  • pls update for tb5
  • Many 'old' addons CAN work in FF 4, except that their configuration file explicitly states that its "maxVersion" (the highest level of compatibility) is less than 4. Something like "3.6*" or "3.*". The instructions below tell you how to extract this file from the .xpi package, edit it in a text editor, and reinsert it into the package. Then you simply hit Ctrl-O to Open a file, then select your newly-modified .xpi file, and that's it.

I tried it with CuteMenus and it works great! My only advice is that you change the version NOT to 4.0*, but to 4.* (otherwise, if this addon isn't updated before version 4.1 of FF comes out, it will stop working when you upgrade).

If there are other non-updated addons you want to try with this, just remember that some plugins still won't work, because deep down they really are incompatible; but most ARE compatible except for the small technical detail that this fix corrects.
  • Hey mrtech !

Will You be so kind and up-date this fine add-ons so it work on Firefox 4 ?

5 Stars - When it worked on all the other Firefox - Before No. 4

10 Stars, when it also work on Firefox 4 !!!

I miss the icons on Firefox menu line !

    Greetings Jørn Rudolph
  • Please, update expansion to 4.0 versions of the browser!
  • "It works in ALL LANGUAGES and is frequently updated"

that bit made me laugh, as this is a dead project. i wouldnt recommend it anyway because if you have alot of addons installed you will see how it causes conflicts with other addons, such as missing icons, missing text, and corrupt options windows. if the glitches ever get fixed i can offer a better rating
  • an essential but not interactive as Cutebuttons by the same author. Cutebottons animates icons, nice!
  • Thunderbird 3.17 will not allow it to be installed - says it's not compatible. What's up? Has development stopped?
  • Tried all sorts to try and get this to work in 4.0b4.
In the end I just went for Nuvola{1.9.3} which puts some nice icons in the menus and bookmarks.

  • Doesn't want to play games in 4.0b3 either, obviously after modifying the max value
  • This worked with 4.0b1 but stopped working when I upgraded to 4.0b2.

Compatibility reporter won't let me submit a revised report.

  • Does exactly what it says, and also works flawlessly with my current version of the Fox - 3.6.6. Thanks so much for this wonderful add-on!

  • Best of all!
  • Does not work properly with Thuunderbird v3 (Final)

  • Unfortunately I cannot find anything helpful on your homepage. The link is being redirected to http://www.ndparking.com/serve.php?lid=538167&dn=cutemenuproject.com&kw=download+firefox&fn=7067950375
And there I can only find sponsored links, but no help for this extension.
So: how can I add missing icons, where do I find explanation for the settings options?
  • ... and it would be great if the colours of the tags would be displayed correctly (in the list where you add them).
  • Causes problems when installed together with QuickFolders. The tabs of QuickFolders are not displayed correctly when QuickFolders' "Flat Style" is activated. That was a problem in TB2 and still is in TB3 (use the workaround in TB3).

Remark: On http://www.cutemenuproject.com/ I really could not figure out where to place a comment.

I like CuteMenus - Crystal SVG VERY MUCH - both in FF and TB. Tank you! Keep going!
  • works great in TB 3.0.1 but you need to change the max installation value in install.rdf from "3.0a2pre" to "3.0.1" for Thunderbird.

    Howto do it:
1: Rename from .xpi to .zip
    2: extract to a folder
    3: edit extracted install.rdf
    -> search "3.0a2pre" and replace with "3.0.*"
    4: Save
5: Zip everything up again (ensure same solder structure)
6: rename from .zip to .xpi
7: drag your new xpi into the add-ons window of Thunderbird 3.0.1
    hope this helps

4 stars since a bunch of Icons are missing, otherwise great add-on
  • Excellent Add-on. Unfortunately it does not work on Thunderbird 3. Hopefully it will be updated soon.
  • I'm sure some people have noticed that if you set this extension to use icons on the menu bar, both the history and bookmark menus lack an icon in newer versions of Fx. This is relatively simple to fix:

    1) Close Firefox and browse to the extension's installation directory (e.g. /xz0umu7i.default/extensions/{63df8e21-711c-4074-a257-b065cadc28d8})

    2) Open the chrome folder, and open "cutemenus.jar". In this archive navigate to "/skin/classic/crystal/" and open "icon-menubar.css"

    3) Under /*Firefox*/ change:
    "menu#go-menu" to "menu#history-menu" and
    "menu#bookmarks-menu" to "menu#bookmarksMenu"

    4) Save and close the file. Now, back in the jar archive, return to the root directory and browse to /content/cutemenus/res/ and open "mosaic.css"

5i) Search for "menu#bookmarks-menu" and change it to "menu#bookmarksMenu"

5ii) Search for "menu#go-menu" and change it to "menu#history-menu"

    6) Save the file and start Fx up, the icons will now be visible when you set the extension options to display them.

    -----
If you can't get it to work, then here's my fully working cutemenus.jar. Just replace your existing cutemenus.jar file with this one.

  • I am wanting to add some missing icons, anyone know a program that I can edit and add a few missing icons?
  • 1) Open URL addons.mozilla.org/ru/firefox/addon/1330 in Internet Explorer
    2) Download plugin
    3) Extact files from XPI-file in folder (open with WinRAR)
    4) Open install.rdf (with Notepad)
    5) Find words
    6) Change parameter (3.0 -> 10.0)
    7) File -> Save (Ctrl+S) and close Notepad
    8) Select all files in folder -> Right click mouse on any file -> Send -> ZIP-folder
    9) Change file extention (.zip -> .xpi)
    10) Drag & Drop this file in Firefox Menu Plugin
    11) Restart Firefox
    12) Enjoy icons!
