customVid 0.7.6 Requires Restart
customVid is yet another video extension
It's a work in progress extension, which let's you invoke mplayer (or other suitable players) to play a video on a video site, e.g. youtube
This add-on has been marked as experimental by its developers
This add-on is not compatible with your version of Firefox because of the following:
About this Add-on
* You have no Flash plugin available for your platform
* You don't like Flash
* You're using NoScript and don't want to unblock video sites
and you still want to be able to watch videos on certain video sites.
Why does this extension exist:
I'm using Firefox on FreeBSD with vimperator and NoScript. Due to a lack of a native Flash plugin and not wanting to whitelist sites like youtube in NoScript, I searched for a solution that let's me easily watch videos.
The 0.7.0 release was the result of a major code refactoring/clean up.
There might be new bugs and the embedding of videos (see preferences) was not tested by me (lack of the mplayer-plugin on FreeBSD).
If you find any bugs or something doesn't work right for you, please report it here:
Regarding ext2's comment:
Sorry, i can't test this addon on MacOS and I'm happy for any help for making it work on that platform.
It seems that Berlios changed some URLs, however the link above should still work!
(Edit: Support page at http://developer.berlios.de/support/?group_id=10913 working again as well)
