Cannot currently export Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I'm pleased to see you are still there. I hope you are well.

Is there a limit on the number of tabs saved?
I have built up a lot of them, now I have a problem: the export will not work.
It goes to the Export page, has the ">Import URLs" prompt, but the "vExport URLs" never shows.

Before this, one-tab loading was taking considerable time. I wonder if that can be speeded up?

I have tried temporarily saving the database elsewhere
then reducing the size by individual deletes (tedious, but reduces total size from 682kb to 424kb). Still it does not export at all.

I should say that the laptop is struggling a bit, so it could be that lack of resources is causing a problem from which FF is not recovering properly - or else there is some corruption, although I have recently re-installed FF to see if that would work - or else there could be some interaction with other addons.

Is there some good way to re-set the extension without loss of data? I might try transferring the database to another instance of firefox.

Vertical Toolbar

Tooltips etc? Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Glad it's working again, thanks.

Very, very useful for uncluttering the awesome bar, so my URL box is now a proper size.

Double width icons (dropdown arrows), and some rogue large icons are still a problem; I shunt them into the control panel if I don't need them for status.

Mouse-over tooltips?
Did VTB once show tooltips for the various addons?
I sometimes forget which they are, a name would be useful as a a substitute for recall - plus I believe some addons show info on hover (I don't know if moz devs have stopped that). Also some have animated gifs, I'm unsure if those display well.

Free Memory 2.0

Very good, but Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Very good, prevents FF overloading RAM.

Style, though:
the confirmation panel is far too obtrusive, and even demands my action.
I know you are 'important' in yourself, but could you make it about 1/4 of the size, please, and fade out on a 2-second timer? (I hoped the panel size options referred to the notify panel. Alas not.)

Similarly, the option panel has needless white space, I'd prefer something compact.

Also include the "measure and save" options? Sometimes that would be helpful.

Calomel SSL Validation

Suitable standard letter needed Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Like others, I'm surprised how many sites fail, juicy sites which could well be targeted.

Some however seem to be behind multiple firewalls. Perhaps they think that is adequate protection (I doubt it), and when I see a blank in the route for some essential content, I can have no certainty where it's from.

Could Calomel supply something like a standard letter to send to these companies which might grab their attention more than a note from an individual? Automate it, even.

Vertical Tabs Reloaded

kills vertical-toolbar Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Unfortunately it kills
I suppose that is not unexpected. (Can be recovered with settings by removing both & re-installing vertical-toolbar.)

In the brief time I tried vertical tabs reload (I had used it before), I was disappointed there is no auto-hide - although the pull-out is almost as good.
It confused me that I couldn't find the tab-close x with a small width, but perhaps that was my fault.

Case Change Tool

SpLeNdiD. Strike-thru enhancement please Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I found this for a friend of mine who doesn't touch-type either.
FASCINATING that it works on 'protected' web text as well.

Two requests:
I would really like the ability to S̶t̶r̶i̶k̶e̶t̶h̶r̶o̶u̶g̶h̶ selected text (perhaps \\ as well).
WTFM! (Write...) I know it's terribly tedious, but PLeAsE, just a little documentation? Rather than having us guess and tax our ESP abilities?
It's very easy. Here: "Highlight text, right-click, select type of change from CaseChange sub-menu (hover), click. Works on text outside text-boxes too, by changing page source."

I don't know if it's possible to do effective italicisation/embolding/underlining by this route. I use hotkeys for those.

I like Sarah Jade's suggestion to have single-letter selection from the change-case sub-menu (U, L, S etc.. Shift key would be cute).

Next I nede something to corrrect my typos. But that would be bloat.

Archive Everything

no button Bewertet mit 3 von 5 Sternen

Seems like a good idea.
However the essential icon button is absent in current FF.
So cannot invoke the process.
(Maybe it is on the defunct status bar.)

Also, could there be options, including the Wayback engine?

Addon List Dumper (restartless)

now not working in Firefox 39.0 Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

UPDATE: the next day, after a linux update, the list icon has reappeared. It's usable but not perfect. (returm to "****")
Save-to-clipboard seems not to work.
(firefox:3157): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_clipboard_set_with_data: assertion 'targets != NULL' failed
print works, save-to-file seems not to work.
One can usefully copy-paste from the display panel.
Options do not persist between calls.

Was not exhibiting the icon it needs to start the process. (fixed after linux update next day)

I surmise that FF devs have turned the 'deprecated widget' handler into a hard fault, which has broken at least one other extension. (fixed at higher level?)

I hope this can be fixed! (Please)

The other list-extensions addon (needed re-start) from 2011 wasn't working for me, by the way.
If you are a user in need of a list of addons, and if this is not working for you, you can try about:support (in the address bar).

Disable Hello, Pocket & Reader+

Since it seems impossible for me to leave a full review here without it being censored by some unknown hand (I thoroughly disapprove of that, btw), I'll just say a thanks to the author and leave some stars.

