It'd be great if not for a critical flaw Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I've tried to get color toggle to allow conventional black text/white background alternating with grey background/white text but...

There's this little catch that [apparently] nobody has noticed so far. If you use a reversed [brighter text/darker field] color scheme, it often hides some critical screen elements.
Example: the Add-On's Add Review page I'm typing into at this moment- if you use color toggle to bright text/dark screen it, the critical Rating [click on # of stars] icons disappear, making it unusable.
That's the gotcha. I've toyed with all possible variations [#1 profile reversed, vs. #2 reversed, etc.] but...

If you use dark Windows themes this is an essential eye-saver Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Just what I needed. I would rather have something that modifies all white backgrounds only, but for now this will do. I like the fact that I can simply click a button to turn default styles back on when I can't see background images. Firefox 24: I use this version because 27 breaks too many things. This is a good example.

(Alternative: "I hate white" userscript -- works 50% of the time. If anyone knows of another please post it.) (Alternative2: The "Toolbar buttons" extension has a Toggle colours button.) No idea if Firefox 27 is compatible. Sorry.

Doesn't work on 27.0.1 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This doesn't work on 27.0.1. I also can't get one other to work. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.

just what i was looking for Rated 5 out of 5 stars

i wanted a SIMPLE, LIGHTWEIGHT, and SNAPPY way of switching between "normal" web view and a dark "night time" style view. 1 click does it! nice job.

hides text when typing in google and alot of other webpages Rated 2 out of 5 stars

the biggest problem with this is that it hides text in google so you cant see what youre typing, it also hides text on alot of other webpages and also hides buttons and formatting on
i have to turn it off for at least half the webpages i use to see what im doing, typing or the page formatting, not good but i continue to use it as its quite quick to turn on and off.

Tiny, honey and nice addon Rated 5 out of 5 stars

But I have few proposals.
1. The checkbox "Let pages override these settings" actually switches off this profile and we can switch between original and only one profile. It would be better to take off this checkbox from options and add to toggling:
Profile1 -> Original -> Profile2 -> Original.
Now we can have dinamically 2 profiles and switch among them.
2. The second proposal is more complex, but more attractive.
To allow to use wallpaper as background (sic!)
I understand, that it is impossible to choose one forground text color for such "mixed" background. But!!! When I highliht some portion of text it gets its "private" background (individually for highlighted portion of text). So, if it is possible to define color for "dedicated for text" background such text will be readable.
If it is possible to have customisable opacity for such "dedicated for text" background, it will not fully hide the wallpaper and simultaneously will allow to read the text.
3. The third proposal is relatively easy. Let assume, that the addon doesn't have two separate parts for profile settings in option menu. It will have only one set of settings, but will include small input field, where user can give a name for chosen setting scheme and save this scheme by this name.
By such way user can have unlimited set of profiles that can be randomly chosen by hot key toggling or CT toggler button in addon bar.
Of course, user should be able to remove some profiles or (in addition) to make them inactive (i.e. they will not participate in random choose).
Such addon will revolve the browser - it will add some "unexpectation" surprising.
Thank you

Always Worked For Me:) Simple Capable Customizable Effective Addon... Its annoying when websites are using a dark background with dark font or a light background with a light colored font... or crazy color combo's that also strain the eyes. Just click to toggle your custom set colors (easy to cutomize), toggle again to restore the page to the original color set. I love this addon!

i think it had a conflict with some other add on, as i had many of them with same functionality, i removed others and now its ok.
or may be the windows high contrast theme was the problem, Firefox has some prob when i use high contrast theme, even without this add-on i was not able to switch background colors and also many of Facebook thumbnails in albums were disabled (blackened)

Hi dharmendra.

I am using Firefox 14.0.1 on Linux and it works fine.

Please send me an email at and let me know exactly what you're running and what's not working, and I'll see if I can help.

It Works. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It works for me in FF 11.0. Thanks for this. Although the hot key doesn't work. As configured - Ctrl/Shift/u - it simply reloads the page. Reconfigured it does nothing. Clicking on the CT button is the only way to make it work. I would also like to put the button somewhere else, would that be possible?

As it should be. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The add-on seems to be working just great with my FF 8. Good job!

Great Handy Idea But Buggy Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Saves immeasurable hours in switching back and forth from the Options menu to get a color scheme my eyes can tolerate, however...

I'm running Windows Home Premium 7, and this Add-on has a frequent tendency to loose its saved settings.

Please check into the possible causes and make sure it is set to notify of updates.

I'm sorry you're experiencing a problem. Color Toggle uses Firefox's own settings mechanism to store all its preferences. If you are experiencing a problem with losing saved settings, I believe it is a Firefox problem rather than an extension problem. I have never experienced the issue you describe.

If you have any more information about the issue you describe you are welcome to file a bug at the Google code site (, but I suspect there's nothing I can do on my end to fix the problem.

ESSENTIAL Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This add-on is right up there with Adblock Plus as my first and immediate installs. Too much of the web is blinding, headache inducing, white backgrounds. Thank you so much for this add-on. I've been using it a long time but never rated or reviewed.

Before using this, I manually changed the colors in FF. I even made a macro to do it quicker. This add-on is much more convenient than what I was doing.

You are a god! Light is a migraine trigger for me and being able to click the little toggle button to go from bright white to a muted grey color scheme is a beautiful thing. Something so simple has had a big impact for me. Thanks!
