Facebook Misbehaving Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
Starting this past Monday, whenever I open Firefox v39.0, the Facebook entry in X-Notifier v3.5.9 is grayed out. If I click on that gray link, it throws me to the FB log-in page. If I then provide my user name and password, I am able to access Facebook.
If I then log out of Facebook, return to X-Notifier's menu, and click the "Check Now" option, lo and behold: the Facebook link becomes active again. Indeed, if I click on the newly active link, I am thrown into Facebook directly without the need to manually enter my user ID or password again. The Facebook link can be made to work, but only with a lot of rigmarole.
Something is obviously not quite right. Any chance of a new Facebook script to fix whatever quirk Facebook seems to have introduced to their sign-in process? Thanks in advance.
Foiled by Firefox 38, Part Deux Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
Eureka! After much research and experimentation, I found that using about:config to set the value of "browser.preferences.InContent" to false displays Options in the old floating window and allows them to work in Aeon Clouds. False was apparently the default before Firefox v38, but FF 38 changes the default value to true and thus opens Options in a fixed tab that does not presently work in Aeon Clouds.
The new default value of true (tab) in FF 38 does work with Firefox's default theme and several other themes, but not Aeon Clouds. For those of us willing to accept Options in the old floating window (false), Aeon Clouds can be made to work in Firefox 38. Alas, users who want Options in a tab (true) must either switch to a new theme to stay in FF 38 or else roll back to FF 37 in order to keep Aeon Clouds.
Because of this shortcoming, I award Aeon Clouds four stars for now. If and when Aeon Clouds is modified to also allow Options to function in a tab (true), then it will get the five-star rating it so richly deserves.
Foiled by Firefox 38 Bewertet mit 3 von 5 Sternen
I, too, encountered the failed Options menu with Aeon Clouds under Firefox v38. Default Firefox theme works fine. However, I rolled back to v37 just to preserve Aeon Clouds because I love it so much. Were it not for this glitch, I would award six stars!
Hope Aeon Clouds can be modified to work with versions of Firefox beyond v37. Would also love to know from "curmudgeon" or anyone else the details of exactly how to tweak about:config to restore old style (floating window) "Options" feature.
Another reason to despise Mozilla's 6-week rapid release program Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen
Concur with Sachin's post of 27 February 2015: Flash Video Downloader v7.1.2 operating in Firefox v36.0 no longer downloads videos. Rolled back to version 7.1.1 with same bad results. This is a terrific add-on when it works, but Flash Video Downloader in any version does not seem to play nicely with the latest Firefox v36.
Firefox's continual updates always seem to have adverse affects on add-ons by making it too hard for developers to keep up with changes. Fortunately, for anyone looking for alternatives, the add-on called DownloadHelper does still work in FF36.
It's Baaack! Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
I had been using Aeon Clouds exclusively since January 2010 (v3.6) and quickly grew to love its calm, classy appearance. I was crushed when Firefox 29 was released and Aeon Clouds no longer displayed the tabs properly with Classic Theme Restorer installed and the "Tabs not on top" option selected. Much to my delight, the tabs have miraculously re-appeared with Aeon Clouds v7.2. Many thanks to the developer!
The only lingering deficiency: I would like to see the blue cloud pattern applied to the Add-on Bar at the bottom, but that's just nitpicking. So glad to have the basics back!
Comcast Restored Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen
Comcast script 2014-05-16 fixed whatever ailed Comcast. Comcast notifications once again work perfectly. Comcast upsets the apple cart Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
I can access my Comcast e-mail by logging on directly to the Comcast site. I can download Comcast mail using my e-mail clients. However, beginning 12 May 2014, I can no longer access Comcast using X-notifier: not on Firefox, SeaMonkey, or Google Chrome.
Comcast has apparently done something that interferes with X-notifier. Probably time for an update to Comcast script 2013-05-13.
Cannot help but marvel at how the developer is able to monitor so many different software sites. Keep up the good work.

About Face for Facebook Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
X-Notifier (v3.3.12) remains my single most essential Firefox add-on. Unfortunately, Facebook must have recently changed something to upset the apple cart. Facebook script 2013-10-28 no longer notifies users like it has for so long.
Hovering the mouse over the X-notifier button shows "Facebook (account-name): not checked" in red ink. Right-clicking the X-notifier button shows all Facebook accounts as grayed-out listings. Fortunately, clicking on those account names does successfully open each account, so X-notifier still has substantial value. However, the add-on no longer notifies users when unread Facebook postings are available.
Facebook has apparently done something that requires another tweak to the Facebook script. I can only shake my head in amazement and admiration at how the developer is able to keep abreast of so many different applications and the programming techniques required to access them. Hope this Facebook problem can be solved.
Varnished Chrome Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
I am thrilled that version 3.3.8 did indeed fix the Gmail 2-step verification in Firefox. Ironically, however, v3.3.8 still does not open Gmail in Google's own Chrome web browser. Sure would like to see that fixed, too.Diese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (220.127.116.11-signed) abgegeben. Dieser Benutzer hat auch weitere Bewertungen dieses Add-ons.
A Truly Joyful Yahoo! Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen
Yippee kay yay! Version 3.3.3 fixes all of the Yahoo problems. X-notifier now successfully scans Yahoo both on initial startup and with a manual scan (menu option "Check Now"). And everything works even for those of us who chose to stick with basic Yahoo instead of the new "full-featured" Yahoo. Can't ask for much more. Well done!Diese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (18.104.22.168-signed) abgegeben. Dieser Benutzer hat auch weitere Bewertungen dieses Add-ons.
