Exactly what add-ons are all about - small, amazingly useful tool. Thanks a lot!
This add-on is the best when you like to watch movie series and you need to update the bookmark to track which movies you have watched. Thanks for making this add-on.
This one of the most often used addons and I really like it. I also could not find any other extensions which can do the same.
I read you want to rewrite the extension as a webextension, are you already working on that? Then it can also be used in firefox for android (see https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2017/05/18/compatibility-update-android/)
I like your addon but would like it a lot more if it worked on firefox mobile where i read most of the things your addon would be useful for.
Thanks for the request. I'll have to consider it after porting to WebExtensions (which is necessary for the future of this extension on Desktop Firefox). Firefox for Mobile would have to start supporting them first, though.
This works fine for me, and is a much needed replacement to the no longer developed "UpdateBookmark" Add-on.
NOTE: You update a bookmark by using the icon on your toolbar (added on install), not by right-clicking on the bookmark itself (the way UpdateBookmark worked).
as the title says, this no longer works. for whatever reason, the latest version is for a version of firefox that is not out yet. hopefully when it is, there will be no issue.
It is very useful, but would be amazing if you make an option for one click replace! Clicking the ok button every time is annoying...
Check out the Preferences, the option titled "If exactly one match, replace without prompt".
Хотелось бы еще возможность видеть адрес закладки при наведении курсора.
See the version 1.5.5.
Great Addon that is very useful and much needed for me. Simple and works well.
Webdeveloper is very prompt and helpful with any questions.
Thankyou very much for this Addon Webdeveloper!
Works perfectly. I can't believe I managed to follow several webcomics without having this little jewel to assist me. Great work.
You’d think this is what ‘bookmark’ would mean. The whole entire purpose of bookmarks outside the context of computers is to allow you to keep track of your running position in some piece of media. Kinda makes me angry at whatever programmer came up with calling a permanently-positioned placeholder a 'bookmark'.
Found this and it's just what I was after. Great for updating to the latest 'read' page on forums etc, with just a single click. Couldn't find anything similar on Chrome, so it's Firefox all the way for me now. Brilliant, many thanks!!
I like quick replace feature, especially when watching a sequence of videos on youtube. So i can watch from where i've stopped before.
I'd just like to have a better New Bookmark interface. Instead of expanding bookmarked folders every time, to find my prefered one the addon could just remember last folder used for saving new bookmark.
It's a click too many every time i try to bookmark something.
> the addon could just remember last folder used for saving new bookmark
Sorry, I can't find a straightforward way to do this. So this will probably never happen.
FWIW, here's the bug describing the reasons for the default behavior is as it is: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=232089
You can also try Add Bookmark Here 2: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/
It affects only the default Edit Bookmark panel, though, not the one used by this extension.
this addon is great for everybody who wants to update certain bookmarks regularly without having to delete the old ones.
This is especially useful if you read lots of webcomics or serial novels.
And the support is excellent, especially for a free piece of software thats written by a single guy!
Great addon. Works flawlessly.
Does what it says - I like it. Here's a suggestions: If the list of bookmarks contains only one result, then this bookmark should be updated without showing the list at all. That way I can mark the last page on a webcoming with a single click.Could you please make this available as an option?
update: awesome - thank you very much!
Added. See the version 1.5.0.
Updating bookmarks to things like the last-read-page of a webcomic was getting REALLY annoying, so this is AWESOME.
One thing that could make it even better [note this suggestion is all assuming you have "Keep the old name" checked by default].:
It would be really nice to be able to control which entry is automatically at the top of the list in the shift-alt-d "replace bookmark" window, because that entry is essentially the default (ie, you get it by just hitting enter).
If I could set it to be automatically alphabetized, I could just throw an "a" or whatever in front of the names of the bookmarks I update a LOT, and update them in just two strokes without having to think about selecting anything.
(btw, I was curious, so I played around with it a bit and discovered that the order now seems to be produced by the same mysterious process that orders bookmarks when I ctrl-shift-b to open the "library" window. I have no idea how THAT's determined, because it sure doesn't seem to be by any of the sorting options you can manually select [name, location, date added, etc].)
P.S. Add me to the list of people who agree this addon should be a default firefox feature. =D
The sorting function compares the bookmarks by the length of the biggest prefix common with the current URL, and in case it's the same, leaves those bookmarks sorted as they are in the Places database. By the time of creation, I guess.
So, this is great for some websites (like Fanfiction.net, where the story identifier is in the URL, and comes before the chapter number), and useless for others, like Youtube (URLs have random identifiers).
So, doing alphabetic sorting by default does not fit this scheme, but I can be persuaded to add special sorting functions for specific domains. For Youtube, for example, it will compare page titles instead of URLs.
Simple, functional, no restart required, and it scratches an itch I've had for years, ever since I went from Avant browser to Firefox (the "update bookmark" and "bookmark sync" were what kept me from switching for a long time).
I'm so glad to have this functionality available to me again, and I agree with the others that this (or something like it) should be a default feature of Firefox.
Thank you for this!
Works great, makes following web comics, etc. so easy.
Only request: it should remember whether I've checked the 'overwrite title' option between sessions. Generally I don't want to overwrite the tittle and having to recheck this each time is a pain. But oh so worth it compared to how things functioned before this extension!
Like you can see in one of replies below, there's an option to make the "keep title" checkbox default to true. Version 1.4.2 gets a settings page, so you can easily find it there.
Keeping track of its state between sessions is incompatible with what is being done now: saving the checkbox state separately for each bookmark the extension touched.
Nice addon. Thank you for making it.
However, "Replace Bookmark" option does not show up when someone is not hiding Menu bar and is using Bookmarks dropdown menu. User is then forced to drag the "Replace Bookmark" button from customize menu to get the same functionality.
Edit for v1.4: Hiding Menu bar, clicking on Firefox button, expanding Bookmarks button, doesn't show "Replace Bookmark" option. Also, adding/removing "Bookmarks" button from Customize menu onto/from a bar, then exiting/restarting Firefox shows/hides the Replace Bookmark button (on both Bookmarks Menu and Bookmarks button menu).
Keep up the good work.
No menu item in Firefox -> Bookmarks is to be expected. It's yet another menu that needs to be intentionally supported. Would you use it?
I can't reproduce the hiding problem. Could you write it step by step? Preferably here: https://github.com/dgutov/bmreplace/issues/new
Наконец-то нашёл это расширение, без него просто не мог юзать Firefox,спасибо разработчикам!
I like it very much, well done. One suggestion: You could make the "Keep name" option default(able), as, for example, I always want to keep the name...
In version 1.4, you can add the configuration parameter "extensions.bmreplace.keep-title-default" in about:config.
Type: boolean, value: true.
This is my favorite addon for manga and the like, what I'm hoping to get by writing this is when you click the button for something that's already bookmarked it gives you the usual message but what I want is a way for it replace the old title with the current one please.
Also is it possible to add the content from the tag meta.description when you replace a bookmark.
See version 1.4, for both requests.
