Doesn't do anything. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Path is set correctly, nothing shows up there. Asked it to prompt me for a path, nothing happened.

Does only one very useful thing, but does it very well. I've been using it for years, including the period when it was not supposed to work (used nightly tester tools to "cheat"). One of my two favorite extensions.
Many thanks to the author!

deskCut 0.6.0.3 Stopped working properly Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I absolutely LOVE deskCut. That's why I'm so bummed out now that it
does not work as it should anymore. I noticed I was not receiving the 'prompt for file path' since the upgrade to FF 35.0.
I know, I know this is NOT the proper place to post bugs. However, I followed the directions and tried to find the deskCut support contact info. It basically doesn't exist - at least I couldn't find it.

Finally! Where has this add-on been my whole life? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thank you very, very much! I file many of my bookmarks alongside the rest of my files in regular system folders, and making new bookmarks on-the-fly has always been a multi-step pain in my brain. Every time I would make a new bookmark, I would tell myself that there has got to be a better way, and now there is. Thank you for deskCuts, Evan Eveland! What a relief!

Thanks MIKE!!! Great Tip!!! Add-on now working on Win7(64x) - Awesome Add-On. Absolutely necessary to fully integrate with windows!

This IS a great Addon! Thank you Evan. HOWEVER: As per by Mike on July 19, 2013 review it would not work for me until his tip of clicking "FIND" was done. WTG Mike!

Great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have it working great on FF 22 running on Win 7. What I had to do to get it to work though was go to the deskCut options, select the Path menu and click "Find" even though there was already a path displayed. I hope this helps those of you having issues!

Thanks again to Evan Eveland, for this wonderful extension that worked so well in past versions. However, it's broken now, at least in FF21 on Windows 7, 64-bit.

Thanks to developer that he was willing to spend his time during the years on this excellent add on. However, recently it is not working at all. Win 7 64bit.

As other people have pointed out, you should be able to get it to work by going into your Add-ons, selecting Options, going to the Path tab, and telling it to Find the path.

Worked for me.

More Useful Than Ever! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Sorry to see people are having problems. I've had deskCut for years and it is still working great on my XP system. In fact, it's more indispensable for me than ever, given that starting with version 17 Mozilla screwed up FF for XP users such that webpage icons creating by dragging have an ugly and inappropriate generic Windows symbol instead of a FF symbol. But the icons created with deskCut still have a FF symbol as they should. Thanks, deskCut!

Not working on Macs either Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I used to rely on this function heavily. It doesn't do anything anymore. There is no support section to report its failure. I don't know what happened. I hope they fix it soon. I run mine on a Macbook Pro OSX 10.7.5, so the failure isn't OS specific. I have had no recent Firefox or OS updates either.

Not working anymore Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I'm having the same problem on XP. The "Create deskcut" option is there in the right-click context menu but it doesn't work. I click it but nothing is added to my desktop. I also have "prompt for filename" checked in options and it's not doing that either. It worked great until recently so it must be an update glitch.

I also tried to reach the developer but I was surprised to find that they don't really have a place to report bugs. What really amazes me is that no one else has come up with anything similar. Deskcut is the only add-on that duplicates Intenet Explorer's right-click context menu option to "add shortcut" to desktop. There's nothing else out there that comes close and I'm dumbfounded by that.

Well, hopefully the Deskcut developer is checking these reviews regularly and will get it fixed.

No instuctions for setup in Ubuntu Rated 1 out of 5 stars

No instructions provided for Linux. It appears to install OK as it shows up in the right-click menu. But it does not appear to create anything. No setup instructions provided for how to even get to the options, let alone how to configure it.

Windows 8? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I installed deskCut, but sadly, the shortcuts it creates when I am using Windows 8 open up with Internet Explorer. Any idea what it is up? Thanks!

Great extension.

However I found a couple of annoyances:
- If "prompt for filename" is checked, and the filename dialog is canceled or closed, it creates a shorcut with blank name instead of canceling the whole shortcut creation process... I think it should cancel, and only create the blank name shortcut after OK with the filename field empty (as also actually do).
- If the filename dialog is horizontally expanded, the filename field is not expanded with it.

Also I suggest to add an autohiding notification bar https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/XUL/notificationbox as an intermediate attention requesting alert between the alert dialog box, and the absence of alerts.
Last, I've sent a locale to the email adress you show in http://deskcut.mozdev.org for you to add it.

This doesn't work for me on FF 14.0.1. Everytime I try it, I get an error popup that says something like "Bad things happened: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsILocalFile.create]" nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://deskcut/content/deskcut.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 478" data: no]"

Any idea where it's trying to create the shortcut to? There are some old issues regarding preferences and it not picking up the desktop path on the initial run until you click 'Find Path' under the preferences....

Thank goodness somebody made this! Firefox/Gnome/Nautilus have been unable to reliably drag-and-drop Awesome Bar icons into Nautilus to create .desktop files since around Firefox 6, so this saves me from having to create .desktop files manually.

The only issue with this is the handling of the rememberLast preference in browseForPath() - it throws NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH errors in the Error Console until you've toggled the Remember Last preference on/off in the Addons/deskCut/Preferences GUI.

Ive been using IE on a daily basis since 1996. In 2012 I switched to FF but missed the ability to easily create shortcuts. deskCut works great after you configure the destination folder (even if its your desktop). Now I can use Mozilla full time. Thanks for creating this!
