Its works here ff55.0.1
Just want to note its only works if multi-process is enabled.
Thx alot ;D
Been asked before ,in 2015 !! BUT this is really needed
given the 200 step log on stuff around Gmail hoops you have to jump though, having *.google.* is a pain.
Recently (ff 53+?) some links I click that should open in a new tab with instead open in a new private tab. I only have facebook and twitter set in the domains config, and I do have the private tab extension installed. One common example is links to imgur albums from reddit will open in private tabs.
Since FF 52, tabs don't turn private automatically.
In about:config page, the content of the key extensions.autoprivate.domains is still there, but doesn't seem to be read...
I love this addon. Set some keywords and/or addresses you don't want to show in your history and boom, you are in private mode automatically.
Essential but very useful extension, almost perfect in conjunction with "Private tab". A must for me. Need to be updated to have it working with firefox version > 50.
(just need to modify install.rdf and re-sign the extension)
** WORKAROUND TO HAVE IT WORK WITH FIREFOX version > 50 **
(use these instructions with care)
1. disable firefox automatic addons update
2. install " checkCompatibility " extension
when you need to check and update your extensions
1. disable " checkCompatibility " extension
2. manually trigger " check for updates "
2a. IF incompatible extensions ARE FOUND : manually DISABLE or DELETE them
3. re-enable " checkCompatibility " extension
4. re-enable "Auto Private"
I use this to load pages that have limits on page views like nytimes, ajc, from encountering those caps. As others have mentioned this is no longer compatible with firefox 50+. I hope that it returns soon. This might be what forces me back to Chrome.
A very usefull add-on but since update Firefox to version 51 does not work any more :-(
not compatible on 51.0. Mac. Please fix.
This nifty add-on used to work until like half a year ago but now it doesn't open any of the domains in private tabs any more.
What went wrong?
Because I see people reporting it still does the trick!
Maybe that's why it's experimental? ;-)
need to blacklist IP address also, failed when i tried
I'm not yet sure whether I'm going to keep this; having to go into about:config to add a new domain is seriously inconvenient.
Please, please add at least a minimal UI with a list of "automatic" domains or URLs to enable management (removal) and a text entry field to add new ones. (See NoScript's whitelisting UI.)
Please also add a support link or other method of contacting you. We're not supposed to be posting bug reports and feature requests in reviews.
Does what it says, and works very well!
Could you please also add support for firefox mobile? With that addition, the addon would be perfect! :)
Use it with Private Tab, it's awesome.
It's really useful to keep those no adblock site crap out of your browser, when you have to visit it. Also for the good site where you want to support the site with displaying the ads, but did not want to keep the those ads crap on your browser.
Adding google.com to the list makes Gmail (google.com/mail) private as well. That means once you login to your Gmail in private window, then go to Google.com, you are logged in to Google.
This Addon is disabled in Firefox 43(Nightly). How to enable it in Firefox 43?
This is a great addon but it hasn't been updated for a long time and it does not seem to work with the upcoming multiprocess Firefox.
great extension ! works !
i have a request. Could you please please please mod your extension and make a version which is compatible with either Multifox or Priv8 extension? they both use the firefox sandbox like private browsing so i thought your addon could be modified quickly. but perhaps its alot of work.
i want to be logged in to google on youtube but not on the rest of the web. using an auto-sandbox would be amazing for that!
me and many other people would be really gratefull imho
Awesome add-on. Thnx
Together with "Private Tab" it is very good for me.
This is a nice extension. I know it's not "hard" using about:config, but it would be easier if one didn't have to. Please consider adding a GUI. Thanks.
Thanks for this handy extension. Useful with PrivateTab extension.
This module does perfectly what it is supposed to do.
The fact that each private tab name is underlined makes it really clear to sort things out.
There is one little hiccup however : I'm not using Private Tab, and when I click a new tab from an already auto "private'd" tab, it still inherits the private state, when I actually don't want this behaviour to happen... Why ?
I mainly use this on Google, so there's no account associated with my searches, but upon opening a new link (in a new tab), it will be opened in private mode...
Any tips ?
Thanks for the awesome work !
Works very well, even without Private Tab.
Editing the Firefox about:config file is easy, but not for the novice.
This add-on does exactly what it is supposed to. You'll know when this add-on is working because you'll see a red dashed underline beneath the tab indicating it's private.
Be sure to read the description carefully. Adding just "google.com" will not filter maps.google.com, but ".google.com" will (note the preceding period). I would suggest the author adds a GUI for configuring this add-on. Regardless, this is worthy of five stars!
Will keep it.
EDIT: thanks for simplifying rule creating. I've tested v1.5 and it works fine there.
Try the new version (1.5). To filter a domain with all of it's sub-domains, add this rule for domains:
