Extremely cool! We actually did some js-ctypes for windows and osx specific text to speech:
windows - https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/js-ctypes/Examples/Using_COM_from_js-ctypes
mac os x - https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/js-ctypes/Examples/Using_Objective-C_from_js-ctypes

So this is real cool you find a method for linux too.

We are also working on an addon to bring speech-to-text ability here: https://github.com/Noitidart/FoxSpeak/issues/1

The Mysterious Missing Vowels Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This is the best text to speech add-on for Firefox, I need it because my Mac's voice reader frequently refuses to read articles on Yahoo. I've tried every other text to speech reader add-on and they all have problems so, this one is the best of the worst.

The robotic voice is not natural sounding at all and to make it worse, if a word ends in a vowel, it skips that vowel sound. So a word like 'scuba' becomes 'scub'.

But despite those problems, it's still the best voice reader because the others have even worse problems.

Sounds like rubbish Rated 2 out of 5 stars

It sounds like a Robot talking under water, using a mic plugged into a metal bands distortion pedal

Opzioni Nessun settaggio per voci TTS / Option no setting for TTS Voices Rated 1 out of 5 stars

(ITA) Nelle opzioni di questo plugin non posso impostare le voci TTS (sapi5) che ho sul mio computer. Questo lo rende inutilizzabile. Se puoi correggere questo sarebbe ottimo.

(ENG) In the options of this plugin can not set the TTS (sapi5) voices that I have on my PC. This makes it unusable. If you can fix this would be great.

On selecting voices...

Unfortunately, Speak.js does not support SAPI voices. If I can figure out how to add support for SAPI using js-ctypes, I might add the option. As for Speak.js, I may be able to add some limited voice support when I get multi-language support working.
