Custom Google Search 1.1.2
Create and use your own Google Custom Search Engines right within Firefox. You decide which websites to remove and which to boost. Add refinements that rewrite or redirect your searches with a single click and integrate other search sites with Google
About this Add-on
Once you create these engines you decide which websites are covered and which not, how they rank and so on. If you don't change anything, your Google Custom Search Engine will be more or less a normal Google Search.
You can integrate your own favourite search engines into Google using customizable refinements - so, if you would for example like to search craigslist from within google with just a single click, go ahead and integrate it if you wish so.
Another new option is to add rewrite refinement labels - these can for example be used to exclude all shopping related searchterms from a search - with a single click from your Google Custom Search results.
Once created, the Google Custom Search Engines can be used by anyone - no login required. They can easily be integrated into your own website or blog.
This is an inofficial Addon. It is neither provided nor endorsed by Google. Google Custom Search is a service officially provided by Google which allows anyone to create customized Google Search Engines.
If you encounter bugs, please report them to the Support Email address instead of writing angry comments. The same is true if you have any suggestions on how to improve this extension.
- Google Custom Search Engines are not neccessarily enhanced by other Google-Enhancing Firefox Addons
- The "options" link provided by Google in the latest version of it's search engine is not included in Custom Search Engines (yet).
- A Google Account is not required anymore, Custom Search Engines can be stored anonymously on quicksear.ch (new default)
- Add Refinement Links to your Search Engine
- Search Redirects (Search other search engines or webites like Wikipedia)
- Search Rewrites - For example, exclude words related to online shopping from your query
Many enhancements in the user interface of the Custom Search Engines. They look much more like normal
Google Search results now
- Has been extensively tested with Firefox 3.6
This add-on is not compatible with your version of Firefox because of the following:
To create your own collections, you must have a Mozilla Add-ons account.
The Google Custom Search Engine Definiton - that is, the definition which sites to search and how to rank pages - can be hosted by Google itself (so called "hosted CSE") or by the third party website quicksear.ch (so called "linked CSE") which provides this as an anonymous service. For a Google hosted CSE, a personal Google Account is required.
For linked Google Custom Search Engine Definitions hosted by quicksear.ch, no registration is required at all. For this reason, quicksear.ch is used by default in this latest version of the Custom Google Search extension.
It is technically impossible to provide a linked custom google search engine without making the associated search engine definition available publicly on the internet. So everyone who knows your search engine link can actually retrieve your search engine definition. Technically, there is no way around this. If you want to keep its definition private, you should choose a Google hosted CSE.
quicksear.ch is an anonymous service it does not require you to provide information which allows to identify you, such as your name.
quicksear.ch stores only the information required to provide the service, and will use it only to provide the service - the stored information will never be sold to third parties or used for personalized marketing purposes or alike.
The Google Custom Search results are provided directly by Google - quicksear.ch stores only the customization information you provide.
Search requests going to a quicksear.ch hosted Custom Search Engine are routed through a quicksear.ch server. This is done in order to ensure that the latest version of the custom search engine definition file gets used, so that updates to the Custom Search Engine can be seen immediately. Without this, changes would only become active once google dismisses the cached version of the linked CSE. quicksear.ch does not store search terms that have been searched for, nor any other personally identifiable information about any searches you make.
If you do not like to use quicksear.ch, you are still free to use Google hosted Custom Search Engines.
