DoNotTrackMe

Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

I occaisonally use the add on to help transition myself back to using Firefox Sync. I recently enabled it, and found it deleted ALL my saved passwords in Firefox. I will not be using Blur again.

Xmarks Sync

History syncing has been removed. Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

My sole use for Xmarks these days was to keep my history syncronised between Firefox (pre-57) and Pale Moon, with Pale Moon incompatible with FF Sync. Now History syncing has been removed from Xmarks, I no longer have any use for the service... And will have to find a different method to sync between these browsers.

Live Stream Notifier

Doesn't appear to work. Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Great idea, however no version appears to work at all (dev edition).

Ghostery

Keep getting reviews deleted. Reporting to AMO. Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

This is either the 3rd or 4th review, I can't remember now, of VALID reasons why I no longer use Ghostery. You can also add to those reasons that you are trusting your privacy and security with a company that seems content to silence critical reviews in order to keep its high rating on AMO. I believe this is incredibly relevant for an add-on that claims to make the internet more transparent... If they cannot even be transparent themselves!

It was after my first or second review was posted that I refused to use Ghostery anymore. I was hoping they would reimplement the features of the old version (advanced cookie blocking, tracker blocking) but this is clearly a route they do not wish to go down anymore. How about, rather than deleting this review, you take the time to respond to my criticisms? (I have re-posted this review to my personal GitHub and Pastebin, just in case it gets taken down AGAIN).

360 Internet Protection

Brilliant, simple, protection Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

I had always used Bitdefender as my primary anti-virus, however upon hearing 360 included both Bitdefender and Avira engines, I decided I would give it a try.

Ignore the bad advertising given by them apparently "cheating" in antivirus tests. At the worst it was a dumb move rather than fraudulent; but a simple switch after install turns on one and/or the other.

Once it is installed, install this add-on and get instant protection for the sites you visit, including a "shopping mode" which turns on automatically when you visit shopping sites. This actually acts more like a hardened/verbose version of the antivirus, automatically notifying you of ANYTHING suspicious while the mode is switched on. But besides that, it stays largely hidden, with just a tick on the add-on icon if the website is deemed safe. No bloat like McCaffee or other similar programs.

Note that it doesn't do anything on its own; you need one of their (free) antivirus programs for it to connect to . I'd recommend the 360 Total Security Essentials version, just because I don't feel there's anything in the full version that is good enough to choose over other software. Once that improves I might change my mind ;)

HTTPS Everywhere

Waiting on a WebExtension version Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

This is the first add-on I install on any browser for how important it is. My only gripe is there not being a WebExtension version, although I get why and I'm entirely on add-on developers side over Mozilla's so not going to mark it down just for that. Alternatively, could you include the functionality into Privacy Badger? But then I would be worried about feature creep rather than keeping them separate! You can't win ha.

Privacy Badger

Great, simple, out of the box protection from trackers and cookies Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Add-on, for me, largely replaces the old Ghostery add-on (which no longer blocks cookies or apparently much at all really). The traffic light system is insanely simple to understand, and makes it quick and easy to fine-tune your experience. It would be great if you could combine a filterlist with it so you have instant, out of the box protection without having to install an ad-blocker. It would also be great if it provided some indicator on why it considers a url to be tracking you- a hit count for each attempted access, for example, or even just make the title text for each site a darker font (and vice versa).

Also, I know they have done it for a while now, but I respect EFF for finally producing their Add-Ons on the official Firefox repository... Although they probably didn't have a choice with it impossible to install unsigned add ons now on anything but the Developer version of the browser. I feel this is what EFF should have done all along, to counter clones appearing instead, along with maybe a warning about Firefox's policies. Although I'm in support of the reasons EFF declined to upload add-ons like https Everywhere for such a long time, for me the ultimate aim of getting the protection offered to as many users as possible probably should have been the more important focus?

Adguard Werbeblocker

Great adblocking, especially with AdGuard Desktop Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I'll be honest, when I first came across Adguard it was whilst reviewing the Yandex browser, and it appeared to be the same as the other dozen or so Adblock "copies" out there, along with being from an unknown apparently Russian company. However in the last few years they have come into their own... the Desktop version of this is, quite simply, brilliant and stops ads across the OS (not just Firefox). It almost makes the extension redundant, although it can be a helpful button for the add-on bar instead of taking up space in the corner of each web page. It gives you a ton of control by adding your own filter lists as you would expect, and if you're really that bothered about it phoning home to Mother Russia just use a hosts list as well (which will also give you tighter security and blocking from malware and ads). My only gripe would be I'm still waiting on a working version for the new WebExtension API!

