About this Add-on
Due to a change in Firefox 22, this add-on no longer functions correctly. Due to lack of usage, it is being discontinued. If you liked this add-on, you may find our SearchRater add-on useful.
As of September 24, 2014, the API used by this add-on has been discontinued.
AdRater is an extension for the Firefox browser which rates advertiser legitimacy for text ads on web pages. Ratings come from the SiteTruth rating system.
AdRater will place a rating icon alongside each Google text ad on every web page you visit. These icons show SiteTruth's automated opinion of the legitimacy of the advertiser. Ratings are based on multiple data sources, including secure certificates, business addresses on web sites, large lists of businesses, and other sources. They are not customer opinions.
SiteTruth takes a hard line on site legitimacy. If SiteTruth can't find the business address of the organization behind the site, and the site appears to be commercial, it will receive a low rating.
The rating process is automated and transparent. For a detailed explanation of how any rating was decided, click on the rating icon.
SiteTruth rankings are also available for search results with our Ad Limiter add-on.
Version 1.1 will run under Firefox 2.0 to 3.6.
Version 1.0 will run under Firefox 2.0 to 3.5.
Our previous Greasemonkey version was available for several years; the Firefox plug-in is identical in function.
To create your own collections, you must have a Mozilla Add-ons account.
If we change any of this, the changes will not take effect until you download and install a new version of AdRater.
AdRater does not rate ads on secure pages, so no information about a secure page is ever sent to our servers.