Not-So-Joyful Yahoo! Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
I read CPrebble's review of 16 June with great interest because I, too, am having problems with Yahoo, although of a slightly different nature. When I open Firefox, all the initial automatic scans in X-notifier work fine, except Yahoo's. Yahoo accounts remain grayed out, and no e-mail counts appear.
While a minor annoyance, it is not a fatal flaw. If I then run a manual check by clicking the "Check Now" menu entry, lo and behold: the Yahoo accounts are no longer grayed out, and the counts for unread mail suddenly appear.
So for new users who depend on Yahoo, don't give up on X-notifier if initial startup fails. Just run a manual scan; you should then be good to go.
For the benefit of RpD:
As I have stated before, this is a marvelous add-on. It must be a monumental chore to keep current with all the changes made by the numerous service providers, and I have nothing but admiration for the developer of X-notifier.
However, the first three or four times I had problems in the distant past, I did use the forum. Alas: I never had a single reply to any of my posts. In my experience, the forum simply has not produced results.
Since then, I have instead chosen to post reviews so that new users contemplating this add-on might become aware of the types of problems they might encounter so that they can make an informed decision. Sorry if that offends your delicate sensibilities.
Timing is Critical Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen
This is one of my three or four most valuable add-ons, but I would like to see at least one modification. I monitor close to 100 software web sites; when I run a manual scan of all 100 sites, it is very annoying to then get a notification just minutes later announcing updates of those same sites based on the autoscan timer. Is there some way to reset the autoscan clock after *manual* scans and not just autoscans?
An example to clarify: if autoscan is set to run, say, at 7:00 but I run a manual scan 15 minutes earlier at 6:45, I don't really need to see another autoscan notification again at 7:00. If I have set autoscan to check every 6 hours, I don't need to see results again until 12:45 (6:45 manual scan + 6 hours). No big deal with just one site, but multiply that by 100 and the number of extraneous notifications becomes almost overwhelming. Resetting the timer based on the latest auto scan *or* the latest manual scan would be very helpful.
Another possibility: allow users to specify the precise time of the next autorun with the specified time interval to take effect after that.
My Heart is A-Twitter Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen
This has become my single most valuable add-on, especially because it works in both Firefox and Google Chrome. Alas: out of the blue, beginning this afternoon, it no longer checks Twitter. Clicking on the Twitter link opens Twitter successfully, but the link is grayed out, and the count of unread Twitter messages no longer appears. Same problem in both Firefox and Chrome. Perhaps it's time for an update to the Twitter script?
Amended 12 June 2013: Bingo! The new Twitter script dated 12 June 2013 fixed the problem. Many thanks for your prompt response.
Outlived Its Usefulness Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen
Editing the install.rdf file to increase the version number does help, but even then, this add-on works only minimally. Users must right-click on the icon, select the capture option they want (complete page/visible page/selected area/entire window), and then click "Copy to clipboard." After that, users must paste the image to an image processor. Only then can the image be saved to disk.
Way too cumbersome and much work. This add-on has not been updated in over a year and has clearly outlived its usefulness in light of recent changes to Firefox. Time to move on to other screen capture add-ons like Screengrab (fix version) and/or FireShot. Abduction! used to be viable candidate, but it, too, now behaves badly with FF18.
Eureka! Bewertet mit 3 von 5 Sternen
Many thanks to Michael for devising the fix but most of all thanks to anonymous reviewer .. whose post on 22 January provided details of the fix. I implemented the repair that he outlined and voilà! It worked like a charm in 3.0.17. Once again, thanks to both Michael and anonymous. We can only hope that the developer of Abduction will incorporate these relatively simple fixes and publish them in the next release ASAP.
And after all that time and effort, Abduction! is not radically better than other screen capture add-ons available like Screengrab (fix version) and/or FireShot. Screen Capture Elite used to be a viable candidate, but it, too, behaves badly with FF18.
Kudos! Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen
Love the new version 0.96.10c: not only does it successfully save images to the hard drive in FF18, but it strikes a perfect balance by discontinuing the obnoxious pop-up window of the previous version while still providing a far less intrusive confirmation message that the file was indeed saved. Nicely done.Diese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (0.96.10c.1-signed) abgegeben.
Nibbling at the Edges Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen
All well and good to tweak the ads, but that does not address the primary shortcoming: even version 3.0.17 still does *not* capture images in FF18.0.1. I continue to see the same obnoxious error message "Sorry, the image is too large, Firefox can not save it." As a result, this add-on remains useless. I cannot begin to understand why Mozilla continues to label this as a featured add-on.Diese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (22.214.171.124-signed) abgegeben. Why featured? Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen
Don't know why this is listed by Mozilla as a featured add-on. Using FF 18 on a Windows platform, I encounter the same problem reported by several other users: "Sorry, the image is too large, Firefox can not save it." even on the tiniest box. With no functioning save-to-disk capability and without any copy-to-clipboard option, this add-on becomes virtually useless.Diese Bewertung wurde für eine vorherige Version des Add-ons (126.96.36.199-signed) abgegeben.
Comcast Script Bewertet mit 3 von 5 Sternen
Version 3.0.4 renders the Comcast script inoperable. Had to roll back to 3.0.3.