Selenium IDE

Another brave casualty in Mozilla's war against add-on developers Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

The biggest irony/danger is that, with most Firefox add-on developers leaving the scene for good, most of its add-ons will eventually be from developers of Chrome add-ons. Then Google really has won.

New Tab King

Website has shut down Bewertet mit 2 von 5 Sternen

To the person calling this fake: I was a user of this a number of years ago, and can tell you it's most certainly not fake. The problem is, after the add on installs, it opens their site which has now shut down. So links to a typical inactive url advertiser.

The Add-on itself does still actually work, although a number of the features are broken, and it now looks a lot uglier than it used to. I really hope the developer updates it, as I liked some of the features of it.

DoNotTrackMe

Looks like Abine have found their niche Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

The "mask card" feature is the feature that really sets this apart. Not just for privacy, but for protecting your card details. The "mask e-mail" feature which is just as easy to use is also more useful than I thought it would be. It ticks the boxes for password management and tracker blocking as well, although the UI does feel a bit unresponsive and ugly compared to something like Lastpass.

What I'd like to see is ad blocking included. I know they state why it's not a feature, but I'd rather have it all in one package than install seperate add ons. Maybe they could take a leaf out of the "STANDS Fair Ad Blocker" and introduce some kind of ad reducer, along with splitting proceeds between the site and charity? It would be especially useful seeing as that add-on isn't yet available on Firefox!

It's nice to see something as positive as this, after all the negative press since they formed a company from the TACO add on. I presume these cookies are still set?

Adblock Plus

Most of the hate towards towards ABP is unfair Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

People are quick to judge ulterior motives of the "acceptable ads program". I'm sure there is a profit motive to a certain extent; however, in order to work in a business-oriented market, they needed to do it as some kind of acreditation model. I'd rather see sites sign up to something like this than to just fail by following business norms and end up with no ad revenue. I agree with what their survey found in that ultimately I do want to support sites that use more acceptable ads. I've even used the inobtrusive ads list in uBlock and other adblockers when I've tried them out. Again, I think it is something they should be proud of taking on, and maybe they could even promote the list for use in other blockers more.

What I've always disagreed with is having it automatically enabled; I feel it should have been an option after installing, in the same way as blocking tracking and everything else. It is always a little sentence at the end about allowing intrusive ads; they could have at least made it bold. They can certainly claim they inform users, but it all feels very sneaky, like the software publishers that bundle adware but claim it was easy enough to not click install for that. I'm not wanting to put the team on par with rogue software developers, but it is certainly something that begins to damage trust.

I think these guys took an important step, though. I'd maybe like to see two seperate add ons; a normal "adblocker" then an ad reducer, with the inobtrusive ads option and some kind of way to reduce/replace ads, like the Stands Ad Blocker. I feel like there were a lot of ways they could have taken this positive first step for better ads better, while keeping trust with their users. But ultimately they're not the bad guys; "inobtrusive ads" I've come across have kept to their name.

Thank you for this add on. Along with CookieSafe, I have found possible Cookie overkill and have an absolutely fine-tuned control of the cookies that are on my computer. Which is how it should be.

Beef Taco (Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out)

Xmarks Sync

Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

Xmarks has rapidly become more important for me after increasing annoyances with Firefox Sync. And it does the sync job very well. My only concerns are to do with password storage, as it does not use the firefox password manager and also an interface to see xmarks passwords does not seem to exist. Hopefully this will be integrated with Lastpass, or this functionality will be transferred to or taken over by Lastpass?

LastPass

Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

There's not a lot I can say about this other than it is perfect. Since I have started using it I have learnt to take my password security much more seriously.

The only faults are in it's other software packages; at the moment it doesn't seem worth me being a paid subscriber as the android application is very poor. However this hasn't affected the score of how well this works with Firefox.

Firefox Sync for Firefox 3.5/3.6

Bewertet mit 1 von 5 Sternen

I majorly dislike how I can no longer be trusted to easily create my own sync key. I was using a very strong passphrase, but because of some troubles upgrading I needed to reset the sync key, and was pretty annoyed it was randomly generated without the option to create my own. I now need to either use an e-mail service or keep this sync key written down to synchronise with pcs at parents house and at work. Which strikes me as even less secure than just letting me create my own!! (actually I'm using LastPass's secure notes function to provide this, but the fact I need to rely on another add on to keep this key secure is very, very poor design).

My needs are more and more being met with a combination of LastPass, Xmarks and more recently Siphon; which is a shame as I would prefer to keep my data secured with a non-corporate company than a for-profit company. Please do something to change this; this add on is going in the same direction as the rest of the Firefox project and becoming too bloated. Hence the reason many users are migrating to Chrome!