Flash Control

not sure Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

I'm not sure exactly what this does - is it only to stop video autoplay, or does it change any flash parameters?
Does it actually enhance privacy by stopping flash leaking IP info (as I've seen claimed elsewhere), or merely optionally turn off the plugin?

Meanwhile, I'm getting annoying hangs (linux, limited memory, so not necessarily this extension), with nothing remarkable in the process manager, not even plugin-container over-running (as it does).
One anomaly I do see is (running FF in console):

** (firefox:5269): CRITICAL **: gst_app_src_set_size: assertion 'GST_IS_APP_SRC (appsrc)' failed
console.error: flashctrl:
Message: Error: The page is currently hidden and can no longer be used until it is visible again.

I'm not using any private windows or hidden pages that I know,ut this could be a technical thing. How critical is it?

Review vanished. Was is censored? - reprint part 1 Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Originally posted Pocket day zero, 17 June 2015, this review (and reply) subsequently vanished. Strange, unheard-of.
I certainly didn't rescind it.
Maybe it was censored by a robot, or by some touchy element of Mozillla. (Is it permitted to criticise Mozilla? This isn't exactly the right forum, but some criticism is relevant.)

Let's see if we can narrow it down.

review Part 1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You were quick off the mark!!

Pocket introduced today and I've already been able to dump it.

What a sell-out by new Mozilla!

Giving this five star in faith that it works.
It may keep some bloggers alive a little longer.

I had already changed about:config to browser.pocket.enabled;false
which is still there (good), but it means I can't tell if you did it! ;-)

I applaud disabling of the geolocation feature in webRTC,
What about disabling the other .peerconnection. config entries?
(filter [media.p] works )
I am unsure what exactly they do, if they leak or are necessary for function.

I don't know much about 'hello', wouldn't use it myself. Gone now, thanks.

Twilight zone Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

My review and your reply seem to have disappeared here.
I wonder why.

Thankyou for the advice re "location guard", but I am also concerned about possible obfuscated code in FF and the tendency to hide 'features' which would be useful for malware and general snooping, putting everyone at risk.
Like for instance the high and unannounced value of config

I must go fetch my tin hat again.

Addon List Dumper (restartless)

yes, very good, but Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

I am grateful for this add-on. It works well, whereas the other extension list dumper doesn't work at all for me, and copying from about:support isn't that convenient.

when I run FF in a shell, at start-up (even before using the extension) I get
console.error: addon-list-dumper:
DEPRECATED: The widget module is deprecated. Please consider using the sdk/ui module instead.
plus a whole load of non-fatal whingeing with traceback (which may be unrelated).

Consider, it would just be neater if that were fixed.

Request (I assume it may not be that easy to implement):
I would like to see the entries contain the actual download URL, eg the "", or at least the proper URL-name which I could use to reload from, as well as the support site where known, rather than a hotch-potch of some firefox/addons/ and some support sites.

That's because the AMO search doesn't always find the addon from the 'name', but then the AMO search is so generally useless that often I have to resort to a websearch anyway.

And date-last-updated as well as date_installed.
And whether it is restartless on not.
(and signed or not)
(and review status)
The name of the add-on developer would also be useful.

But yes, very nice, certainly good-enough. Good work.

poor choice of hot-key; panel does not identify itself clearly Bewertet mit 2 von 5 Sternen

The hot-key chosen by the author interrupts the existing standard hot-key for entering Unicode characters in hex: control+shift+U +four-character-hex-from-number-pad.
(websearch control+shift+U )

When I try to enter a Unicode character this way, instead I get the user-agent pop-up box, which, because it is anonymous, took me some time to track down (I had installed this a while ago & not used it).

First suggestion: please do not hijack existing standard key combinations

Second suggestion: please clearly identify the pop-up, so we know where it's coming from & can remove it if need be, without wasting half an hour tracking it down.

Third suggestion: an icon to invoke it would be better, perhaps with a drop-down choice, rather than a pop-up.

4th: then an /optional/ & /configurable/ hot-key for those that want such a thing.

I suppose one might /guess/ that clicking on a particular browser icon in the panel should change the user-agent.

It would have to be a guess because there's no instruction or help or clarity on the panel.

I understand that one can "enter one of those pre-defined values" for an agent, but in the panel there is no clue what might be acceptable, no drop-down, no Help, no reference to the instructions page.

(And there is no syntax check, if one enters one's own string. Although one could use 'whatismyuseragent com' for that.)

But, it does work.

A useful enhancement would be to have an icon which indicates the current user-agent status.

Vertical Toolbar

Praise & requests/suggestions Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Splendid concept. Well done. Thank you.

I would find Australis (FF29.0+) unusable without it, since I like to see status indicators e.g. Quick Java add-on, as well as unhidden access points.

