57?
EDIT: Never mind. I found an up-to-date, and better replacement for this add-on: SSS
indispensable addon for me, unfortunately since Firefox v39, it causes the right-click context menu to stop showing up sometimes. Only disabling and re-enabling the addon fixes the issue.
Excellent and does the job. Thanks.
This is an indispensable add-on. I've used it for years. For whatever reason, it won't work with FF40 (and it needs to be signed too).
Thank you for your upgrading this addon.
It's really great, and I have used for several years.
Keep on updating it!
It basically means you can highlight any text, insert it into any url and open it directly on right click.
This means you can make custom right click searches on any site that has a regular url string when you search, which is most sites.
Search Twitter for "$"
- For searching Twitter ("All", not "Top")
Because it's simple and logical you can even get creative. I use this:
- To simply open a new tab with the highlighted text in address bar, which I use to open plain text URLs.
It may be called "Dictionary"Search but it can do a lot more than that.
I have been using this add-on for almost two years and I am thoroughly satisfied with it. Whenever I need to know the definition of a word or know its synonyms or antonyms, I use this trusty extension to help me do just that. Because of the ease of access and wealth of information provided by this add-on and its accompanied lexical website, my ability to speak and write properly has been dramatically improved. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to better their English.
Doesn't set parent tab and thus opens at the end of the tab bar. Other than that, a very professional extension.
I've used this addon for years - and so glad it keeps working!
It's great for additionally adding useful context menu items for highlighting postcodes and looking them up in maps, or products and looking them up on Amazon... the possibilities are endless (well actually - you have 4, but thats always proved fine)
Very useful, and not just for dictionaries!
Is there any way to specify a _single_ target window, or just re-use the last one? It's sooo much more convenient to just detach one window and leave it open.
Thanks again for a great tool.
Very useful addon, used for years even though it was a hassle to set it up the way I wanted. Context search ( https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/context-search/ ) is much better.
Anyway thank your for your addon.
This works great but i wish there were more dictionary slots to fit more sites in. The reason for more is for language learners who need access to multiple dictionary, colloquial/idiom dictionaries, conjugation searches etc.
Suggestion: Please add more spaces to add more dictionaries.
Whenever there is a new PC or browser installation is taking place be it in office or for my friends, I make it a point to have Firefox installed with powerul, smart addons like DictionarySearch and many others. Per my calculations this add-on definitely saves 10-15 secs of your time on every search you do. You save quite a LOT of time when you do thousands of search in a day and this add-on makes it very easy with just asking you to enter the text for (context menu) and the URL for the search. I will repeat my words, use this addon if you want to know the dictionary meaning of a word, Google images, Wikipedia page, Acronym finder (from acronymfinder.com) and almost any type of search and it is REALLY SIMPLE.
Great add-on, can be used in a lot of different ways than just dictionary lookup (e.g. look up a bug ID in a bug database, look up a book title or ISBN number on your favorite online bookstore etc. etc.)
This is an absolute must-have for me. Which is why I've been delaying the upgrade to Thunderbird 12 :(
Any chance we can have an updated version soon?
Glad to see an old friend is active again (the add-on, not the dev). What I like the most about this one is the ability to install several dictionaries.
It's pretty good. I found it because I was reading an online textbook for school and i was sick of tabbing back and forth from google back to the material. Anyways, is there a way where you can skip opening another window just a smaller scrollable window pops up underneath the word so that you can read on with losing your place or train of thought? Basically highlight and right click define and whatever dictionary website you currently have supporting the add-on could still be in the heading. It would be cool to be able to read and then when you come to the word you don't know you can simply work the definition into the rest of the sentence from the small pop up screen
This is one of my favorite addons simply because it allows me the option to add customizable searches. So now I can make a selection and not only search dictionary within a quick and simple right-click, but search engines, shopping sites, etc
The best addons for a quick word look-up in any web dictionary (such as http://lingvopro.abbyyonline.com/ru) search engine etc. (specially those do not have own addons)( Thanks a lot! Sadly the Updates for new FirerVoxes lag behind, but thanks to rathalos420 who made the update you can use it now with Firefox 9 ( https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/user/2241375/ ) Many thanks too!
I've posted an updated version (working with Firefox 9) here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dictionarysearchupdated/
I'll try to push updates within a day or so of new stable releases of Firefox. Many thanks to the original author.
Great addon. This works with Firefox 9:
Very simple addon and to the point. I knew tfd.com from this addon.
I've been searching for this for months, and the main reason I couldn't find it was because I didn't even use it for a dictionary, but other search engines, which is something it does better and faster than the leading addons in that category. It's the only one I know of that lets you put them in the very first context menu layer, and not in a sub-menu for faster access. Also no extra hassle with downloading search engine toolbars, like many require you to do. It does currently work on latest stable version of Firefox for me with no problems, i can't confirm for betas.
The only suggestions I would give would be picture icons next to each search but it's no big deal, room for more slots of course which i'm sure everyone wants, and change tags or whatever on this site so it pops up more often so other scan discover it(not sure how this works). thanks for one of the most simple and useful addons i've seen
Please and please try to shorten the tome to release a new revision to work with latest Firefox.
Please don't let your fans wait to long!
