I have the older version (the non-external host) and use it all the time. However, I'm looking at updating to the newest FF version and want to know if anybody knows of a addon that's similar. I tried to go to his site, but it pops up as non-existent.
Well, I wrote the 'cat's meow' review and it's definitely a pain in the ass to keep losing ACL, every time Firefox is upgraded. The next best solution is to keep your often used links in 'Read It Later'.
you know this is suck crap firefox keeps updating and now i cant use this addon i had all these links saved, why cant firefox make the browser to allow all add ons work it really sucks that you have to keep updating these add ons other programs dont need to update addons plugs ins look at photoshop you never have to update anyplug ins they just work this sucks
Lovely! I lost faith in Firefox 3.0.5 bookmarks retrieval options and tools. Many got corrupted during last few years. I consider ACL the best protection for one's bookmarks. Here is a tweak.
If you have many bookmarks loaded on to ACL, sorting them alphabetically can be done by pressing TAB, go to MOVE UP or MOVE DOWN as the case may be and keep pressing ENTER until all the bookmarks or the ones you added just now get sorted alphabetically.
Do away with mouse. It is tedious to sort them alphabetically with mouse if you have more than 30 all customized links. I have added 130 and they are all safe.
An excellent and efficient add-on that deserves five stars. However I agree with other reviewers about the forced remote hosting of customized links. Please update your add-on to make remote hosting optional so users can choose to keep links local and maintain their privacy. Thank you.
Nice add-on. I have a suggestion/Enhancement for you (I didn't want to register to your site actually, so I am requesting enhancement here). If you can synchronize this add-on with firefox bookmark and Google Bookmarks, so that it can show all bookmark entries of Google and Firefox from the right click menu. Hope you will work on that and make it available. Thanks, Darshak
"Added: All links are now automatically being synced remotely so you can access your links from different machines"
Should be an option. removed till corrected Anytime a comp needs communication with a server, that should be a elective decision, not forced upon. Some of us maintain classified material, and have to watch every open connection.
Always used this EXT and found it to be very well thought out (till now), cpu minimal, and convenient to use.
This really was a mistake. Sincerely, Heidi-Ann Kennedy Scientific Frontline
First it slowed down the firefox browser, I was okay with that, but now it's asking for mandatory user registration? I guess it's back to using bookmarks. Preview feature does not work well with IE tab. One star for becoming annoyed with being forced to register it. Perhaps versions after 1.7 will remove this annoyance?
I really like this add-on and it works exactly as described but the preview window is too sticky - it takes too long to close. Maybe there should be a user settable max display or maybe it should close after the user moves off the link. I look forward to a new version.
Hosing the bookmarks remotely was a very poor choice. This add-on used to be perfect, but requiring me to send potentially private information to an unknown and untrusted server is simply unacceptable. I will NOT be updating until that 'feature' is removed or at least made optional. A very poor decision that ruined a previously excellent and useful extension.
I didn't want too many buttons on my Navigation Toolbar (and I hide the Bookmarks Toolbar) and downloading alot of useless buttons, just to get one for access to the 'Bookmarks Toolbar' (LINKS in 'Explorer'), didn't appeal to me. I searched and searched and finally found 'All Customized Links'. The description of it ends with "the best use of this is using in combination with bookmarking where bookmarking is for general purpose links whereas customized links are for more important and frequently used links." I can't say it any better. It's the cats meow.
