Foiled by Firefox 38, Part Deux Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Eureka! After much research and experimentation, I found that using about:config to set the value of "browser.preferences.InContent" to false displays Options in the old floating window and allows them to work in Aeon Clouds. False was apparently the default before Firefox v38, but FF 38 changes the default value to true and thus opens Options in a fixed tab that does not presently work in Aeon Clouds.

The new default value of true (tab) in FF 38 does work with Firefox's default theme and several other themes, but not Aeon Clouds. For those of us willing to accept Options in the old floating window (false), Aeon Clouds can be made to work in Firefox 38. Alas, users who want Options in a tab (true) must either switch to a new theme to stay in FF 38 or else roll back to FF 37 in order to keep Aeon Clouds.

Because of this shortcoming, I award Aeon Clouds four stars for now. If and when Aeon Clouds is modified to also allow Options to function in a tab (true), then it will get the five-star rating it so richly deserves.

Thank you for your efforts

I have tried your work-around and it does do the job. I will be gone for the next week, so I can't even start on a fix. It will take at least another week after I get back. Sorry for the hassle.

Foiled by Firefox 38 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I, too, encountered the failed Options menu with Aeon Clouds under Firefox v38. Default Firefox theme works fine. However, I rolled back to v37 just to preserve Aeon Clouds because I love it so much. Were it not for this glitch, I would award six stars!

Hope Aeon Clouds can be modified to work with versions of Firefox beyond v37. Would also love to know from "curmudgeon" or anyone else the details of exactly how to tweak about:config to restore old style (floating window) "Options" feature.

It's Baaack! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I had been using Aeon Clouds exclusively since January 2010 (v3.6) and quickly grew to love its calm, classy appearance. I was crushed when Firefox 29 was released and Aeon Clouds no longer displayed the tabs properly with Classic Theme Restorer installed and the "Tabs not on top" option selected. Much to my delight, the tabs have miraculously re-appeared with Aeon Clouds v7.2. Many thanks to the developer!

The only lingering deficiency: I would like to see the blue cloud pattern applied to the Add-on Bar at the bottom, but that's just nitpicking. So glad to have the basics back!

Might work with FF14.0 but not 14.0.1 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

For several years now, Aeon Clouds has been my absolute favorite Firefox theme. However, I just updated Firefox to version 14.0.1 today, and much to my dismay, Aeon Clouds 5.0 no longer worked.

When I opened the jar file in an archive program to look at the "install.rdf" file inside, I was surprised to see that the maxVersion value was set to 5.*. Not sure why Aeon Clouds worked properly with all versions of Firefox through 13.0.1, but it has now inexplicably stopped working with FF 14.0.1. I did manage to edit the maxVersion value to 14.*, but only WinZip and 7-Zip retained the edit change; IZArc, FilZip, PeaZip, and TugZip all failed to preserve the edited file.

For the benefit of all users, it sure would be worthwhile if the jar file could be updated in such a way that Aeon Clouds will work for newer versions of Firefox without any manual intervention.

Oops! My mistake Rated 4 out of 5 stars

In my previous review, I meant to say the problem is in the add-on manager, not icon manager. Sorry.

Slight tweak needed Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Just installed Firefox 6.0.1. In the icon manager, version 5.0 of Aeon Cloud fails to display at least three icons to the left: the ones indicating extensions/add-ons, appearance/themes, and plugins. This has long been my theme of choice: clear icons perfectly sized, soothing color, etc. As of now, this mild quirk is the only reason I did not award 5 stars. Hope to see a fix soon.
