I am very glad to b able to have a black back-gound.
I noticed though, on my Gmail account for example, that I do not see everything. On the top right, the little weel for setting has become invisible. I wonder how to have it visible, and still keep the black back ground. (i wonder now if there are things on the other pages that have also become invisible) . Thank you
click the button in my toolbar..... annnnnddddddd nothing
It needs a update soon...
ssss not work
I installed this, made sure it was enabled, restarted firefox, and tried ctrl_alt_b, tried the little A button, and the button when you right click, and still my backgrounds are white.
I emailed the author and he said this add-on is discontinued. It clearly doesn't work for Firefox 37. Too bad, it worked great and was easy to use before that. He said it's up for adoption if anyone wants it.
Hovering over the button, it does not change appearance, but does show the balloon message. Clicking the button does nothing. Ctrl+alt+b does nothing except change the text color on SOME web pages (not all). Right-click context menu has the same effect as Ctrl+alt+b above. -- Tried un/reinstalling, no help. Tried restarting Firefox, no help. I ADORE this add-on, so please help! (PS - Also emailed support...) Thanks, and will update review to 5 stars if fixed.
Works excellent but in some areas I can't see some icons without turning off the app and view everything at a normal state (I almost didn't accept a colleague request on Linkedin because I couldn't actually see the the accept or decline). It would be great if there was a dim feature which gives users the ability to darken the page.
Have to agree with the last post by Mark... this add-on is so close to being perfect. I used to have 20/10 vision (no exaggeration), but after two decades+ of working with computers and not taking precautions, I find myself with Blepharitus and am now near-sighted. I've tried more of these things than I can count on Fox and Chrome... with the exception of a couple fixable bugs, this thing is an eye-saver.
For one, once you select dark, it stays dark for all sites... looks crisp, clear, and easy to read. There are none of the "deal-breakers" that I've found with the others, such as a bright white flash for 1-3 seconds, as the page loads.
(1) The most important bug that needs fixed, hopefully soon... is that it blacks out input boxes. This is serious enough of an issue that it makes the add-on unusable for some sites.
(2) The other bug found, which is "not" a big deal, is that it over-rides pages/themes that are already black... Doing a quick check of the current background color, before implementing itself, should be an easy fix for that.
My eyes thank you for this strain-relieving extension.
Works great.. but I can't see my texts on google (or bing) search bar. Otherwise great indeed.
It works perfectly! Korwin instead of saying it's not compatible with 28.0, simply update Firefox!
However it would be excellent if users could choose which background and front colors they want.
Hello every one
I'm really interested in continue development of this add on because I need it too , I'm an professional indie games programer & developer and newbie to Mozilla add-on development!
Can any body say how I can access the codes or files of this add-on to make it better?
Abandoned by Developer
I emailed the developer with a problem, and he promptly replied to say that he doesn't actively maintain the addon, or even use it.
Perhaps someone can pickup this addon and continue to develop it?
Why don't you give a user choice to choose bkgrnd/fron color by himself ?
Obviously its not normal for the human eyes to be blinded by direct radiation from an artificial intence source at night.. I always looked for somethign that can mitigate the damage :-)
Black is too dark and white is too bright. Could you add a medium gray color and think it would be perfect .
Many white background with white text can not be read, the gray would be the solution.
Thanks for your addon
WARNING! Does NOT auto-detect sites with already dark backgrounds, making them all but impossible to use!
It can also take several seconds to switch through the selections, making it very easy to cycle through the one you want.
Other than that, it works great. It's simple, and it does it's job well. A little too well at times, perhaps, but better than not well enough,
There are a few ways to improve this, though. A background auto-detect function would be best, but being able to tell it what sites to not work on would do.
A double-sided button that shows the two option that are not currently selected, and allows the user to select which of the two you want to use would also be awesome.
What also would be awesome would be the ability to customize the text colors.
Does not work, it says "not compatible with ff 27"
Works (almost always) for me. Cool.
after trying it out and loving it, decided it has some drawbacks. i hate to click twice to go back to normal view. i dont like an entry in my right-click context menu. not bad but prefer "color-toggle" add on now. does the same thing as this one but seems better.
Exactly what I was looking for. It works very well for most sites but it does make transparent grey elements such as the stars on this review page invisible.
Nothing appears in my context menu and the shortcut doesn't work. There is also no "A" icon in the addons toolbar. Seems not to be working on Firefox 26.0, at least on my OSX Lion (10.7.4). That's really a pity, it looked great as of the description!
Edit on the reply: Thanks for your support, I increased rating for your interest in the matter. I checked Tools->Add ons->Extenstions as you told me, no error is signaled there. As for the Add-ons Manager the extension seems to work correctly (no incompatibility message appears) but never the less, the shortcut (Control+Alt+b) doesn't work, and there is no "A" button to press. Even though I have little experience in Firefox Extensions I am a programmer, if I can help in something, let me know.
A good start, but as noted by others some colors don't show up making buttons and borders disappear. This makes things once again harder to read, so not necessarily benefit over the white background. What would be nice is being able to customize the coloring per domain to address this - or not conflict with other schemes like the dark Google add-on which are crafted to work for a particular domain.
