Popup Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Please fix this annoying popup when i select for restart the question "Not now". On every open Tab it comes.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.4.1-signed).

It's a built in (hidden for now) option to not have the popup come back. Set extensions.UpdateAddon.LessAggressive to true in about:config (http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config). It was only in the release notes of an earlier beta version.

Very handy, a good solution for folks who still want control over their environment. The ability to filter certain extensions is handy for developers as well.

I'm going to assume this is Stylish's fault, but userstyles will only update through the Add-ons Manager. Is there a workaround for this issue?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.3.1-signed).

I didn't know it was broken. I don't use Stylish. I looked in to the problem. Stylish stores its ids as numbers (integers in Javascript.) Firefox looks for "strings". I now convert them. The fixed version is posted now, but not reviewed by Mozilla yet. You can click the "Version Information" link at the bottom of this page and then click on "Version 2.3". It will take you to a page where you can get version 2.4, or just wait a few days for Mozilla to approve it and it will show up on the main page here.

great addon - thank you :-)

Very nice Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Apart from the very irritating restart popup message that appears in the address bar, the addon is very cool. It's a pretty nice descendant of an older similar addon.

My suggestions:
- Make the restart popup appear where the toolbar icon is (if visible) and not on the start of the addressbar.
- Make the restart popup window disappear after a configurable timeout (3-5 seconds would be nice as default) and NEVER appear again, unless another addon is updated. It's extremely irritating to stop your work to close the popup, only for it to appear everytime you open/close a new tab. OK, i updated my addons, i DO NOT want to restart, period. No need to be reminded every 5 seconds.
- Time between checks could also contain a "3 hours" period. For those people working 8 hrs a day, it may be convenient to check twice a day for new addons.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.1-signed).

The built-in popup mechanism will only open at the start of the address bar. I have seen other extensions that use something that looks similar, but they make the popup internally to their extension. I'm not going to do that. There is also no way to hide the door hanger automatically without also hiding the icon, so I don't want to add that either. However, there is a "hidden" setting you might want to activate (it will probably make it into the options page someday.) Enter about:config in the address bar and search for extensions.UpdateAddon.LessAggressive . Double-click to set it to true. The popup will stop coming back on tab selection. If you don't want to do that, you could also select "Hide this notification" from the drop down in the popup itself (the arrow next to "Install updates"), but you have to do that every time you get an update. While you are in the about:config, you can also select 3 hours between checks. Set extensions.UpdateAddon.CheckTime to 3 . I have looked into making the drop down in the options panel an input box as well, but so far I haven't came up with a way I like that has the drop downs and allows input. Maybe in a future version though.

Add-on Update Checker 2.0 works like a charm with FF 10.0.7 ESR. No more RAM needed with this extension. Thanks Chris!

Every time I hit the icon, the green "working" symbol goes on forever and ever and ever and ever. I don't understand the positive ratings. Am I missing something?

Excelent Add-on! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Excellent add-on!

It helps me to speed up firefox start enormously. Without the "Add-on Update Checker": 32 seconds, with "Add-on Update Checker": only 6 seconds!

Thank you very much!

Just thought I should leave some feedback on version 2.0beta2. I find annoying the change in the persistent across 5 urls update notifying popup. Version 2.0beta1 was perfect when the popup went away upon changing the tab.

Response to developer:

Thanks for that option. Upgrading to beta 3.

I just posted 2.0 beta 3. I've added hidden option you can get to through about:config
extensions.UpdateAddon.LessAggressive
set to true and notifications won't come back on tab change. The icon still shows in the url bar through 5 url changes, but the popup shouldn't come back.

The 1.13 beta versions have been working well, any plans to graduate them to stable soon?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.12.1-signed).  This user has 4 previous reviews of this add-on.

I have one more beta to post (additions to the settings page and one variable I didn't initialize properly that could show a warning even though it worked.) I think it will become the final version after translation. I plan on posting it here and on Babelzilla (for translation) in the next few days. I'll probably give the translators a week before I post it here as a stable release (it takes a few weeks after I post it for Mozilla to review it and release it after that, so I'd guess a month before final release.)

An Alternative Update Add-on Rated 3 out of 5 stars

It appears that this could be a good alternative to the other add-on called 'Update Notifier'..... But the latter cooperates with FF Updater as they both get the same updates at the same time. The UN has a small button icon you can put on any toolbars you have as well it can be shown in the status tray. Check it out..... p5

Good functionality, but ugly button Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Wel first thing to say, it work as it have to. Great. But what I don't like about this add-on is the BIG UGLY toolbar button. With update notifier you had a small one. That was really nicer (in my opninion). Now a day I use it on my crap machine, and on my "normal" machine i update Thunderbird by hand not with this Add-on. When ther will be a small button, I will use it also on my "normal" machine.
Last but not least, Keep up the good work (and try to make the button compact in the future).

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.12.1-signed).

Another user (rob64rock) created a userstyle that hides the drop marker and menu until an update is found which makes the button look like the one from Update notifier http://userstyles.org/styles/53823/fx-6-hide-ext-auc-button-dropmarker-if-not-needed . You can use Stylish or userChrome.css to use it. I'm using that specific button style (built-in to Firefox) so you can just click the button instead of having to go to a sub menu to check for updates. I will not be changing that.

Although I do love automatic updating on startup, the inaccessibility from Firefox menu is huge bummer.

Hopefully coming in the next version (after 1.12 which is already awaiting Mozilla review.)

Blacklist Add-on Update Checking Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Can you please tell how to add name of the Add-on to the blacklist?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.10.1-signed).

Go to About:config (in the url bar.) Enter extensions.UpdateAddon.BlackList into the filter box. Double-click that entry (or right-click and select modify.) Type names of themes/extensions/plugins/etc., separated with a comma, into the box and click OK. The next time the extension runs they won't be checked. It will be much easier when I release the next version. An entry will show up in the extension's options page. I'm going to wait until tomorrow for translations and then will post it here. It will take a few weeks to be reviewed and approved by the editors.

Nice work !
Work well and add this missing functionnality to Firefox.

A little bug: the caption of the extension in the update tooltip (http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3056/updateee.png).

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.8.1-signed).

I think it's fixed with version 1.9 (not reviewed yet, but can be found under "Version Information" > "Version 1.8" link.) Although I was never able to reproduce the error, instead of filling the tooltip as extensions report back, now I wait until they all report back and then fill the tooltip from an array.

Feature request Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks for this extension that replace upadte notifier, that now seems discontinued.
Now that this extension has popups, the only feature I miss is a right click menu on the icon, with voices such as "install all updates" (without open addons page), "reboot firefox", install and reboot, "options".
So the icon could work this way:
- left click: check for updates
- right click: opens context menu
- double (left) click: opens addons manager (now performed by right click menu).
Five stars upon trust and for the good work!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.7.1-signed).

I doubt I'll be able to do this. I posted a full explanation of the support page.

So is it an "addon" or "add-on" - that is the question. :)

Seriously though, this add-on is the best. I love it and am very grateful that you wrote it. It is so nice having the icon in the toolbar and not have to open a separate tab, select the "check for updates" from the dropdown, then wait to see what's new. The ability to see when updates are available at a glance and install them when *I* want is AWESOME. Thank you!
