Hijacked my browser settings Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Not cool. This plugin hijacked my browser's about:config settings without my permission, changed my default search to its own and did who knows what else.

Thanks for pointing this out, Mark. We'll correct the search option setting in our next update.
[UPDATE] We have submitted a fix; this page will update as soon as Mozilla approves it. Until then, find Sparky version 1.7.1 under Version Information, below. Click on "See complete version history" to access the patched Sparky. Thanks!

Thanks for the FF 6.0 tip. I love having a sites alexa ranking, but I didn't want to install a toolbar. The only toolbar I use is Boounce.

get a version that works in FF6.0 from alexa's website Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Sparky 1.5.0 doesn't work in Firefox 6.0. But you can get a version that does work in Firefox 6.0 from alexa's website. Go to www.alexa.com/toolbar, and select "Install as Statusbar."

Problems in Firefox 4.0 Version 10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I love Alexa! I use it all the time with my customers to show them where their sites rank and them help them improve their rankings. This a fantastic program.
Problem: I have installed it 4 times now in Firefox 4 and it doesn't show up like it should. Help!

Cool extension. Can be very useful for webmaster. I am using it every day, to compare my websites with others (% reach, traffic rank, etc...).

I don't like giving my info to Alexa, esp. given they are owned by the insatiable and nasty Amazon.com, but it's helpful for seeing rankings on the fly.

Noting caveat, at this point one of my favorite add-ons; my top is still Bargain Book Mole which lets me find the lowest used and new book prices on the fly, from any website.

outdated Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is an outdated extension. Version 2.0 is on their website and is much better then this one with lots of new features.

Quick and dirty check of site popularity Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I use Alexa Sparky as a very quick way of finding the relative popularity of a web site - I mainly benchmark the ranks against my own sites. For example, my main site has a ranking which is half the rank of the site used for my wife's business. My site gets around twice the traffic she gets. Therefore I can assume sites with lower rankings get less traffic than me, sites with higher rankings get more traffic.

There is one odd thing about this. My site's ranking has fallen away dramatically in recent months -- I've fallen from around 295,000 to 470,000 -- but the traffic measured by Google Analytics and my own logs has doubled. I guess this is because Sparky is mainly used by webmasters and my site doesn't appeal to them.

alexa is too invasive Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Alexa is too invasive. This reminds me of AOL. It's a pig to remove and even if you think you have you probably havent.
I've tried 4 different ways in three days and it keeps coming back. In my opinion, if it is hard to remove it is because the information it gets from you is ultra important to marketing. I'm determined to see it go even if I have to buy every spyware software out there(which probably have backhanders to allow the prgram to work underhand anyhow!)

uninstalling is easy

Sorry to hear you're unhappy with Sparky, Mytimeto. However, uninstalling is easy. In your browser, simply select Tools -> Add-ons, and then click "Uninstall" next to "Alexa Sparky". That's it! It'll be gone for good. Of course, we'd love to hear why you're unhappy with it and how we can make it better, so feel free to drop us a line.

Spyware Rated 1 out of 5 stars

With this addon were added bad information on a site profile. On Alexa "Clictsream", the Upstream Sites are simply false, because there are not direct links (no REFERER) to a single Site, but only your "private navigation" data. This addon checks continuosly your web surfing and it affect your privacy.

It can take your confidential data .... "ALEXA'S TOOLBAR SERVICE COLLECTS AND STORES INFORMATION ABOUT THE WEB PAGES YOU VIEW, THE DATA YOU ENTER IN ONLINE FORMS AND SEARCH FIELDS...SOME INFORMATION COLLECTED BY THE TOOLBAR SERVICE IS PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE".

So, BE CAREFUL , read the View privacy policy (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addons/policy/0/5362) before installing and using this spyware addon.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.4.7).

Please do read the privacy policy before installing!

Yes, when you use the Alexa Toolbar, you are indeed sending the URLs you visit back to Alexa. We use this data to rank websites, determine upstream/downstream sites, discover what's hot, and a myriad of other things. Currently there are millions of people who willingly share this information because they want to contribute to everyone's understanding of what sites are popular, and how sites are related to each other by their audience and not just their links.

If, however, you're not comfortable sharing this information, then please don't install the Alexa Toolbar. It's not for everyone, and if it's not for you then please don't use it.

Also, we hope to very soon release a version of Sparky that allows you to turn sharing off. We take privacy very seriously, and we're not here to trick anyone into doing anything they might be uncomfortable with.
