It works perfectly, except that it's not compatible with E10s.
...been some time now that the extension has not been updated and it doesn't work with the latest versions of firefox - especially now with the new Australis UI that landed in the latest nightlies.I'm giving it 2 stars for old times sake. Willing to give it another go once it's updated and revise my rating.
Edit: ...well it seems that Backward/Forward History Dropdown 0.2.4 doesn't work either but fortunately Classic Theme Restorer 188.8.131.5231125a has an option to enable a dropdown that so far works fine. Sorry, but my 5 stars will go to that addon.
If I could figure out how on earth it's supposed to work with Australis, given that that doesn't even *have* a separate back/forward toolbar item...
Please, do update version compactible with Firefox 22 soon ...
Seems like a nice add on but I just discovered that I can right click on the back button to see the history
I guess you aren't one of those people who actually want to use the dropdown then.
I should've done this years ago, but I've updated the extension description to mention the two alternate ways of getting history.
would've wanted to see the arrow button all the time, easy to forget that the function is installed otherwise. But other than that it's awesome. Thanks!
..but a great idea, nonetheless.
Would be perfect if it would disable that annoying drop-down when you hold the back/forward arrows for more than a nanosecond. Now, I have two times the function but still the problem. "My" problem, to be precise, but I think it goes hand in hand to get the drop-down arrow back and disable the new drop-down function.
I still thank you, of course,
I'm having a problem installing this add on. Here's what's happened:
I located a new version 0.2.4 of the popular Backward Forward History add-on that is suppose to run on the newer versions of FF. I tried it, but after downloading and allowing it to install several times, I could find no trace of it. I have a new PC running FF 11 and Windows 7 Home Premium with SP 1. What do you suppose is causing this? I sure would like to use this add-on, but it's not working on my FF version 11.
I also tried installing Back/Forward Dropmarker but it too isn't showing up. I can't figure out what's wrong. There might be some setting or some other thing checked that's blocking add ons from installing. After each download/install I DO restart my browser. I also rebooted my PC after one of the installations. I do use the add on called AdBlock but have it disabled "on Google.com" under the Tools settings. Is blocking AdBlock on Google.com sufficient? Norton's Internet Security has never blocked any add ons or plug ins before.
BTW, when I ran an earlier version of FF there was a menu under Tools that showed all my add ons, whether they were enabled or disabled, and would allow me to uninstall any add on. Is this menu still available on FF11 and where can I locate it?
At this point I don't know what's wrong and would sure appreciate any suggestions.
This sounds more like an end-user support question...
You can get to the Add-ons Manager with ctrl+shift+a, Firefox button -> Add-ons, or by navigating to about:addons. You could try disabling all your extensions in case there's a conflict. If you're really having problems installing any extension, you should try a new profile (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile -- the other steps on that page may be useful too).
Failing that, the folks at the support forums are probably more able to help you than I am. It looks like you can ask them questions via http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/new
Works just fine; can't confirm the bug reported by x-ram on September 23, 2011.
Thank you for writing an extension to restore this bit of functionality that was removed from FF 4. Some themes (such as all of Alfred Kayser's) still include button images for the "recent pages" dropdown, in order to be compatible with FF 3.* or earlier. I hope that you will add the ability to use the button images provided by the theme if they are available.
Unfortunately it causes the Navigation bar on second+ windows to disappear.
Although not critical for my own situation---right-click is available for most mice and trackballs under both Windows and LinUX---this is a necessary Extension for Apple hardware when using Firefox 4-up, as the Macintosh series has only one mouse-button switch even on later models with scrolling trackballs integrated into the mouse covers. Ideally, the history dropmarker would have been kept by default, given the obvious lack of a second mouse button on most Apple hardware.
In a short test on my Asus CM1630-06 running Microsoft Windows 7.0.8001, this Extenstion works as advertised, duplicating on the left click the current-tab history menu accessible from a right-click of Back/Forward on Windows and LinUX installations.
This is one of the most important features of a browser if you do any surfing at all. Mozilla is a bit like Apple in technology "improvements"; 1 step forward - 2 steps back. Thanks for the add-on, it makes Firefox fully functionable again.
Yay! I just *love* re-adding UI features that got removed from new versions of software for no reason. Had that experience with Visual Studio 2010 earlier this year, and now with FF. Just glad people like you have me covered for fixing them!
Was working great and then it suddenly stopped working a little while ago. It disabled itself. I re-enabled it, restarted, and still doesn't work.
FF 5 (updated a few days ago)
The fact that I need an add-on for this is positively the dumbest thing ever! I don't want to have to click and hold. It's basic function that would take them like 10px of space.
Thank you SO much for this. It's awesome!
I had been missing this add on. I love it!! Thanks again!!
You CAN still use the menu without the add-on by RIGHT CLICK.
Other than that this is handy for those that don't want to change habit.
I'm dreaded when Firefox developers decide to replace more functional and convenient (drop marker) with less functional and convenient (right click) for no apparent reason or just because Chrome and IE did it too. Thank you for this addon!
Thanks so much for making this. I used the drop down arrow all the time and was horrified to lose it. This fixes the last problem I had with Firefox 4.0 and I'm happy again! :)
Almost perfect. Only thing that could make it better would be to make it look exactly like the old one (with the darker background of the default theme extended around it)
