Latest version
Version 1.0.0
Released 3 Jun 2026 - 26.7 kBWorks with firefox 142.0 and laterInitial release of FireEfficient.
What's new:
- Modern ECO/MAX interface for quickly seeing how the current tab is being treated.
- User-managed MAX list for sites that should stay fully responsive and protected from automatic offload.
- ECO intensity modes: Light, Balanced, and Strict.
- Adaptive offload timing that can shorten the discard delay when many ECO tabs are loaded.
- Unsaved form protection so tabs with typed drafts are skipped by automatic offload.
- Popup counters for tabs currently offloaded, session offloads, and optional request blocks.
- Optional Strict-mode request savings for beacons, pings, Firefox-classified trackers, embedded objects, third-party media, fonts, and WebSockets.
What's changed:
- Network request savings are off by default and use optional Firefox permissions, so uBlock Origin can remain your main request blocker unless you explicitly enable FireEfficient's request savings.
- Settings are stored locally in Firefox and are never sent to a remote service.
- The extension UI was redesigned to make the tradeoffs clearer and easier to adjust.
- Security hardening includes a strict extension content security policy, validated background messages, no remote code, no dynamic script execution, and no web-accessible resources.
Known limitation:
- Firefox does not expose per-tab hardware acceleration controls to extensions. FireEfficient focuses on Firefox-supported efficiency tools such as tab discard controls, page motion/media quieting, and optional request savings.Source code released under MIT Licence
