Environment: Ubuntu 12.09, Firefox: 27.0.1
Thank you to the developer for producing this extension. The main reason I installed it was because I love the Back/Forward mouse gestures that I used to have with FireGestures. Unfortunately, I had to remove FireGestures because it is very buggy these days.
When I compare the Back gesture with FireGestures' equivalent, it is not so user-friendly. When I click the RMB followed by the LMB, the context menu usually appears and blocks the gesture (I never had this issue with FireGestures). More-often-than-not, this causes one of the context menu options to be activated instead. Thus, sadly, for me this function is unusable. I still have the extension installed, and use the other ways it provides to change tabs, but I would really love to use the RMB+LMB gesture again, so hoping for improvements in future! :) Many thanks!!
Update (16/03/14): Sorry, I forgot to include my environment. Now added. Thanks to the developer for your response! Yes, this function works perfectly in FireGestures for my environment.
Environment: Ubuntu 12.09, Firefox: 27.0.1, FireGestures 1.8.3
Firstly, I really loved this extension, and appreciate the hard work. However, over recent months, I believe it has become very buggy.
For several months, firefox would intermittently lose the custom toolbar I'd created. Thankfully I could usually resolve this by restarting firefox. However, every 2 weeks or so, it would totally lose the toolbar, and there was no way to recover it other than to manually recreate it. After having to do this over 10 times, it became extremely annoying.
Yesterday, even recreating the toolbar didn't work - on restart it would be lost, so I was left with no option other than to work out the root cause (firefox without toolbars is useless, imo). After hours of troubleshooting, I eventually isolated the issue to firegestures.
Update (11 Mar 2014): After a few weeks without this extension, the toolbar issue is still resolved.
Update (16 Mar 2014): Please ignore my previous comment about a conflict with SessionManager. The toolbar issue is still resolved, however.
I really like this extension, and am really grateful to the developer for all the hard work! I have a few suggestions, if you don't mind? ;)
* an easy way, with a single click of the mouse, to show/hide the bar (sometimes I am not near the keyboard, so can't use the shortcut)
* in addition to the information when downloading, it would be good to have "remaining to download" and "total" filesize, possibly in the format remaining/total ie. "175 / 320 MB"
Other than these minor points, it's perfect! Thank you again! :)
PS. For users on Ubuntu/Linux 12.04, the steps to configure Download Status Bar with the Clam antivirus scanner are here:
I really liked the look of this extension when I installed it today, but when I restarted, FF lost my custom toolbar. I recreated it and restarted FF, but it disappeared again. I removed this extension and repeated this process, and the toolbar persisted. I installed the extension, and the toolbar disappeared.
Hence, I'm afraid to conclude I think it is causing these issues. I will update this review in the next couple of weeks if I discover that the toolbar disappears again without the extension installed.
Good effort tho! I will increase my rating to 5 if it transpires that the bug exists elsewhere.
I am using Firefox 25 on Ubuntu 12.04.
I discovered today that CTRL+F no longer activates the Find bar, and even Edit > Find does not work.
I loved this extension. I am certainly aware how much work it takes to write and maintain a project like this, and so I understand why the author has decided to discontinue it after all this time.
I would just like to say that it was a quality piece of software that was a joy to use. Thank you to the author for all the hard work that has been put into it. I am sincerely grateful!
This has absolutely no effect on Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity, except that it adds a "Minimize to Tray" menu item under the "File" menu and hides all indications that the program is running.
This ought to be stated in the description.
I've not used this but, just to let you know, this functionality comes with Tab Mix Plus (TMP), which a lot of people have already. It's enabled from TMP Options > Menu > Main Context Menu > Show in Main Context Menu | Open Links in New Tabs.
While this is a great extension, it has some annoyances. Firstly, even though I opted for the toolbar to display "Text and Icons", it always reverts to showing Icons.
Secondly, I love the "Display window size in title" feature, but I have no idea how to disable it. Selecting the option again is not successful, and there is actually no indicator to show whether it's currently meant to be on or off.
If anyone is able to resolve these issues for me, I will raise my rating to 5 stars. Thanks in advance.
I LOVE ABMH2. Thank you for all the good work that went into making such a cool extension! Lately, using the old and new versions, when I click the star in the address bar, the address is automatically bookmarked to my Unsorted Bookmarks folder rather than presenting a dialog to allow me to choose. I have tried changing the ABMH2 preferences and also tried replacing version 17 with version 23, but the situation is not resolved. As it as only just started happening, I imagine that it was caused by a conflict with either another extension, or when I updated to the latest version of firefox (for Ubuntu. I'm sorry but I don't know which versions it change between).Could anyone suggest any common extensions that could be conflicting, or how to determine whether the problem is with ABMH2, please? Many thanksDiese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (17.0.20121128) abgegeben.
