As many others already wrote: I used to love and cherish Xmarks (then Foxmarks). It worked great and was the only cross-browsers bookmarks sync solution available. It was just perfect.
Today it is a waste of time and a pain to use: constantly and randomly duplicating bookmarks, every-day popups saying that it needs to download the whole bookmarks set because of some glitch... Not a single update since quite some time, the web site GUI keeps refreshing when you try to sort and manage your bookmarks, limited sort and filter capabilities. It feels like everyone left the building while leaving the server on but nobody left to watch over it.
The worst is that I used to pay for this service and would gladly keep paying if it just worked.
Sadly, working it does not. I'm leaving for Bookmark OS as I haven't found any other similar sync solutions - cross-browsers is the key. At least I won't waste any more time on this.
So long Xmarks, it has been nice whilst it lasted.
Impossible to sync anymore, it duplicates the bookmarks or gives error messages. Once it was smooth and easy..
It has been so perfect in past many years, why it became so rubbish right now with Web Extension?
ever since firefox changed stuff back around 10-17 this wont sync correctly , all i get on "sync" now is folders titled imported from firefox toolbar has same "imported from firefox" lot of times i get error need to download from snapshot from server or some such error.. so Chrome has the same stuff now
I'm a paying customer and Xmarks used to be great... Then LastPass sold out to LogMeIn. And now LogMeIn "merged" with Citrix and I guess Xmarks is just the kid they want to ignore. Over time the product has gotten buggier and appears to be less supported.
Tech Support has been worthless my latest issue. It's like they are farming it out to Microsoft. Each reply took a day for them to get back to me. The first technician was fine actually, asking me for logs, etc. And then another technician took over basically asked me all the same information again. He even advised me to "simply" do "x", which was the whole reason I had submitted the ticket in the first place. Because "x" was broken. I literally had to ask him if he had read the previous conversation in the ticket.
It's too bad, because I really liked being able to sync bookmarks between platforms and browsers and it was worth paying for... Now not so much.
I've been a longtime user of Xmarks, but only recently started using Firefox again frequently/primarily. Unfortunately, Xmarks is currently broken for Firefox. It doesn't sync well, the popup sign-in box doesn't even work well with LastPass (!!!), and worst of all for me, every time I synced it between browser it erased all my keywords, which I used extensively.
It doesn't seem that, beyond the minimum necessary, LastPass is committed to this product.
Terrible tool and I am a Premium user who is cancelling. The pop-ups don't work properly. The add-on is constantly signing out. There are sync errors on almost every sync. Duplicates are becoming a nightmare to manage. Deleted links/folders keep reappearing like extras out of the Walking Dead. This is before discussing lack of even basic functionality such as Sort by A-Z, dead link analysis (a must when you have hundreds of bookmarks going back years).
Terible add-on. Avoid like the proverbial plague.
I think this is currently the worst experience in the last years. Such a promising tool to (simply) sync bookmarks between browsers. But after multiple duplications, deletions or plainly NOT syncing I'm obligated to say: do it yourselves...
They have an restore deleted items option: I guess to fix their bugs, just like the remve empty folders and duplicate bookmarks.
Contrary to reports from other users, This add-on DOES work in Firefox Quantum v59.0.1 64-bit. I just used it moments ago to download over 1,000 bookmarks I've amassed over several years of technical research to a new Firefox installation.
Things for other users to try:
1) Create a clean Firefox profile using this command "firefox.exe -P" (no quotes) from Start→Run.
2) Using the new Firefox profile, manually login to https://my.xmarks.com/ using your XMarks credentials. Ensure that your XMarks username and password actually work and that you can see and access your bookmarks stored up in the XMarks cloud. Let Firefox save your username and password, assuming they work correctly. Also, ensure that Firefox does not block any portion of the XMarks web site, due to tracking (if you want to sync, you need to agree to be tracked).
3) Install the most recent version of the Xmarks add-on into this new Firefox profile and ensure that it is enabled and set to auto-update.
4) Sync your bookmarks to the new Firefox profile, starting with the server.
NOTE: If you had other bookmarks in your old Firefox profile, you can always log into that old profile, export those bookmarks as HTML, and then import them to your new, clean Firefox profile.
Despite bugs and weirdness its still working for me.
But if you trace their updates, since late 2014 they've updated much less - just when the negative comments mounted.
Difficult to understand why they don't just make it commercial. Since there's no alternative and the interface is really good, I would cerainly pay if it was reliable. XMarks is really important to me! Seems a pity - large user base untapped.
NOT working anymore! This extension used to work very well before Firefox Quantum.
Won't show up in Firefox even after removing and reinstalling addon
I forgot my password and xmarks anoys me with it's constant asking for it.
Since Firefox renewed and changed the extensions API, The Xmarks is chaged to unuseless extension.
Don1t remember my account data, can't upload anything.
I am very sorry because I like it earlier than the Lastpass was born.
LastPass doesn't care anymore
This add-on does not work with Firefox anymore - keeps losing all my bookmarks. Getting very annoyed!! Please fix.
Doesn't work any longer on Firefox 59. Buggy
This is one of the must-have extensions across all your browsers. Keeps all your bookmarks in sync between browsers and devices. Couldn't live without it!
This used to be a good add-on, but it has gotten buggy. I have a support ticket from the beginning of December 2017. It's still not resolved. I purchased Xmarks Premium. Although the support team responded to my initial request for support, they have failed to provide a solution. I won't be renewing my subscription until it gets fixed. As it is now, I'm looking for a replacement.
It's compatible with all the most popular browsers and works flawlessly. Obviously the very same registrations and awareness are necessary for setup and handling as any other service. Problems raising on every accounts and applications If they have been setup loathly and if users are careless about how to use them in the correct way. For example that isn't a surprise you lost your bookmarks If you forgot to set the sync to the appropriate direction and/or turn off auto sync. Too many options plus ignorance inflicts issues certainly. Regarding to possible faulty coding, I use Xmarks for more than four years now and I never had any problem with the application itself, no crash, no inadequate pop-up, etc.
I've been using this for many years with mostly good outcomes though it has been troublesome on and off. But 2018 has been one disaster after another. First it started crashing and asking for credentials all the time. Then it would constantly fail to sync. And etc., one problem after another. But now is the worst. All my folders of bookmarks are suddenly empty. 1000's of categorized bookmarks are GONE. Guess what, now xmarks is gone from all my devices (or soon will be!).
