Wow, wow, wow

Awesomeness in a can would not be great as this addon. Would be great to be able to load user made scripts for people who are lazy or just computer illiterate. Also, needs a better icon and the word awesome somewhere in the name (Awesome Automatic Save Folder (aasf)?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.2).

Icon

Don't you like my Awesome icon ?
By "user made script", you mean pre-made filters to load from a file/website ?
Even if I could make it, I don't think it might be worth it, every download and filter is personal, you set what you want to catch. If a website want to provide a filter, he can write it somewhere.
For lazy people, just a word is enough, and for really lazy there is an option while saving "add this as a filter" button (Ok, I'm using it too :p).

Thanks for the Awesomeness !

great plugin! Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This plugin had to be made! I thought it must be a functionality firefox already had and was trying to find out how to do this in the preferences. Now the only logical progression is to develop the ability for this addon to automatically save files to pre specified folders without a dialog or prompt. Thank you for making this! Still needs some work though for the five stars :-)

I cannot get this addon to work with rar files. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox 3.0.5 and also made sure to check Options > Applications to see if firefox was overriding. Any advice?

new version

If you are using Vista, please try the version 0.9.2
I corrected it, it can now change the destination folder correctly.
If it's still not working, please report again with all the details like your OS type, the filters you are using etc., so I can check your filters and see if there is any error in my script.

Only one thing to the author of this great extension: please add support to external download managers. That will make this work Perfect!

Working in Ubuntu 8.10 / Firefox 3.0.5 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is awesome and very, very useful.

It wasn't working at first for me, but I was able to fix it:

I created a very simple Filter:
Filename: .nzb
Folder: /media/nzb

Next, make sure Firefox doesn't have a default behaviour for this file extension:

- go to (in Firefox 3.0.5): edit > preferences > applications
- search for your file extension
- set the value to "always ask"

Finally, make sure the "browser.download.folderList" - property is set to "2": (that wasn't the case here)

- enter "about:config" in the link bar
- search for "browser.download.folderList"
- make sure its value is "2", change it if necessary.

After that, everything should work fine.

Thanks for this perfect AddOn!!! :-)

Not Working on Ubuntu 8.10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Hi

First of all: this would be awesome - if only it worked in Ubuntu 8.10 / Firefox 3.0.5.

I've created a very simple filter:
Domain: /.*/
File name: .nzb
Folder: /home/user/somefolder

I've set the .nzb extension to "always ask", and Firefox asks me want I'd like to do when clicking on the download link... But it still save it to the Firefox default folder, no matter what I do.

Anyway to fix that? ...Is there a log somewhere? ... how can I help?

Thanks
marbot

3.0.5 settings Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This extension gets 5 stars for the idea alone and may well become my all time favorite. Where do you go in Firefox 3.0.5 to remove the file type association in Firefox so that the ASF filters will take priority? I tried "tools, options, content" and can't find a "manage" option. Thank you in advance.

File Type Association

Hi,
From Firefox 3.x, the file type association has his own tab.
It's in tools/options/Applications tabs
Choose "always ask" for the file type you want to filter.

Really useful. That is what I was looking for. Unfortunately there is no "Download Management" Add-on that fits all my needs.

Great concept Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I give this one full score although I can't install it in Linux. (It's expermiental - thus justifiable).

I've tried install directly, download - then install, and with nightly testing tools (override all compatiblity). None worked. Make it 100% platform independent and installable - and your extension will be used by 20-25% of the world's computers. Wouldn't THAT be WOW! :o))

Maybe addon conflict

I tried it on linux (ubuntu) and firefox 2.5 to 3.0.4, and I managed to install it, and the filters were working too.
I really don't understand why it's not installing for you. Do you have an error, or no message a all ?
Maybe an addon conflict.
Could you try it on a new clean profile ?
Maybe it's not working on Firefox 3.1.xb if it's what you are using, I will try it on beta soon.

Where can I report a bug? This extension isn't working for me. It doesn't save my files in the folder it says it does :S.

bug report

Hi,
I see with Telekito, and he is on windows Vista.

It seems there is still a value not set correctly for Vista users.
You can change it manually :
In your Firefox address bar, enter this:
about:config
Search for browser.download.folderList and set it to "2".

I will force the value change in the next release.

Thank you for your help.

One Big Suggestion Rated 3 out of 5 stars

When using the download manager for files that don't have a filter applied, it would be very nice to still be able to select the folder to save them in instead of only being given the option of the last used folders or a new filter.
