About this Add-on
Thanks to a user request I have created a separate extension with just the CookieSafe Import/Export feature: Cookie Import/Export
CookieSafe does not work with Firefox 36+
Dear user,
as of you probably have noticed CookieSafe DOES NOT WORK in Firefox 36+! I had a look at it and it looks like it will take a non-trivial effort to fix it, but that is not the actual problem... Back in 2011 I started fixing up CookieSafe for Firefox 4: It had originally been developed by a guy named Ron Beckman and had already been abandoned for at least two years at the time. From 2011 to 2013 I tried to refactor and modernize the code; needless to say that I haven't been terribly successful: It had been the first time I did such a thing and I focused on the wrong things, rewrote working things and probably did more harm than good. Some things I fixed, but many of the big tasks still remain and what's worse: A lot of stuff I wrote wasn't an improvement in long-term maintainability and now breaks just as much as the original code from 2009! Meanwhile you're still downloading a broken polyfill cookie storage engine for Thunderbird 2 with the latest version... Having written a new (2014+) add-on from scratch in the meantime I am now convinced that refactoring all of the current code and bringing it up-to-speed with the latest technologies would be more effort than rewriting the entire thing. (To be honest: I was pretty surprised that CookieSafe worked up to Firefox 25!)
So who is going to fix it? I personally don't see the point of writing yet another cookie manager and have I have moved on in 2014 to Cookie Monster. For current users I would recommend the updated CookieSafe Lite version that looks and feels almost identical to the 3.0.5 version of CookieSafe, but seems to have done at least some of the required clean-ups. There is also Cookie Controller if you want to try that instead... I realize that these alternatives are different than what you are used to and apologize for any convenience, but if there is some feature from CookieSafe you require and that isn't provided by any other add-on tell me and I'll try to migrate that part of CookieSafe into a separate add-on!
With best regards,
Alexander Schlarb
Your CookieSafe maintainer 2011-2013
PS: If anybody really fells that he must continue to keep the original CookieSafe alive: Feel free to download the latest XPI and unzip it (there is no build process), once you're done create a new add-on on this site and tell me. I'll add a prominent link to your version above this text!
