About this extension
📖 Full Description
MathPause is a website blocker designed to help you reduce distractions and build more intentional browsing habits.
Instead of simply blocking websites, MathPause adds a small pause before access by requiring you to solve a math problem. This interruption helps reduce impulsive visits and encourages more mindful use of distracting sites.
You can control when websites are available, limit daily usage, and track your browsing behavior directly in your browser.
🔒 How It Works
When you visit a restricted website, MathPause checks the current schedule and applies one of three modes:
• Hard period – The website is completely blocked.
• Soft period – You must solve a math problem to unlock access.
• Free period – The website is always accessible.
If no schedule matches the current time, Soft mode is used by default.
During Soft mode, MathPause generates a random math problem. The site becomes accessible only after the correct answer is entered.
This small mental step helps interrupt automatic browsing.
⏱ Time & Usage Control
MathPause provides several ways to control website access:
• Set a daily usage limit (minutes per day)
• Choose how long a site remains unlocked after solving a math problem
• Enable an optional cooldown timer between unlocks
• Create global time schedules using 24-hour format (HH:MM)
• Support for overnight schedules (for example 22:00–06:00)
When the daily limit is reached, access to restricted sites will be blocked.
🧠 Focus Tools
Additional tools help reinforce focused browsing:
• Stay Away mode – temporarily block selected sites for a fixed period (15 / 30 / 60 minutes or custom)
• Math problem difficulty settings (Easy / Normal / Hard)
• Option to enable or disable the challenge display
• The math challenge can also be disabled, allowing you to unlock sites without solving a problem
These features make it easier to step away from distracting websites when needed.
📊 Usage Tracking
MathPause records simple local statistics to help you understand your browsing habits:
• Daily unlock time
• Time spent in Stay Away mode
• 7-day usage history
All statistics are stored locally in your browser.
⚙ Customization
From the options page you can:
• Add or remove restricted websites
• Set your daily usage limit
• Enable or disable cooldown timers
• Configure Hard / Soft / Free time schedules
• Adjust math problem difficulty
• Prevent opening the settings page during Hard mode
🔐 Privacy
MathPause does not collect or transmit any personal data.
All settings and usage statistics are stored locally in your browser.
