Though is't a great essential addon it stopped working in FF35.0.

Conflict?

Are you by chance using Menu Editor or Menu Wizard with the add-on? If so, see https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/copy-link-text-4750/reviews/#review-657778 about how either these add-ons or Firefox will need to fix something, as my add-on is using the recommended approach.

One of the "essentials"! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is one of those extensions that ought to be built into Firefox. It's absolutely essential, since copying link text is a nightmare without it.

Unfortunately, as of FF 34, Copy Link Text has a conflict with Menu Editor, another essential extension, as far as I'm concerned! As long as Menu Editor is enabled, Copy Link Text doesn't show up in any of the menus.

I hope this gets fixed soon. I rely on both of these extensions, and I'm not sure I can choose which one to live without!

There doesn't seem to be any way to contact the author other than through these reviews. The support site is GitHub, which seems to be more a developer resource than a support request resource, but I'm not sure. Is there a way to post there?

Regardless, download and install this extension! All the cool kids are using it! :-D

Known issue

Thanks for your review. I've submitted a bug report now to https://www.mozdev.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=25919 , and we'll see whether it is something Menu Editor can fix, as it indeed must be something on their end because my new version is using the recommended approach for adding context menu items (using the "Add-ons SDK" which allows the new version to be restartless). If it is not possible for them to fix (because of an issue with the way the SDK adds the items), then we can go from here to report the issue to Firefox. If you wish to keep informed of how that bug is going, you can add your email to the "Add cc" field. FYI, the program Menu Wizard also has an issue (one apparently simply cannot move Copy Link Text though it still works). Discussing with Mozilla at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=873235 and with Menu Wizard creator at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=2828771&p=13932245#p13932245

very useful, but chokes 34 Beta Rated 5 out of 5 stars

update, sorry, I continued testing and it appears the Track-Me-Not extensions is the culprit. Right now your extension is causing me no problems, just added the useful capability it's intended for . Thanks!
===was===
After lengthy process of elimination, enabling and disabling many plug-ins one at a time, it appears this plug-in is the source of problems I've been having for while. Firefox doesn't close normally and uses excess memory. Many actions get very slow when it running. As soon as I disable it, everything is fine. Closes normally, restarts normally. Maybe it doesn't play nice with one of my other plug-ins, don't know. I do know this is the only one that I've been able to identify that causes the problem all by itself.
I have used this for a long time and find it very useful. I hope it doesn't take too much effort to troubleshoot.

Menu editor?

I assume you are using the latest version, right? Are you using a menu editing program? Some users have reported problems with them together (although not a memory problem). My add-on is rather light in terms of what it does, and it is now using the best practice of relying on Firefox's Add-on SDK (for restartless ability) as well.

Great but does not work with Menu Editor Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a great add-on, it is simple and just works. I consider it to be essential as I use it quite often.

However, for whatever reason, the option in the context menu no longer appears when you are also using the "Menu Editor" add-on. In the end, I kept this add-on and disabled the other.

Nice extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Would you like to have it translated in Italian?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.6.3).

Sure

Sure! Looks like you're already underway (assuming the BZ site gives you no trouble and my update today there was ok--not sure whether there were any changes since my previous version already on BZ but you may want to take a look to be sure). Thanks!

Hugely useful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This add-on saves from having to manually highlight then manually copy a link name. You just right click the link and copy the link name to clipboard. No highlighting required. Only change I'd like to see is change the underlined character. It prevents using "T" to open in new link from keyboard, i.e. the default underlined "T" in Firefox's context menu. Slight annoyance, especially if a page has multiple links I want to open in new tab. 5-star if can change the character.

Thanks for your responsiveness. Looking forward to the new version!!!

Customizable accesskey support added

Hi, I've added customizable support to the prefs now for the version just uploaded. You can wait for Mozilla to approve (probably within a couple days), or it is version 1.7.0 (or higher if I add any later ones) if you want to go to "Version Information" and upgrade now. However, I'm sorry that no accesskey will be present at all unless you are using the latest Firefox 35+ because of how restartless add-ons work (I've made the add-on restartless now too). If you absolutely need the accesskey now with an older FF version, you can go back to 1.5.3.

Cool! And this addon without adware (like Copy Link Name now).

Wish it was Restartless Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A very useful add-in, but if it could be installed without restarting Firefox, it would be perfect.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.3).

In the works

The restartless add-on framework doesn't yet allow all of the functionality of regular add-ons as far as context menus (e.g., they don't work with keyboard commands), but I've brought this to the attention of Mozilla, and may work with them as time permits to fix. Thanks for the feedback!

Works Great, but it would be awesome if I could copy the Relative Link Location as well.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.3).

Relevance

While I am happy to take feature requests, I would have expected a higher rating if you say it works great, and when the add-on does what it claims to do (and when your feature is really probably more suitable as a separate add-on since this is Copy Link _Text_). But that is a good idea, and something I may keep in mind.

without alt text Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Hello. I use this add-on a lot, but I do not need the "alt" text after the link text which sometimes really annoys me. I could not find a option for that. After unzip your xpi, I changed the code by just commenting the alt part of your overlay.js file. Could you update this feature or offer a option without "alt text" ? Thanks. I can send you my modification. Or if you do not agree with this feature, can I submit this add-on based on your code on this add-on platform? I am looking forward to your official update. Thanks again.

Already in works

I've already made a new (restartless) version of copy text which is awaiting approval of some patches I sent to Mozilla (to ensure people can still use the accesskey via the new SDK APIs) and that new version addresses your request by avoiding the alt text inclusion by default (while still keeping it as an optional preference). The pull request I am still waiting on is https://github.com/mozilla/addon-sdk/pull/723/ . (I am still getting over a cold or I would have already submitted a test for the patch...)

question on difference? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

hi: i could not find a way to contact you. you website does not have any email or any contact link.

I have not installed your add-on yet. But from your blurb I could not see difference.
>what is difference between the options in context menu.
>copy link location (standard ffox)
>copy link text (your addon)???

-----
i wanted an addon that allows me to use option key (or cmd key) and click on link, and it grabs the link location.i looked thru your add-ons and the ones you use, and saw nothing like this.seen anything?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.3).

Explanation

Hello Sea, Did you try either option? My addon lets you right-click to copy the text of the link. For example, if the link says "Go to Yahoo", it will copy "Go to Yahoo" to the clipboard instead of "http://www.yahoo.com". "Copy link location" already does what you want it to do (e.g., it would grab "http://www.yahoo.com"), though not through the exact way you wanted. But I think "copy link location" should work just as well; click on it or use your arrow keys to get to it once the menu is open. You can also use the letter underlined within the menu item's text to jump directly to that item...in this case you can type "a" to go directly to "Copy link location" as the letter "a" is underlined in that text (though you may need to click "a" multiple times if you have installed other context menu addons which also use "a" as their access key).

Unfortunately, as others have said, Copy Link Text has stopped working with the latest FF updates.

This is a great little add-on, and we would love to see it updated and working again.
