Awesome Add-on.

For some reason it will only download image files (whatever the extension) to the last downloaded folder rather than following the filters, but it works for all other extensions.

A great program. Installed a week ago, works perfect. Do not understand the criticism. Works exactly as advertised. I download certain extensions to particular folders, really nice to have this program that puts them in the correct place.

Goodbye Safari with Saft/Glims, dated download folders for Firefox are now here! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Dated download folders support - FINALLY! I've been using Safari since I moved to OS X only because of Saft/Glims support for dated download folders, but since Safari 4.0.1 was so buggy (crashes within a few minutes due to bad JS implementation!) I switched back to Firefox. This plugin is the final nail in Safari's coffin. Much thanks!

Awesome concept, doesn't work. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I like the idea, but it just doesn't work.

For example:
Domain = ^http:\/\/(|www\.)filehippo\.com$ with regexp checked.
Filename = all
Local Folder is set to D:\Downloads\Softwares

No matter what is will always save to the default folder. I've tried with other domains as well, but it still doesn't work.
I'm using FF 3.0.11, on Windows Vista.

Message edited, after the user contacted me by email :
Your problem is different than the user bellow :
The user bellow you have the suggested path correct but the opened one wrong.
As of you, you have both the suggested and the opened path wrong.

Your problem is a filter's validation error, did you test with a simple filter, like all domain, all file, select a different folder and see which suggested path you have : filter of default.
I'm currently checking the filter validation process, but I don't see any error.

Currently Not Working Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Would be great if worked correctly. Problem the filters no not download to the correct folders.

Running:
Windows 7 x64
Firefox 3.0.11

Options:
Shows the downloads window (Checked)
Save files to (checked)

I select the file, download windows open. I have an option to save and at the bottom of the window I see a box:
Title: Automatic save folder
Showing the correct folder from the filter.

I press OK and it saves the file to the Save file to option from the firefox menu.

I only switched to the "save files to" when I installed the extension. However, I tried your solution and still was left with the same result.

Need more informations

hi, thank you for the windows 7 report. You are the first one using it, but this problem seems to happen to vista or XP users too.

Edit :
Thanks for the edit, I see this problem is not corrected :/

Maybe another add-on is in conflict with it, do you have another download manager, other than DTA (which is already confirmed working)?.
Do you have time to help me ? I would need you to check some firefox behavior when downloading a file 'without' ASF installed and see which option you are using.
I don't understand why some Firefox are working and some don't :(
It may be an option I don't know yet.
If you think you can check options for me, please contact me by email.
Thank you

Very useful addon. Perfectly to automatically categorize the wallpapers I download from different websites.

This is absolutely brilliant. Note to everyone: make sure you disable automatic file downloading on file types and in general if you want this to work.

I'd love for you to make it work with "save link as" etc. Keep up the good work

Thanks

Thank you.

I hope I can make "save link as" working too.
I just don't know how yet. I'll search again.

thanks for the excellet add-on.

Excellent concept but sadly it just does not work Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This is a great idea because I hate having all my files dumped into the same folder or manually having to select where to download files every time. Unfortunately this just does not work.

No matter what filters I set up, it always downloads into the same folder. For example, if I made a filter called *.zip (and I also tried just .zip too), and set it to download into C:\downloads\zips and also set C:\downloads to be the folder where files goes that do not match any filters, clicking on a .zip file to download places it in c:\downloads anyway. Perhaps this addon does not play nicely with DownThemAll but I really wish it did since it has what DownThemAll completely lacks making it an excellent supplement.

Verdict: I will keep this plugin installed though with hopes that the issue gets fixed. For now though, it's completely unusable on my system (Windows XP, Firefox v3.08).

Rating: 2/5 in its current state, 5/5 once it actually works.

Thank you for your report.

You are the second one to point me to this error, but you gave me more explanation.
I Will check the saving process again, and I hope it will be working in the next release.

I don't think DownThemAll is the problem here, I'm using it and it's working fine with both of them.

Could you contact me by email ?
It's working on my computer, and so it's harder to find the problem.
I may need you to test other options and check your firefox profile option too.
Thank you.

