by Worldwaker, 9 months agoThis addon has recently been "sponsored" by a company called Lesno.ai and pushed advertisements directly into every single use of the addon, by default.
This is no longer anything but a thinly veiled data and image harvesting tool by Lesno.ai and frankly should not be used by anyone.
Using this addon now directly sends all search data to Lesno.ai, be warned.
You can verify my claim by simply visiting the github in the extension description and reading the changelog: 8.1.0 (2025-01-07)

posted 9 months agoOpen source projects can be sponsored, and it's perfectly fine to list sponsors at the bottom of the settings page. I'm not sure what kind of advertisements and data harvesting tool are you seeing, but anyone can indeed verify that you're making stuff up by going to GitHub.
This is the commit that lists the logo of sponsors on the options page of the extension:
https://github.com/dessant/search-by-image/commit/b8de70371695f8f1fa8069d2edbfaa4c7b705dc8
It's a local image, with a link to the website of a sponsor.
Please don't spread false information about my projects, I have never collected any kind of personal data. I have reported your review to Mozilla.

I don't like that I need 2 steps in the context menu to get to what my default engine is. I wish I could set a default engine to use and when I click on "Search by Image" option on the main context option it would use the default I set, but when you hover, the sub menu opens like now and you can choose another engine. I would love to drop the second step. It feels if I use this a thousand times a day and now it is 2000 because of second step. :-)
Brilliant Add-on, I love that we have an option of X reverse engines all in one 10 out of 10 for that. So sad about the old Google reverse image lookup no longer working. I am also using "Image Max URL" Add-on now and I can highly recommend this one also, wonderful for finding larger or better images of you image.Developer response
posted 25 days agoI'm glad you like the extension! Extensions can only add a single top-level context menu item, but you could disable the rest of the search engines from the extension's options to search with your preferred engine from the context menu, without having to open a submenu. The drawback is that the "Open image" tool would no longer be accessible from the context menu and the browser toolbar.
If you have more than one engine enabled, and you would like to initiate a search with all of them from a top-level context menu item, you could also set the "Search all engines" option to "From context menu". That way the rest of the features would still remain accessible from the browser toolbar popup.
The legacy Google service is still available in the extension, now listed as Google Images (deprecated), but it only works for some users, you can enable it from the extension's options. People in the EU have had some luck restoring access to the service by using a Google account and following this guide: https://github.com/dessant/search-by-image/issues/309. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19634657, a month ago

- Rated 5 out of 5by Sunny, 4 months agoIt works pretty well for searching for images on a webpage, however I kind of wish it worked a bit more like what is available on Google Chrome, where you can select an area of the webpage (kind of like screenshotting) to search on websites that have some sort of overlay on the images.
Developer response
posted 4 months agoYou can select an area of the web page using the Capture search mode. The search mode can be set independently for the context menu and the browser toolbar from the extension's options.
You could also enable the "Use deep search when selecting images" option to continue searching with the Select URL or Select Image search modes. When enabled, the extension extracts all images from the clicked area, even if an overlay image was immediately found. If multiple images are found, you can select the one you need from a popup that lists the images along with their dimensions. - Rated 5 out of 5by paulo_Brasil, 4 months agoThis tool is incredible.
Not only for the Image Search itself, but mainly for the "Open Image" function.
The Open Image feature should be an extension of its own.
No exaggeration, it's probably the one I use the most daily, of all extensions or native features on Firefox!Developer response
posted 4 months agoHi, I'm happy you find the extension useful! You could also experiment with the options listed below to extract potentially larger versions of the image from the source code of the page. These options are not enabled by default because it takes a bit longer to download all variants of the selected image.
* Use deep search when selecting images
* Detect alternative image sizes - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 19488466, 4 months ago
