3.0.5 settings Rated 5 out of 5 stars
This extension gets 5 stars for the idea alone and may well become my all time favorite. Where do you go in Firefox 3.0.5 to remove the file type association in Firefox so that the ASF filters will take priority? I tried "tools, options, content" and can't find a "manage" option. Thank you in advance. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.1).
File Type Association
From Firefox 3.x, the file type association has his own tab.
It's in tools/options/Applications tabs
Choose "always ask" for the file type you want to filter.

Really useful. That is what I was looking for. Unfortunately there is no "Download Management" Add-on that fits all my needs. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.1).
Great concept Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I give this one full score although I can't install it in Linux. (It's expermiental - thus justifiable).
I've tried install directly, download - then install, and with nightly testing tools (override all compatiblity). None worked. Make it 100% platform independent and installable - and your extension will be used by 20-25% of the world's computers. Wouldn't THAT be WOW! :o))
Maybe addon conflict
I tried it on linux (ubuntu) and firefox 2.5 to 3.0.4, and I managed to install it, and the filters were working too.
I really don't understand why it's not installing for you. Do you have an error, or no message a all ?
Maybe an addon conflict.
Could you try it on a new clean profile ?
Maybe it's not working on Firefox 3.1.xb if it's what you are using, I will try it on beta soon.

Where can I report a bug? This extension isn't working for me. It doesn't save my files in the folder it says it does :S.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.1).
I see with Telekito, and he is on windows Vista.
It seems there is still a value not set correctly for Vista users.
You can change it manually :
In your Firefox address bar, enter this:
Search for browser.download.folderList and set it to "2".
I will force the value change in the next release.
Thank you for your help.

One Big Suggestion Rated 3 out of 5 stars
When using the download manager for files that don't have a filter applied, it would be very nice to still be able to select the folder to save them in instead of only being given the option of the last used folders or a new filter. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.1).

I can't make it work Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I have been looking for something like this for weeks, but I don't know way I can't use it.
I've tried some very simple filters, like just ".flv" (without ") and nothing. There's no file type association or another download plugin.
I'm using Firefox 3
file or video ?
Does the .flv you are trying to get can be downloaded as a file when clicking on a link with left mouse button ?
Does the downloading window show up and does it prompt you where you want to save it ?
ASF can only works if normal file download works too.
If the download window is shown and ASF is still not working, I will need more informations to know if there's a bug or not.
Did you try another file/domain/filter ?
I hope you will get it working.
Finally Got it To Work! Rated 5 out of 5 stars
OK, I finally figured out why this was not working for me. You need to delete the file type association in Firefox otherwise Firefox will override this add-on. To do this, click Tools --> Options. Select Content tab at the top. Now click manage at the bottom right, for file types. Find the file type you want to add a filter to and remove it. Now your filters will work. Yay!This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.7).
Thank you Photonic for your help.
I didn't know those options were interfering with the add-ons. I will add a note for this.
Great Idea, Doesn't Work for Me Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I am not sure why, but this add-on does not seem to work for me. No matter what filters I apply, it does not sort the downloads, it always sends it to my default folder. I have even tried to create a filter for all site/all files, and it just won't work... I might be doing something wrong... but I don't think I am. Anyways, added it to favorites and am watching for updates. Will be a great add-on when it works for me. Gave it 5 stars because of the idea and the fact the author is trying to implement it. Should be a default option in Firefox really.
Running it on Firefox 184.108.40.206 under Windows Vista Ultimate x64

All i want to do is store all \"*.nzb\" files in a specific folder. But not a single filter works. Way to complex expressions i guess. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.7).
filter by extension
For an easy filter like this, do not use Regexp.
- In the filter field, just type ".nzb"
without quote, nor backslash. The * is not even needed.
- Do not check regexp.
- Then Choose a folder.
Should I add an easier help file ?
Feature request Rated 3 out of 5 stars
Searched for such extension.
Downloaded and tested.
It is rather hard to fill each URL manually (using menu), especially if you have a lot of different folder location for many downloads.
Is it possible to have a few options for the save file dialog to force "Automatic Save Folder" automatically create a rule based on file name and a selected folder when downloading.
- Don't remember
- Remember folder for the domain
- Remember folder for the full path
- Remember folder for the mask (+ Edit field where user can edit current filename)
This will increase usability a lot.
I was planning on adding something like that on the pre-save dialog, an "add a new rule now" button (I already added the place for future use).
your idea is great too :)
But I don't know if I can take back the chosen folder after the saving process to create a new filter, because the script has already ended when the save dialog box is shown.
I will try to include this feature, I can't give any schedule though.
If another coder want to help me, any help is welcome.
Thank you for your comment.
Edit on May 24th:
For the option to add filter where you asked, I can't do an easy checkbox list. I could but it's not a good idea, I will have to use a popup for security issue and filters creation checking.
I'm wondering if I will add the localpath while creating the filter, or while choosing the destination folder while saving. I'm working on it and hope to release it for FF3.0
