How can i set "many names for each save" of bookmarks? Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Lite and almost full enough! But i wonna use something like variable to put it in the name of the save-file (to have many copies), example:
Backs up History in a txt file but not my Json bookmarks file Rated 2 out of 5 stars
I tested by setting up a backup directory, naming backup file "bookmarks.json" then I added a bookmark, waited more than 5 seconds (5 second delay set) and checked directory, no backup created.
Set up History to backup in the same manner, it works fine, I get a backup file (History.txt) as soon as I view a new page.
BackupFox not working on Ubuntu 14.04, FireFox 31, and BackupFox 1.03 Rated 1 out of 5 stars
BackupFox not working on Ubuntu 14.04, FireFox 31, and BackupFox 1.03. My profile directory is "/home/sacha/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxxx.default/". Can you choose the destination of backup. Desired destination is "/home/sacha/firefox". Would like to backup bookmarks and history. Can't figure out how to set the filepath. Do I need to set folder permissions and(or) file permissions aswell? This review is for a previous version of the add-on (184.108.40.206-signed.1-signed.1-signed).
You can choose the backup destination path in BackupFox's options window. Open a blank tab in FireFox and go to "about:addons", then click the "Preferences" button on the BackupFox line.
You user account will need write permissions for the directory containing the backup file. Permissions shouldn't be an issue if you are writing to your $HOME directory. However, keep in mind that your FireFox profile is also in $HOME, so backing up there won't protect you from disk failures. Consider backing up to another disk or network share.

Um pouco complicado para inexperientes, no entanto é funcional!
Muito útil para reinstalar totalmente o Firefox.
Recupera perfeitamente os favoritos, mesmo aqueles super organizados, com muitas pastas e subpastas.
Oustanding Addon!!! but Lacking in Documentation Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Once I finally figured out you have to actually put the COMPLETE FILENAME PATH in the configuration options, Not just the directory like you normally would, it began working flawlessly! Even better it saves my bookmarks 5 seconds after any changes are made to it!
Since I have over 200,000 bookmarks and Xmarks cannot handle that many and has basically lost many many many of my bookmarks trying to keep them all synced, with their development team at one point having to reconfigure their servers to actually handle this size and amount of bookmarks, which was great but after many of them were already lost, I started looking for alternatives...and this means I can now save my bookmarks to my Cloud drive using this addon and NOT USE XMARKS ANYMORE!!!
Thanks Man, great Addon!
Backups unusable Rated 3 out of 5 stars
The addon really makes a full automatic backup of Firefox bookmarks and history, but HOW to restore history from it? Firefox default backup-restore utility works with bookmarks only! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (220.127.116.11-signed.1-signed.1-signed).
useless Rated 1 out of 5 stars
No need for this or any similar extension. I just reinstalled Windows, but before that I saved folder: C:\Users\*mycomputername*\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox and replaced it after re-installing Windows (and after installing FF again, of course). Everything is the same as it used to be before reinstalling Windows, bookmarks, extensions, cookies, history, even GMail manager and all the passwords for everything...
Just overwrite that folder with the one you saved and you won't lose anything. It will seem like you only restarted your computer :-)
Problem and Request Rated 5 out of 5 stars
tested with firefox 10.0.1 and BackupFox 1.0.3 "backup delay 1s"
1 - BackupFox don't restore history from jason file !!!!!
how to recreate problem >
- config backup file for BackupFox = back+url.json
navigate to www.site.com.... www.site.com is on firefox history and in back+url.json file ( verified with notepad++ ). all is good
- config backup file for BackupFox = back-tmp.json
delete all www.site.com item in firefox history , them import back+url.json file ( open the bookmarks/history library window.
click on Import and Backup ; Restore ; Choose File.Browse for back+url.json JASON file, select it, and click Open. )
- www.site .com isn't in firefox history !!!!!! , after close/restart firefox too
REQUEST for history options:
1 - possibility to enable/disable auto backup = manual backup only
2 - possibility to expand or disable "item_limit" , 5000 items max is too little. unlimited items would be better

This only backs up to the default firefox folder, not a good place to put a backup. We should be able to choose where we want it backed up. Also how does this maintain important browser settings when it only pertains to bookmarks and history ?This review is for a previous version of the add-on (18.104.22.168-signed.1-signed.1-signed). This user has a previous review of this add-on.
Check out the options page, it lets you select a backup location.

Documentation Lacking Rated 3 out of 5 stars
How does one find documentation on how to use this add-on? Like a dummy, I loaded it,but now cannot figure out how it works. It would help to have instructions on the Add-in page or a link to them. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (22.214.171.124-signed.1-signed.1-signed).
Almost every add-on contains a configuration page that can be opened from the FireFox Add-Ons Manager. On the default theme (Win7), click on the orange Firefox button and select Add-ons, then click the Options button on the add-on you wish to configure.
The configuration page for BackupFox is self-explanatory. Furthermore, the BackupFox configuration dialog is automatically displayed the first time you reboot FireFox after installation.

Sounded good, but it does not work. FF 9.0.1, snow leopard. I checked and rechecked but everytime I try to backup bookmarks it says there is an error and I should check my options, which are set correctly. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (126.96.36.199-signed.1-signed.1-signed).
Sorry to hear that. Can you send a screenshot of the configuration page and the error console (scroll down all the way)?

the idea of this plug in is good , i was using it and suddenly i needed to formate the pc and i said ok all my bookmarks are backed up i will not lose them if i formated the pc so i did formate the pc and reinstall the back up bookmarks ,but i could not know how to open my old backed up bookmark items , i want to enter some websites that i've bookmarked and backed them up using this plug in but i can't
how to import an existing previously made book mark backup file
.json and use it? . because i need to do this
how to reuse an old bookmark backup file .json ?
no problem, just follow these instructions
Using Firefox 7.0.1 with default theme:
Click the orange Firefox button > Bookmarks > Show all Bookmarks. This will open the bookmarks/history library window.
Now click on Import and Backup > Restore > Choose File.
Browse for your JASON file, select it, and click Open.
The JASON file generated by BackupFox matches the format of FireFox's bookmarks backup/restore utility, which is what you will use to restore the file.
Have a look at this as well:
I hope that helps!
(and sorry for the late reply)

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for this extension. Having suffered a host of OS re-installs recently having an addon like this that automatically backs up bookmarks as you add or change them is wonderful. Thanks a lot for making this. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (220.127.116.11-signed.1-signed.1-signed).
