I really like this add-on. It has saved me a few times from going to a bad site. Thanks!

Even more funny .
In my Previous review I said something about someone saying something about a yahoo toolbar.
I just re read. Said it changes your search engine .
UMM Wonder if he/she changed it on accident and doesn't know how to go back to his/her default search engine, so blame WOT??
Sorry but some people should learn how to use a computer and learn more about their add-ons before writing something negative about them.

AWESOME ADD-ON Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

Read some of the other reviews , even someone saying it installs a yahoo toolbar or something LOL.
I have NO complaints at all,I even checked out a site with everything red just to "test the waters".
My anti-virus popped up and said a back door trojan horse was blocked.
I absolutely love this add-on and trust the ratings. Obviously everyone isn't going to give the same rating for the the same sites visited. So some of the negative comments made are laughable.
I've told other people about this add-on and they use it now too.
Thank you for this great add-on :)

Scammers Scam Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

If I were a the owner of a scummy site I'd write a poor review here! Then you might not download this awesome tool! OK, so some sites might not get the fair end of the stick, but that's the exception, not the rule! Better is better.

The problem with Web Of Trust is it can't be trusted. It marked a perfectly legitimate and responsible British appliance spares site (used by my son-in-law) with a red dot, and when I checked, the red dot was meant for a Taiwanese site: a scammer, spammer, PayPal phisher, and child-protection violator, with a completely different gobbledegook URL. This is worse than unfair. A false sense of security is one thing, but mis-labelling honest vendors is unpardonable.
Uninstall it and look at your user.prefs. You'll find 4 pages of weboftrust entries left behind.

Re: It?

We don't rate websites, reputations are based on user ratings. Obviously mistakes can sometimes happen, especially if the site isn't very popular, but that's where you come in. If you notice an incorrect rating, rate the site yourself or report the rating on our website. Of course, it could be that other people simply disagree with you, it happens.

While the preferences that were left behind are harmless, you can always delete them if you prefer.

This is one of the most indispensable add-ons I've ever downloaded and I wouldn't even think of uninstalling it. It's saved me from getting into trouble many times. Recommended to absolutely anyone.

while Googling to find ratings for registration clean-up programs I came across a commentary that some ratings are scams run by lousy programs. The author recommended WOT as indispensable and offered a link. Next thing I know a program I just downloaded a week ago got an automatic WOT warning!
I had been suspicious but never imagined all the gory details. I think this may prove to be one of the best things I ever found.

WOT is the embodiment of democracy on web security. Which doesn't work. Period.

Given that whether something is secure is a matter of fact (and not of opinion), community based reports will always be unreliable in comparison to company based blacklists (antivirus advisers and the like). I used to use WOT. A long time ago. But I never found much use for it. So I uninstalled it.

NoScript, AdBlock Plus and a decent antivirus/firewall is all that you need to surf the web, all of it, safely and worry free. Seriously. My Firefox can withstand even the most virus-ridden of shock sites without compromising my PC's security. And I don't use WOT.

Re: Security

Actually, our system isn't as much democratic as it is meritocratic, but still, would you care to explain why doesn't democracy work?

If you only care about protecting against viruses or browser exploits, the security software you mentioned is probably all you need. However, technology cannot protect you against all types of threats. For example, do any of these programs warn you about websites that take your money but don't deliver on their promises?

This type of information may not be useful to you, but there are plenty of people who come across websites they don't know every day and find experiences from other users to be invaluable. Even if you can always tell whether a site can be trusted, how about the other members of your family?

Not so sure it works Bewertet mit 3 von 5 Sternen

I see the value, but increasingly I notice that it's ratings are wrong. It gave a bad rating to one site that was completely safe (doesn't use javascript, flash, or save cookies, even), because it's _parent_ domain was unsafe. And now it's giving low ratings to buy.com, a site I've used safely for years.

And that is making me question the value of this approach.

Re: Not so sure it works

The owner of the parent domain also controls (or at least is responsible for) all the subdomains, so unless we have enough ratings for a specific subdomain, it inherits the parent domain's reputation.

Also, buy.com has an excellent reputation, which means the add-on should only warn you if you rate the site poorly yourself:

Once I downloaded this, there was no turning back! I use it all the time to warm me of dangerous sites. You can even add to the info by telling it that this is a dangerous site. I love it. WOT ROCKS!!

WOT is great! Bewertet mit 5 von 5 Sternen

I have told so many people they must have it and emailed the link (at least 20) and so far, everyone who has downloaded it to IE or Firefox has LOVED it. If you are like me and like to just go everywhere and chk sites out...You must have WOT. It will warn you or give the "green light" to any link you might click... I have had attacks now about 4-5 times and the 1st thing that gets turned off is WOT so watch and make sure it's on your toolbar always... I would like to know what exactly needs to be done to lock it thereor to simply put it back without re-downloading it when that happens...if you could tell me. Thanks!

I don't surf without it Bewertet mit 4 von 5 Sternen

I used to have McAfee SiteAdvisor, but had to uninstall it when I switched my anti-virus to Kaspersky.

I have this add-on set to show me a warning screen if I'm about to enter a known dangerous site, and the warnings next to search results are very helpful, as it helps narrow down which sites I should visit.

There are a few drawbacks with the rating system, i.e. all blogspot.com sites are given a warning because some blogspot users might have abused the service.

Still I would rather be slightly inconvenienced with having to click one extra time to enter some sites than to happen on a site with spyware/adware/trojans/etc.

Re: Warnings

Blogspot.com seems to have a good reputation, so its new unrated subdomains shouldn't cause a warning, at least not in the recommended default configuration.
