Does its job, but makes Firefox weird Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I have been using Bandwidth Meter for no less than seven years by now. I would add it to Firefox on every computer I got, either with GNU/Linux or Windows NT. For the latter, it has appeared a specific version called "Broadband Speed Test and Diagnostics", so I would use it.
All these years, both have been supplying accurate information on the net link quality. But in the recent years, both have been also supplying and undesired side-effect: whenever Firefox is browsing an address and the server is not found, instead of the "Server not found" screen an ugly yellow screen is shown, reading "XML Parsing error: mismatched tag". Today I got fed up with this and eliminated this add-on on my computers - and I got the "Server not found" screen back. I will probably install these add-ons back in the future - but only when I need them. This ugly screen is weird - it makes you think there's something broken in Firefox.

Didnt work for me ! Call me a computer ignoramus....and I'll agree. However, something is missing ? I installed it in Firefox (latest version). Restarted Firefox as per. Went to "TOOLS" and clicked on the new "Bandwidth" option on the list. It brought up a new box......BUT....the only buttons that worked were "close" and "support". So, apart from computer savvy....what am I missing here ? Help me out ! I thought these things were supposed to work seamlessly, and as one might reasonably expect.

Won't even d/l - the collection of *any* information sort of violates what I see as the Firefox spirit - same reason I'm opposed to the Foxers listing net-nannies and other censor programs, and programs like this, that gather only a little data - too much in my book.

I find it more accurate.

connectivity check isnt accurate. My dsl was hard down physically (ie. no light, no gateway ping) and this showed "your connection is working" I don't know what it tries to ping, but its obviously not useful. It also breaks Fx3's new SSL cert security page. Errors like "The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is not trusted." are not shown, and the exception link is thrown out. Might be good if it added functionality, not took away some.

Pretty Good Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Gets the job done, but would be nice if there was a taskbar button or statusbar button.