I agree with other reviewers that there needs to be an option to disable the shortcut. I would only ever want to explicitly restart my session - the shortcut can lead to a mistake.
Other than this, it's a great extension. I will upgrade my rating to 5 stars if this function is ever added.
Many thanks to the developer.
I agree with the last 3 reviews that DownloadHelper is now causing problems with youtube, whereby errors are generated when posting comments or adding videos to playlists. I also agree that there needs to be an easy way to disable this extension (ie by clicking a button on the taskbar) so that it's easy to troubleshoot when these issues begin. I've had to completely disable DownloadHelper because of this now, which I would preferred not to have done, as re-enabling it to determine whether the issue is fixed is now not a simple button-click. Other than this, tho, amazing work. I will upgrade my rating to 5 once the bug has been fixed. Many thanks!Diese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (4.9.14) abgegeben.
This really is one of my most-used extensions, and helps me to communicate with my foreign friends by filling in for the gaps I have in my comprehension of those languages. Sometimes, however, its translation is not totally accurate and further tweaking of some phrases is required. With the online Google Translate tool, it is possible to click on a phrase or word to see a list of alternative translations. As it may not be possible to add this functionality, it would be really helpful if gTranslate provided a button that opens a new window (or tab in my case, as I use TabMixPlus) to online Google Tranlate with the to/from languages already set up, and the original text already filled in. That said, even without the this functionality, I can't give this tool anything less than 5 stars! Thank you, to the developer, for all your hard work!
Could someone explain why the toolbar icon for this extension is 7 icons wide?
This extension became extremely useful to me after firefox started leaving processes running on my machine (ubuntu 12.04) after I closed it, and would not shut down fully until I killed them. I knew that it started happening during the last couple of months, but had no clue which extension I had installed or updated just before it first happened.
I looked up and down the list for extensions that were updated during the last month, then two months, then three months, and disabled a month's-worth of extensions at a time, until firefox started working again. While I am grateful for this, it would be nice to have the ability to sort the list in date order, so I could just read from the top. Is there any chance you could add this?
BUG: Also, I have found a bug. Whenever I open the addons dialog now, its window expands to the full length of my workspaces rather than the current workspace. This means that, every time, I have to painstakingly resize the window, as there is no easy way of doing this.
Even so, it's still a cool extension. For the life of me, I can't understand why this functionality (showing the dates) is not included by default with firefox. Thank you so much for filling the gap!
The functionality that this extension provides would really enhance firefox, but unfortunately it stops working after the second reboot of firefox. This happened with a similar extension I found that had similar functionality, but I am not sure whether this is a coincidence, or a common obstacle for extension devs when dealing with tab groups.
Everything works as expected initially, although I did see some "anonymous" groups. To resolve this, I just moved the tabs to groups that were properly named. After I restarted firefox twice, the new tab group icon with the dropdown menu turned back to the standard one without the menu, and then there was no way to access it.
Excellent work so far, but a pity that it doesn't work.
I am afraid that I regretfully have to amend my previous glowing review, because after a couple of reboots the extension no longer works. The "select next tab group" button does not activate when clicked, and the "Group your tabs" button is not populated unless you switch to each tab group in turn in the normal way.
It's such a shame - I thought this going to be an essential addon.
By the way, I am on Ubuntu 12.04, Firefox 18.0.2.
This extension solves a problem that I've had for so long, but never thought to look for a solution until now. I've only tested it for a couple of minutes, but it seems to work perfectly, and I am surprised at how responsive it is. Thank you very much for your hard work!
Ugh, I wrote a review yesterday, but it is not showing up. :/
To summarise, the extension is great on Ubuntu 12.04 and Firefox 16.0.2, but the scissors icon cannot be moved from the default "Navigation" toolbar to a custom toolbar. Once this is fixed, I will increase my rating from 4 to 5.
Thank you to the developer for all the obvious hard work!
While I do like this extension, and am grateful for your hard work, it currently has a conflict with custom toolbars, when they are created via toolbar Customize > Add New Toolbar. Any toolbar created is completely "forgotten" when the browser is restarted. Disabling the Hackbar extension resolves the issue.
My environment is Ubuntu 11.10 + Firefox 10.0.2.
Thanks for all you have done to create this extension, and the best of luck with it. :)
I'm afraid this extension does not work since the upgrade to 10.0.2 on Ubuntu 11.10.
However, it was VERY useful previous to that, so thank you for all your hard work on it.
