New feature request

Hi, could you implement firefox sync support? I agree with klint about the opener idea.

FYI: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Services/Sync/Addon_Sync#Are_Add-on_Settings_Synchronized.3F

*** update ***
OK, at least backup / restore would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.

I'm not familiar with Sync and don't use it, but I'll search on this topic and will give an answer whether I can a bit later (probably not very soon - up to several weeks, there are some difficulties at the moment).

New feature request Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hi
First, thank you very much for this helpful addon, particularly at work ;)
I have one request:
would it be possible to have one group in the rules considered as the CURRENT group from where the new URL is opened: it would allow a URL that you use very often to open in the current group?
The configuration I have is:
- one group for work, with a few URLs
- one group for private matters, with just a "*" sweeping rule, matching everything which is not in the other group.
But when I open Gmail or a few other URLs, I just want it to be opened in the current group, whether it is the one for work, or the private one, I don't care. Just the current one.
Do you see my point?
Thanks :)

Hi and thanks for your feedback! :)

Yes, I see your point and I think this feature is quite useful and could be implemented. I just can't tell when, because I currently have a full-time job and it's difficult for me to find some time for this addon (actually, I even haven't managed to take a look on the issue described in a bug report several posts below yet).

So, I'll add this request as an issue to project's github (https://github.com/Akimkin/autogroup), but it probably won't be implemented soon. If anybody wants to contribute the project — feel free to do so. ;)

UPD: Added existing feature requests to github:

finally, sorting by URL etc Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is brilliant and took me some time to understand and get it going, but the instructions are very precise, just needed to stop and read word for word. Hope it will serve me well! :)

Works perfectly fine (until 23.0.1) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Seems to be broken right now for me with 23.0.1. Would love the tabs that are sorted to hijack focus from current tab.

Not sure about 23.0

The error is

Timestamp: 28-Aug-13 2:45:28 AM
Error: TypeError: contentWindow is null
Source File: chrome://autogroup/content/overlay.js
Line: 85

Did it work for you with 23.0? Do you see any messages related to "autogroup" in the error console? (available by Shift+Ctrl+J)
====
Yep, there was such issue before (on some setups of FF19).
I'll write here when there will be any progress on this issue. I'll take a detailed look on the problem at this weekend.

After I reproduce bug on my setup I will also open a new issue with detailed progress here:
https://github.com/Akimkin/autogroup/issues

Thanks for your report.

Not for me yet Rated 4 out of 5 stars

As already mentioned, it switches to the moved tab when I open it in the background, but maybe it's better this way.
What I really need is an addon that would sort all my tabs when I invoke it, not when I open them. It could work by clicking on some button or better choosing it in tabs context menu.

I have recommand the extention for my friends and now I have know thatto change groups with CTRL+~, but I don't want to use keyboard , is there a button to change the groups?

and it can't treat https://developer.mozilla.org/ "https"

This user has a previous review of this add-on.

Yes, there's "Tab Groups" toolbar button for that. It should be on the right edge of tab strip. If it's not there, you can add it manually using toolbar Customize dialog (to call it, right-click on empty space on tab strip and choose "Customize..." from the menu).

As for developer.mozilla.org via "https": I cannot reproduce that.
There can be a problem if site loading is slow: tab group will be changed only when page is fully loaded.

Not working with firefox19 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It's a quite good addon, and it does the job for me - simple tab sorting. But it stoped working with firefox 19 update :(

=EDIT =

Now fixed, thanks! :D

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3).

Fixed

Yes, I've encountered this too after update to 19.0. Unfortunately I haven't found 100% solution to a problem yet, although I didn't have enough free time. I hope to find some time this weekend.

UPD: In order to help addon's development I have created GitHub repository (https://github.com/Akimkin/autogroup), so everyone who wants can contribute now.

