DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials

Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

I had this installed in a bunch of my old Firefox profiles so I eventually checked it out before removing it.

It's probably an interesting extension for the privacy-illiterates who can't be bothered to install more than one privacy-related extension and couldn't care less about what happens under the hood. But its incredibly minimalist interface makes it very hard to understand what it really does, so I feel much better protected using my usual Ghostery + uBlock + HTTPS Everywhere + Smart Referer + ScripSafe.
Of course, I'm keeping DDG as my default search engine though ^^

@previous review author: Startpage still uses Google under the hood (it's basically an "anonymous" proxy towards Google), so IMHO DDG is way better as it doesn't feed Google data. Startpage can still be interesting when you really really want to use Google but still want it to be slightly more private than the normal way of using it.

FoxyProxy Standard

Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I used that add-on a bit pre-Fx 57, and it felt quite bloated at the time.

I tried it again after the WebExtension mayhem, and I really like this new version. For my rather simple use case (being able to use and switch between a bunch of SOCKS5 proxies that require username+password), it's quite perfect. I also like that it's easy to import/export settings, so that I can duplicate my config between my several profiles.

As someone else said, it would be nice to be able to disable logging, and apparently that feature is coming soon :)

ScriptSafe

Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I've been using this in Vivaldi for a while, glad to see it come to Firefox (I guess that's the first good thing to come out of that WebExtension nonsense).
Tons of features that are not covered by the name (focused on scripts, while I haven't seen an extension with so rich privacy features)

StoragErazor

Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

Incompatible with ScriptSafe.

The add-on description says "The addon does not touch the IndexedDB databases created by other addons, only those which were created by websites", but it actually wipes out all ScriptSafe settings :/

Edit: I don't know how ScriptSafe save their settings, but I know that whenever I have both ScriptSafe and StorageErazor enabled, my ScriptSafe settings get nuked every time I restart Firefox. Turning off StorageErazor solves the issue. None of my other extensions seem affected by StorageErazor.

Twitter2Gab

Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Hurray for making it easier to switch to Gab :)

YesScript2

Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

Nice replacement to YesScript after the WebExtension Armageddon.

That being said, I'm not sure what to think of that "half blocking" state. It seems smart at first, but I already use other extensions to block toxic external scripts (uBlock & Ghostery), so I'm not sure I'll ever really need it. In all the time I've used YesScript, I've never felt the need for a partial block. Meanwhile, the interesting state (block all) is now 2 clicks away instead of one (not to mention the auto-reload). It would be better to have half blocking in last position IMHO

Edit (since unfortunately it's impossible to reply to replies): I don't think many users of this add-on don't also have stuff like uBlock. That would be an interesting stat to have though.

Smart Referer

Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I installed this as a replacement to RefControl, because of that WebExtension mess.

I just installed it, so I'll have to test it longer to be sure, but so far I like the concept of only forging cross-doman requests: that seems like a smart way to avoid most of the trouble that could be caused by forging everything like I used to.

Stylish - Custom themes for any website

Nice extension, hoping it will survive Fx57 Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Ironically, I installed this extension because I needed a style to fix AMO's collection system because I decided to create a collection of my add-ons before Fx 57, and this extension itself, too, might get killed by Fx 57.

RefControl

I hope Fx 57 won't kill it Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Very useful extension, I basically forge all my referers unless it ends up breaking a stupid site that requires a proper referer for some bad reason.

I hope it gets ported to Fx 57... if that's even possible with that horrible WebExtension horror.

Tamper Data

Unique extension Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I've been using it for ages. It's one of those extensions that make me really hate the "upgrade" to that horrible WebExtension poop. Thanks Google f***ers :x

Cookies Manager+

Blocker for Fx 57? Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Apparently this add-on won't work with Fx 57 and later. It's a shame how Mozilla keeps showing a total disrespect to add-on developers by making so much of their work go to waste...

Tabgruppen

Sad to see it go Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Tab groups were really an awesome feature in Fx. But Mozilla likes to break things, and after killing the feature in core, now they kill it a second time by making this extension too much of a pain to maintain.

Thank you for trying. I used to develop extensions and I gave up too, for the same reason as you...

User Agent Switcher

Turns itself off at every restart Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

The user agent is a trivial to change setting (via general.useragent.override). The whole point of having an extension, for me, would be to conveniently "bookmark" a bunch of user agents, while keeping a similar behavior as with general.useragent.override, ie once you set it, you keep it until you change it back.
Unfortunately, every time you restart the browser, the extension switches back to the default user agent. Spoofing failed....

Small Tabs

Essential indeed Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I just dropped Cyberfox because it's being discontinued, but I really hate those fat uncompact tabs that quickly turn into a scrolling maze that we have in Firefox.

Gladly, this add-on seems to reproduce Cyberfox's behavior of small icons and tabs (even more compact tabs, actually, I think).

Tabgruppen

Does replace Panorama properly Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Saved my life after the idiots in charge decided it would be a good idea to remove Panorama. Works just as good as Panorama + adds a few neat options. So good stuff, even though that's yet one more add-on to my setup.

Last but not least, unlike what happened with many previous core features that got moved into extensions, this time the add-on developer doesn't seem to be someone responsible for the feature removal.

Custom Tab Width

Never encourage this developer, here's why Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

Dão Gottwald, the creator of this add-on, is the same person responsible for the removal of "about:config" settings that let you customize tab widths. See for yourself: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=574654

Now that's one more extension just to fix his mess...

Adblock Edge

Sad it's been discontinued Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I have to add to the list of comments who miss this great add-on. The suggested replacement uBlock might offer superior speed, but it's not nearly as customizable. ABE is (was) a lot better, it's sad it's gone :(

Classic Compact

Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Still one of my favorite extensions. Sadly I switched to Aurora, and Aurora forcefully disabled it, even though I disabled compatibility checking and it worked decently in Nightly :/ (apart from some minor glitch). However this made me realize Fx has noticeably better performances without this add-on. Anyone else noticing the same behavior?

Easy YouTube Video Downloader

Bewertet mit 2 von 5 Sternen

To begin with, it's a demo version. I guess that's fair enough so far.
But: 1) it keeps begging you to upgrade (the menu doesn't filter out nor even tag options from the full version) and 2) even the full version doesn't seem to offer WebM.
I'll just be waiting till jDownloader update their Youtube support again...

Backward Forward History Dropdown

Should NEVER have been removed in the first place Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Too bad add-on developers need to do the job of core developers because the latest make moronic design choices. Still, thanks a lot for this fix.
