Tools option Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Please leave the new Tools entry. But do make it optional for those that don't want to see Beef Taco listed.

Thanks and keep up the good work!

First, thank you very much for setting up this fork of TACO after the Abine fiasco.

Second, please please please avoid the mistakes they have made.. What is the point of adding the "Beef Taco" item in the Tools menu? Firefox already provides an adequate mechanism for inspecting cookies via the Preferences dialog. All that this recent change achieves is to increase clutter without an iota of additional useful functionality...

Beef Taco is very nice. But the update now brought an entry with icon in the Tools menu. And it cannot be switched off. Please, make it optional or drop it altogether. If I want to view the cookies, I also can install another add-on, e.g. cookie button. I don't want my Tools menu getting cluttered without the option to turn off the entry or at least the icon.

In the Works

Hi Paul,

This has been brought to my attention by others as a negative feature and I am currently working on a new version that nixes this button.

Sorry to change things on you, I'm still trying to figure out the mix of features. Looks like less is more for users of Beef Taco.

Expect 1.3.0 in a few days at the most.

Pretty nice. My only gripe is I would like to be able to select certain things to allow.

I've tired to edit my Taco review to reflect recent events, but I don't know if it has worked. Either way I was trying to notify people about this lovely new variation on our beloved old extension Taco 2.0 and for them to avoid the new Abine version and get this instead.

You KNOW an addon is good when you only gripe is the name! I do wish that it could be more veggie-friendly but such is life. Perhaps a "Veggie Taco" is in order? :P

I kid. Keep up the work fine developer and thank you for giving us back what Abine took away; a simple install-and-ignore addon that helps protect our privacy.

It is true I was wrong and ignorant. I think taco is a wonderful extension. I might as well make up for a low rating.

This fork does not inflict DLLs on windows users unlike taco3.

Works! And there are no performance drawbacks. For those who wonder where to find an options button etc. - there is none. Beef Taco works under the hood. It simply creates a number of cookies with the OptOut flag set, so that advertisers read that flag and stop behavioral advertising. So, all you have to do is: Install and forget :-)

I'm very happy to have the good old light weight TACO add-on back. Thank you so much.

The other 'TACO by Abine' had some dramatic performance issues when viewing on-line content (video's and such). These issues were resolved the minute I removed 'TACO by Abine'.

And to be clear: There are no performance issues with the Beef TACO add-on.

This is the real deal. No adware, no stuffed downloads, just the full working TACO that does exactly what it says on the tin with no embedded surprises.

@Trever
Plugins have never had uninstall buttons, only "disable". Hit the "Extensions" tab to uninstall add-ons.

@digsus
follow the website link, grab the source (in zip or tar). the license is in there.

Thanks for the effort! :-)
find the "Enjoy!" comment in the license section funny, but then got interested under which license the add-on is actually published... I could not find this information. Thanks for providing it.
And maybe it would be better to actually give the open source license instead of the funny comment.

Apache License 2.0

Hi digsus,

You are welcome! That area is actually for a EULA, which isn't the same as a code license. I took out the "Enjoy!" so it should just skip that page when you go to download it now. That may take a few hours to propagate on the Mozilla.org site.

Thank you jmhobbs. It is so good to have an alternative solution to the Abine update.

No comments here on Abine from me, It has all been said in the reviews for their "product".

Thank god for that Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I really liked the load-and-forget unobtrusiveness of the old TACO, and like everyone else I was utterly horrified by the bloated Abine crapware that replaced it without warning. So many thanks for restoring TACO to do what we all originally chose to download it for.

Do not use Ghostery. Ghostery sold out to an advertising company, Better Advertising, in January.

It's ironic that an addon the main purpose of which is to thwart advertising and tracking is now owned by an advertising company.

Didn't Know That

Thanks for pointing that out, I had missed the switch over. I've added a comment to the description relating this information.

Thank you for doing this so I didn't have to do it.

I sure hope nobody is making any money off the old TACO. He literally took it from a Google engineer and added more cookies. I hope he is not making money from something he didn't even create himself.

It does me good to see efforts like this being made when someone tries to screw others so blatantly. Thank you for this!!
