Does not work Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I've tried this out with a few pages and the add-on doesn't seem to work properly. Even after clicking on the button the extension adds to your toolbar, I don't see the archive.org version of the page.

Reading 'about this add-on' helps

It explains there problems and solution.

Very useful addon but needs two more features Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very useful, but I'd like the following two features:
- Sometimes, the 404 error may not be as obvious so the plugin may not recognise it. Like this: http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/12784/fractals-in-physics-suggest-book-titles So it would be good to have a little button (which can be added through an option may be) that allows one to see the archives of any webpage.
- An option to add a button that actually archives the current page (which isn't deleted *yet*) by going to web.archive.org/save/URLOFCURRENTPAGE

It may be nice to have a single button with two options, "See archives for current webpage" and "Archive current webpage" which appear on all webpages. And then I'll give you 5 stars : )

It may also be a good idea to make the button a bit prettier than the existing button (which does nothing, actually).

Great Plugin that I used a Lot - alas it no longer works with Firefox 20.0.1 - Hope the dev sees this message and can update the plugin - if not , thanks for everything!

P.S. this is a 5 star plugin thats only gotten 4 because it no longer works with the new Firefox. Pretty sure Mozilla is at fault here ;)

there's a quick fix

please read the 'IMPORTANT' section in 'about the plugin' section...

cheers!

Ok, this is my favourite addon. Because it is so small yet has been so useful to me so often in the past. Even when it doesn't detect a 404 (i suppose because the site's code isn't standard) I use the context menu. Thanks for this one!

A smart little extension that makes a lot of sense.

Possibly it could be even better if it had the option to also look for "live" versions of the desired page, by querying e.g. undeadlinks.org or some such site for the lookup.

Works properly, yes, but agree that sometimes there's no result at the end, but not developper's fault, but Not Archived pages !

not in archive

that page is not in archive, so it cannot be found. logical?

"The Archive contains over 100 terabytes and 10 billion web pages archived from 1996 to the present."

Useful, could do more Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Works for page not found errors, but does not work for couldn't connect to host errors. Now I have to try all the competing extensions!

Also, the popup is a bit annoying, hacking the button inside the page with error or as an overlay for the page with error would be way more cool.

good suggestion

thanks for suggestions. will try to add host errors for next version. in the meantime, you can use 'archive' button that you can place on the toolbar. when you click on it, you will see archived page.

i agree that popup can get annoying if many error pages are encountered in a short time, but won't be fixing that for a while as it doesn't happen that often to me :P

unimpressed with the functionality of this add on. I still encountered many 404 Page error on pages.
frustrating when something that says it does and doesn't. This add on was part of my computer crashing.
Up to you to decide.

read description

interesting... i didn't receive a complaint from anyone else, and there were more than 60,000 downloads. maybe something else was crashing your computer...

also in regards to 'I still encountered many 404 Page error on pages. frustrating when something that says it does and doesn't.', you obviously didn't read description and when exceptions occur if you were expecting it to find every missing page...

UPDATE: i now see that in Firefox3.0 on GNU Linux, 'whitelist' option doesn't work if permission of 'whitelist.txt' file is not set properly -- just change permission and it will work.

Great extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Fantastic extension. It does exactly what it's supposed in a simple manner. I've already found it useful within a few hours of installing it.

Simple and works as it should, add some options Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The archive.org button works as expected on pages that are down or have a different page not found message, and the page automatically loads an archived version of the page when '404 - Page Not Found' is in the title. All in all, a simple extension that does what it says.

However, I find it funny that visiting the extension page AMO triggers the loading of a page from archive.org due to the extension's name. Consider changing the name, as it's very distracting. If possible, make the automatic loading an option you can turn off, with possibly a whitelist so that false positives won't be loaded again. Thanks!

title fixed

originally i left it as a simple test that extension works, but realized it can be confusing...