For information, the next release is almost finished. Some people requested dynamic variables, I added them for renaming folders.
You will be able to make new folders with, for example, the date of the day, the domain's name, or even an extended dynamic function with Regular expression to extract data from the domain & filename to use as renaming pattern.

Good for everything but images? Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I could not get this to work with images. I guess this is by design, since it requires the "Open with..." dialogue, which you don't get with the "Save image..." menu entry you get for images.

This and the fact it won't work with download managers and the much too small non-resizable config dialogue make me stop at three stars.

Solving these issues would certainly make this a five-star addon!

download manager

Hi,
What do you mean by "not working with Download Manager" ?
What would you like ASF to do with it ?
ASF is useful before the download manager, while choosing where to save, not after it has been saved.
If you have ideas, let me know, don't only criticize without explaining.

By "much too small non-resizable config dialogue" you mean the main config window ?
The config window is resizable horizontally to see long path filters. (Use the tools/ASF... menu, not the addons manager menu)
I can try to make it resizable verticaly too.
The other windows (add, edit, and help) are not resizable, is that what you are talking about ?

Anyway, the "right click/save as..." is not working and is not design to, but I hope to add it someday.

Tried to get it working... Not worth the effort. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Could not get it to work at all. Changed the about:config and Tools>app settings as mentioned in other comments. Running 3.07 on Vista.

first I had *.zip to go to c:\users\blah\downloads\zip. Then I tried just '.zip' and still nothing.

After I changed app settings to just ask. It asked then I clicked save file and it went back to the default folder.

I give up.

bug report

Thanks for the report.

I don't understand why it's not working.
Maybe another addon is interfering ?
Do you have 0.9.2 ?

If you have time again, could you test this please:
Check the "show option while saving", and try downloading a file.
It might show the path to where the file has to be saved.
If the filters work, it might show the path you defined, appears here.
If the filters doesn't work, you will see always the same folder.
If this is solution 1 but doesn't open this corresponding folder when you choose "save", then this is the same error than 0.9.1 and vista with about:config option set to 1.
I thought it was corrected in 0.9.2, so I would like to know if this problem is still happening and if your option is really set to 2, so I can look for another correction.

If it's option 2, then the filters are not working.
I should really create a webpage with files to download and corresponding filters to test.

Reports are never fully informative, there's always missing elements for me to understand what goes wrong :(

Sorry I can't do anything here, but thanks anyway.

Great add-on, but sadly no beta 3 support :( But I understand, beta 3 is still very new. I'll be awaiting an update :)

beta3

Hi,
I tested it on beta2 only, but I think it will work on beta3 too, as there's no change in the download dialog.
You can edit the version manually if you need: uninstall the addon, rename xpi to zip and edit the maxVersion in install.rdf to 3.1b3, re-zip and rename to xpi, then install it again.

Thank you for all your good comments so far, people.
Sorry to still be in experimental zone and force you to register to download it, I would like to be in public zone, but I need some help in javascript development to be allowed there.
Anyone interested to work on it with me?

Included in Firefox

Hi,
I thought it might be included too, but I had to do it.

Actually, it's just a little trick on the download dialog. I would like to move it into firefox's own application's option tab, and make it work with right click too.
I don't have a lot of time to work on it, I will do it slowly.

Thank you for your comment.

Wow, wow, wow

Awesomeness in a can would not be great as this addon. Would be great to be able to load user made scripts for people who are lazy or just computer illiterate. Also, needs a better icon and the word awesome somewhere in the name (Awesome Automatic Save Folder (aasf)?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.2).

Icon

Don't you like my Awesome icon ?
By "user made script", you mean pre-made filters to load from a file/website ?
Even if I could make it, I don't think it might be worth it, every download and filter is personal, you set what you want to catch. If a website want to provide a filter, he can write it somewhere.
For lazy people, just a word is enough, and for really lazy there is an option while saving "add this as a filter" button (Ok, I'm using it too :p).

Thanks for the Awesomeness !