UPD#2: Fixed in 0.3.1 version.

not "auto" Rated 2 out of 5 stars

like someone have already said (sorry i copy past because iam not good in english to write with my own word ) :

It needs some built-in general rules (by domain, opened-from, etc). If I have to enter a custom regex for every set of tabs I visit it's easier to group them manually.

still now luck.. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

here's how I'm doing the filters :
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16585509/autogroup.jpg

Also, when I enable it I can not use the tab group feature, when I try to send to new group, nothing happens, and the groups button on the tab bar just disappears

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2.2).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

I failed to reproduce that.

Tried running AutoGroup with TooManyTabs and TabMix plus using Firefox 12 on Windows 7.

What other extensions do you use?

Apparently the choice of what to group requires good consideration. Many things are not something I'd group, because I may want to read them with other things in the same group; and even with what I chose to group, it's pretty confusing (though more useful than confusing).

I have a rare problem, and I suspect this extension of causing it since January: sometimes a group would fall apart into separate tabs, resulting in something like this: https://mediagoblin.com/u/aleksej/m/a-pile-of-one-tab-groups-in-firefox/ (that was on Jan 22, in total 140 tabs were open after that).

Today I've opened a group with 120-160 tabs from a bookmarks folder, processed them with a key-pressing program (I know there is a better way, but that’s not really related to the issue), and found that the tabs are a stack but not a group! https://mediagoblin.com/u/aleksej/m/a-tab-stack-without-a-tab-group-in-firefox-panorama/ After a restart, there was a stack of small (1‐2 tabs) groups in an angle, like at the first picture.

Update 2012-10-02:
Группы не разваливались с тех пор как я перестал пользоваться этим расширением.
Groups haven’t fallen apart since I stopped using this extension.

I don't know where to write the bugs so I'll write here.
For firefox 9.0.1:
This extension works well until I try to write filters. When I write the 1st filter it will increase the side of the list system on the top and then it becomes broken. All contents under the options system become hidden "behind" the "ok" button. How can that be solved?
----------------------
Changed the source code of the options window (the .xul file) and all went well. I just added CSS to the tag.
ADD:
style="height:500px"
where:
<prefpane id="pane1" label="&pane1.title;">
on line 6.

With that the window is now big enugh for this. (i believe it could become a bit smaller) but like this is good.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2).

Yes, I can confirm this bug for Firefox 9 under Windows. It can be avoided by maximizing settings dialog window via its titlebar context menu.

UPD:
Uploaded version 0.2.1 with this and some other config UI bug fixes. Thank you.

Can't back to the parent tab Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I close the tab while the parent tab in another group.
It can't be back.

2012/1/5
I found out a solution of back-to the parent tab that is tabkit 2nd.

It also interferes with the list all tabs button by greying them out and making them unclickable.

Group list Rated 4 out of 5 stars

AutoGroup don't put New Tab in the "Others" group when Firefox open. When I open the first page Autogroup put it in the "Others" group, so I have 2 groups "No title" and "Others".

extensions.autogroup.groups;[{"groupName":"MOZILLA","groupFilters":[{"fName":"mozilla.org","fsType":1,"fgType":0,"fCheck":"mozilla.org"},{"fName":"mozilla.com","fsType":1,"fgType":0,"fCheck":"mozilla.com"},{"fName":"mozillalabs","fsType":1,"fgType":0,"fCheck":"mozillalabs"}]},{"groupName":"VARIOS","groupFilters":[{"fName":"about:blank","fsType":1,"fgType":0,"fCheck":"about:"},{"fName":"New Tab","fsType":1,"fgType":1,"fCheck":"New"},{"fName":"http://","fsType":1,"fgType":0,"fCheck":"http://"},{"fName":"https://","fsType":1,"fgType":0,"fCheck":"https://"}]}]

Yes, I can now see the issue. It seems that Firefox always opens its start page in empty Panorama group. I'll try to do something with this in next versions.

If it's not too important for you to have named default group, you can just give empty name to "VARIOS" (i.e., your default) group (AutoGroup allows this) - it's the only solution I see at this moment.

Btw, adding a text filter for "New tab" expression in tab's title is a bad idea, because AutoGroup does not handle text in tab header, it handles text in the title of document (i.e., web page) loaded in tab, so such filter is quite useless.

Thanks for your feedback.

ОК, Denis Akimkin!