It also frees up space on the Nav Bar, which otherwise would be intensively cluttered.

Regret I could not access (maybe just temporarily today 20 May 014); could you put a valid support site in the description, please?

What concerns me is that I now have a highly customised FF-Chrome-panel + VerticalToolbar configuration, and I see no obvious way of saving, restoring or reverting that, should disaster strike.

I like it that most buttons fit in a narrow VerticalBar without making it wider. Regrettably, the [QJ]v Quick-Java drop-down is an exception - but I can put errant wide icons in the Nav bar, because of space freed up there.

I found out which buttons caused widening VerticalBar problems by trial and error analysis. It would be useful if wide buttons were somehow highlighted.

It woud also be useful if there was easy access to the FF 'Help' menu (now FF29.0+ hidden away by Mozdevs, when it 'should' be prominent & obvious), and to the Menu bar (also hidden away behind severlal clicks) - in particular the Tools button.

Currently to find MenuBar-Tools, one must right-click on, say, the 'newtab' + symbol or Chromium button, select MenuBar, which then appears top left of screen, and go from there.

A direct access MenuBar drop-down in the VerticalBar would be ideal; even better would be direct access to the Tools drop-down.

Final question: Is this extension Tor-safe?

Praise, thanks, works fine in FF29.0 (and usability gripe 29.0) Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Still works nicely with Awstralis, I'm relieved to say.
One of the essentials.
Much praise and Thank you.

I have put the [JS] button on the nav bar (for emergencies!), and the [QJ] button in the new C̶r̶o̶m̶e̶ FF tweak panel.

That nav bar is going to fill up very quickly with status indicators!! I hope all indicator icons I use there will soon have a 'microscopic' option. (It seems to be a mozilly decision to insist on biggish icons.)

One small usability gripe is that one can only change one option at a time in the [QJ]v drop-down; I change any one setting and FF bounces me out again, so I have to dig my way back down to change the next.
I suspect this too is more a FF usability imposition than anything else (?).

Even more confusing is that if I click the [QJ] itself, it toggles all settings but one never sees the change (because again, FF immediately bounces me out) - I would have to dig down again into FF tweaks if I wanted to check the status, but I guess I trust it by now (probably a bad decision...).

Also, it isn't explicit that right-click on the [QJ] will bring one to the hidden QJ option panel, something one finds by guesswork. For new users it might be advantageous to have an explicit "options" choice in the drop-down. It's moot.

btw, what does "reload on change" mean?
Am I being dense or have I missed some documentation somewhere? (Reload what to what on change of what?)

One further question - when I toggle JS (or J) to 'off', does it actually stop/kill the relevant background processes, or does the setting apply only to new instances?
My preference would be for killing off rogues in the backbround.

what about the future? Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

QuickJava is one of the add-ons I consider essential.

I love to see an immediate indication of plug-in status, rather than having to remember, or guess, or trust to luck.

I love the ease of switching, instead of having to delve into the innards many clicks and delays away.

Unfortunately the #!FLAME*#ing arrogant moz devs have in their infinite false wisdom decided to go the route of dumbing down & removing useful features from Firefox in an effort to really annoy me.

We've already seen that kind of sabotage when they removed the easy JavaScript switch feature, ostensibly to protect users from deeply technical solutions by pointing them at about:config instead - choosing the wrong solution to the wrongly perceived problem. Exasperating.

In the coming Australis perversion of Firefox (which is not all bad, just mostly bad), one of the devs' "helpful" dumb moves is to completely remove the add-on bar. Another has been to ensure that FlashBlock does not work sensibly. (Not to mention what they are doing to tabs.)

Another is only to listen to selected users, it seems, as in "talk to the hand".

For those who've been kept in the dark about Australis, see an enthusatic but less-than-open blurb here:

Read the comments. Someone has to. Find out about it. Try the "nightly" (QJ won't work). Complain loudly! How will QJ cope with this dash for idiocy?

Will QJ be able to cope with it?

Will you be dependent on fall-back addons reconstructing some kind of non-native addon-bar, an extra potential point of failure (given recent history of great addons being rendered unusable from time to time by FF auto upgrades, not good).

I wouldn't see it as being useful to clog up the navigation bar (soon to be the one_&_only everything-to-everyone Swiss Army navigation, search & status bar) , which seems to be the dev favoured solution.

I would be devastated to lose QJ.

One other thought - the indicator/switch icons don't really need to be so large, unless one is looking for an accessibility option.

(Oh, and smaller icons customisation is to be killed off by Australis, too, in an apparent desire to economise on screen space ???? Go figure.)

YouTube Flash to HTML5

Problem - no longer works in FF 25.0.1 (under Linux mint 15)

Nothing plays.

I think it has something to do with insane 'improvements' by current FF devs in the path to Australis & onwards down the drain.
