As the title says, it was great for reclaiming some screen real-estate. But due to an unrelated issue where I had to reinstall my profile, it no longer wants to work on the latest Pale Moon variant of Firefox.
Hope this gets resolved soon.
I'll say it again: Vital! I also use the add-on called TextAreaCache as a backup. I never worry about losing any typing any more (usually due to hitting the 'back' button on either of my mice).
The only thing I don't understand is why they have THIS version here, and a newer one on their site.. ??
I've only started playing around with themes for the first time today, but so far this is one of the best themes!
There are only a few problems, mainly in some extension configurations, that are hard or impossible to read due to black text on black background. One of them I've notice is 'Lastpass' - for instance, the group box doesn't show - although you are able to use the selector and see what group you are selecting, it wont show in the box unless you highlight the text. Another is 'Session Manager' - for instance when you go to manually save a session, the area where you select which tabs will be included doesn't show the checkmarks next to the tabs to be included - unless you select a tab and then the checkmark will flash white. Fortunately these aren't major problems as I don't really use the session save feature to de-select tabs when saving, and I am able to work around the group box of Lastpass. There may very well be other problems like this with other extension configuration pages, and I remember having a couple others but can't remember which ones. However, this theme is SOOOO nice that it doesn't dissuade me from using it. Hopefully these issue will be ironed out in the future.
There is also another bonus which doesn't directly involve this theme, but... I have a problem between 2 extensions that is in a delicate balance to have one of them work properly. The problem is between the 'CoolPreviews' and 'Tree Style Tab' extensions.. Under certain circumstances, the CP ext. will cause TST to display the url in the tab instead of the title if I don't want to load all tabs upon startup (which I don't) - it can be a delicate balance as I say. However, when that problem crops up, all I would have to do to correct it would be to disable CoolPreviews. I do notice however that TST is listed as being preliminary reviewed by Mozilla, and I believe TST IS in beta - but it's too nice now that I've finally started to get used to it. (Seriously, *scrolling* to look for a tab!! I don't know how I put up with that now! ;-)
Well -- I've been noticing that many other themes will upset this delicate balance and TST is too nice on my widescreen monitors(2 laptops) to not use. This Blue Fox theme is one of the few that doesn't upset this balance! It also doesn't force all tabs to load upon startup like I've noticed some themes will tend to do (The others may just change the setting, but if they do that then I likely wont want them anyways if they're that pushy about it.).
So, all in all, I give this 4 stars. I would have given 5 if it weren't for the issue of some dialog boxes being hard or impossible to read - as well as some toolbar/add-on bar buttons. Hopefully these issues will be ironed out though and I will eventually be able to give it 5 stars.
A VERY NICE THEME INDEED!
As the title says - it would be nice to have an option to restrict the user-agent string to either certain tabs, or certain sites... Rather than having the string be used across all tabs and all sites until otherwise set to a different string.
It would also be nice if there were more preset strings. The option to 'download list of user agents' seems to do nothing at all.
UPDATE: I found a list of user-agent string to download from previous comments below. However, it would be nice if a settable number of recently used stings could stay on top.. Making it so it only sticks on certain tabs or sites is a MUST TO-DO thing, IMO. It's nice though, once one finds a list of strings to use.
To reiterate, here is the list: http://techpatterns.com/forums/about304.html
The extension seems great so far, however it wont play well with the Searchbar Autosizer extension. After the entered text clears after the time specified in Second Search, the size won't colllapse as per the Autosizer until I click on the empty search field.
Plus by combining, it would take the need for SA away. The main functions in SA that I find usefull is 'revert to default search engine' - which I'm pretty sure SS already does.. And 'shrink searchbar to button if empty' - and of course, just the expansion of size when entering and shrinking of the size without returning to button. The autosizing also makes this extension incompatible with using the option to show the popup 'above the searchbar', because the text from this extension wont move along with the increasing size of the searchbar.
This would be an almost perfect add-on with that functionality.
There is also a 'SearchWP' extension that might be nice to add to this too. I haven't had time to play around with this one too much yet (I have it disabled right now) - but it allows highlighting of the search terms within the page by clicking on the search term.
All in all, this Second Search extension shows promise at becoming the grand-daddy of all search extensions! Or the mother of all search extensions, if you will.. =)
I just installed it, but I'm really liking it so far.
I uninstalled 'tab preview' because this does so much more - and no need to select 'tab preview' option in TabMixPlus, which wasn't working for me anyways..
However, I think it would be more useful with a couple suggestions:
1) Have an option to disable previewing when using the scroll wheel on the tab bar.. Make it so, after you start scrolling, that you have to move the mouse off the tab bar and back onto a tab to get a preview again.
2) Have an option to allow mouse-button 'back' and 'forward' buttons events/clicks to pass though to the preview window.
Otherwise nice add-on! I may end up finding it very useful to quickly check up on something... Time will tell how useful it will be.
